The HONEST TRUTH About BUDGET Takomo’s & EXPENSIVE Irons!?

  1. I have used a set of Takomo 101 irons for 2 years now and they have been fantastic. Was able to order them to my specifications and used the money saved for some lessons and have seen my handicap go down from 12.9 to 7.9.

  2. These days, the DTC brands are so good. If someone still buys premium brands, it's about bag appeal.

  3. I don’t think you can compare, if you are a bag snob you get the titliest and if thats what you want then why not, as far as value for money it’s a no brainer

  4. For me, the problem with dtc and off the shelf is that is it is mostly 4-pw. I only want 7-sw. if you get a fitting you can order the clubs you want. It may be just me, but I use hybrids and woods below the 7 iron.

  5. Takomo gets a lot of attention on YouTube. There are many direct to consumer companies with products at both high and low price points. If I am considering Titleist, I probably am not comparing to Takomo. The reverse is also probably true.

  6. Got fitted into '23 T150 irons, absolutely love them. Found a second hand set of 301CB/MB with the same shaft as my 150s, tried 'em on a sim and was pleasantly surprised. Bought them for $300. I love both sets, and find myself playing the 301s more as the lofts work a little better for me. I will probably get another set of 301s the next time around. A proper fitting is what leads to better results on the course. Titleist has way more options for people as far as shafts, and very good service. Also, probably the best fitting experience offered. Takomo is a bit of a gamble. Their fitting tool is decent, but not the same as having a real fitting. The 301s work for me, and only because I happened upon a used set I got to test them before buying, and lucky they had the same shaft as my 150s. I'm guessing the previous owner of my 301s didn't have a real fitting, decided they didn't work.

  7. My eyes must be slipping looked like on the first hole takomo was closer with both shots.🤔

  8. You don't seem to try Mizuno why ? . I have had my T-ziods for 20yrs and I don't take it too serious more fun and at 66 a 14 handicap, started playing in 1995 taught both daughters and son-in-laws and yes I have changed my driver recently to Callaway Rogue but that's it. If I was to buy new set it would be Takomo or Mizuno.

  9. With that type of price difference, I need to see tighter tolerance out of the loft and lie angles, better gapping in between clubs, and tighter dispersion circles.

That is what I expect out of a “premium club”

  10. I play Tour Edge. My Titleist and PXG buddies can't beat me. Its not the fiddle, it's the fiddler.

  11. Dtc definitely the way to go looking at. The Sub 70 TAIII v2 CB irons and the Tokome 301 CB. Have you reviewed the sub 70 irons and what did you think of them

  12. My biggest hate on Takomo is that it has been shilled by so many YouTubers, that I simply don't want to give them a penny.

That, and the fact a buddy of mine has them in his bag and they look absolutely trashed despite being only 1-2 years old. I've seen vintage clubs in better shape.

  13. My choice for 2026 in irons is the Srixon ZXIR HL with KBS MAX graphite shafts and JumboMax grips. Senior flex for certain and I am going with Eleven Tortoise 3 – 5 iron for my forgiving long irons. Total for the package is around $1600 US.

  14. I play the T150 23 and I have been looking at DTC brands but I don’t like a lot of offset or a long blade length, and when you need a custom club because I’m 6’6” it’s hard to take a chance on something you can’t try, I do know some will sell a demo but how many 7 irons does one person need

  15. My son has been playing Takomo for 2 years now, he has the irons and the wedges while playing 200+ rounds a year. His clubs have held up very well with no groove issues or club issues, and the wedges have been outstanding. Takomo may be the best clubs for the money all around and now that they have a driver that is showing incredible numbers, they may be the best option for a complete bag set across the board for everyone.

  16. You can't ignore the used club market. It's totally possible to buy nearly as good Titleist for much cheaper or even buy used Tacomo. Used club market is the game changer and changes the whole dynamic of buying clubs.

  17. 3 years ago, I decided that based on reviews the 301CB/MB combo was going to be good for me. I was playing a set of similar heads (Bridgestone MBs) and I had tried and liked the KBS tour x-stiff shafts in other MBs (Mizuno, this time). So, 3 years after, what's the deal? Well, the 301CB/MB irons are still in my bag, I'm still very happy with them. They do show some wear and tear (particularly the 9i and the 4i that I seem to be playing more often than the rest… ) but that's to be expected as I play about 250 times a year. I clearly wouldn't buy a set of big brand comparable clubs, the price is ridiculous and the difference in performance, if there's any, might be in thousands of strokes gained.
So yeah, 3 years playing these Takomo and I think I'll buy their driver soon. And will replace my irons when they're really done for by…. The same set of 301s!!!

  18. What can't speak can't lie James and that was the perfect comparison…. to be honest I think you're paying snob money for the bug brands but hey we're all allowed to play whatever we want…. I've been talking to a couple of tour players and they both said that the reason they play the clubs they do is because they get paid to, they both said they couldn't justify spending £500-£600 on a driver and the hundreds on irons, just shows that for the most part it's the idiot that's swinging it lol….. liked the comparison though… 🌟🤩🥳🎊

  19. The target audience for these irons aren't look for workability… We're just hoping for a middle strike….

  20. For a price that's TWICE as much as the Takomo 301CB, I expect the Titleist to produce TWICE as well… there's no excuse otherwise.

  21. But how many people buy brand new clubs? My used 2024 T100's cost £475. My brothers used Takomo's (combo set) cost £415…

  22. Gaming Takomo 201's. Yeah, they are 1/2 club longer than the Hogan PTX Pros I also game. The distance gains from the 201's are too much to give up, but there's no doubt the PTX Pros feel better. The 201's feel really good on flushed shots too, but those same shots with the PTX Pros are butter, just 1/2 a club shorter. As for spending twice for name brand performance, it's not worth it imo.

  23. Since you rarely buy new irons, I'd rather go to a store and get fit for the best clubs for my swing rather than buy discount clubs that likely won't fit you. Knowing the clubs are correct and properly fit is big for the mental game.

I highly doubt Takomo has R&D plus build quality/accuracy of Titleist. They probably don't even check swing weight, lie/loft of the clubs for consistency.

Plus, you can't change grips, shaft, swing weight, etc from Takomo. Odds of their stock one fitting everyone using them is very unlikely

  24. Top brands are taking the piss now with there prices. Golf is becoming an elitist sport again. Golf will suffer for this in the end. I’m liking the new cheaper brands that are coming out now. I’m playing Callaway CB 2024, £1300 for 8 irons!!!. Never again.

  25. I play 3 rounds a week with multiple different players (none of my mates play golf so it's always random.)
Fact is, noone cares what you play. To be honest, I've had more people mention to Haitch irons that I play than the Ping Driver or Taylormade wedges.
