The second season of TGL continues Friday with the second match of the campaign, with Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf looking for the franchise’s first-ever TGL victory.
They’ll try to take down Los Angeles Golf Club, which was the top team in the regular season last year, going 4-0 before the playoffs, and they’ll have to do it with a fill-in golfer. Michael Thorbjornsen will take his first swings at the SoFi Center for Boston, while LAGC will trot out a solid lineup but one that does not include the reigning Tour Championship winner in Tommy Fleetwood.
Here’s everything else to know before Boston takes on Los Angeles.
Boston Common Golf: Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Michael Thorbjornsen (sitting: Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama) vs. Los Angeles Golf Club: Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala (sitting: Tommy Fleetwood)
• Thorbjornsen had five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 2025, including a season-best runner-up at the Corales Puntacana Championship — he also led the Tour in both total driving and greens in regulation — and was announced as an alternate for Boston with Scott and Matsuyama not able to play in the team’s debut.
• In the first season’s matchup between the two teams, LAGC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in Triples before winning 6-2.
• LAGC ended the regular season with a 4-0-1 and was the first squad to clinch a playoff berth last year after leading the regular season with total points won (32). Individually, LAGC was also the strongest as it finished first in Singles Holes Won with 13.
• Boston had a fairly solid statistical campaign, leading TGL in driving distance and third in greens in regulation, however, it couldn’t win a match. The closest it got was an overtime loss versus Jupiter Links in its first TGL match of the season.
• A handful of new holes will be utilized for the match and Stinger will return after causing havoc in the first match between New York and Atlanta — with both Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele failing to hit their tee shot below the 50-foot-high rock formation.
Boston Common (0-0-0) vs. Los Angeles Golf Club (0-0-0)
Match begins: 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+
All matches will be broadcast exclusively in Canada on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
All matches will be played at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with the capacity for 1,500 fans in seating that’s wrapped around the playing area — creating a greenside-like experience.
Within a match there will be two sessions played in two different formats
• Triples – 9 holes: Three players per team competing in an alternate-shot format.
• Singles – 6 holes: One-on-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes during the session.
• Overtime: If the match is tied after 15 holes, the teams will play a best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin competition to decide the winner. This will be similar to penalty kicks in soccer.
• The hole location and orientation of the green will remain unchanged from the final/15th hole of the match.
• The shot distance will be between 25-50 yds and decided pre-match by match official. All players will play from the same spot. The ball must finish on the putting surface to be eligible.
For each match, teams can be awarded up to 2 points toward their regular-season total based on the following:
• Win in regulation = 2 points
• Win in overtime = 2 points
• Loss in overtime = 1 point
• Loss in regulation = 0 points
