Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred at 1:00 a.m. Friday (Dec. 26, 2025) on Factory Road on Tangier Island.
A 2016 EZ-GO Golf Cart was heading westbound on Factory Road when it went off of the left side of the road, struck a sign, and ended up in the marsh on the side of the road.
The driver of the vehicle, Gordon W. Wheatley, 83, of Tangier Island, Va., died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
