WCW should NEVER have changed the branding to the cat’s ass logo and stage design. Even though they were losing steam here, there was absolutely no need for a rebrand. Everybody recognized the WCW logo and Nitro show and respected its identity.
As soon as the cat’s ass logo became a thing, it looked like amateur hour.
The new Nitro theme music sucked as well and just felt like a poor man’s version of the Raw intro.
HH calls it "the WCW" just like the Hitman.

God I miss this WCW Nitro set…..i unfortunately never got to see WCW live but I saw WWF twice during attitude era and once in 2024 before the price gouging started and it was during the MITB matches and Jacob Fatu debuted I live in Chicago so WCW always went to the United Center….Allstate Arena is 10 mins from my house

This is Giant's last match in WCW before he left to WWE to be the Big Show.
I was 8, knew wrestling was fake and still liked the storylines but Hogan wearing red and black signified nothing really mattering in WCW anymore. The emphasis on hardcore wrestling didn't help. I liked hardcore wrestling in WWF and ECW but it didn't fit WCW. Loved WCW for the cruiserweights and in ring stuff but them doing hardcore felt very "how do you do follow kids?"
Rey Mysterio, Jr. kept his LWO shirt until this very day.
Wcw nitro and smackdown were the greatest shows ever produced on earth, and thats the bottom line cuz i said so lol
Early 1999 WCW Nitro is like the reverse of WWF RAW in late 1996 with Stone Cold and Bret Hart, where the promos and events were gold to watch but the production value was still old. Here the production value is at it's best regarding what 1999 can provide, alongside the crowd numbers and the talent roster, but storyline wise there is nothing for anyone of value to do since Hogan was screwing over everyone just to be on top. Goldberg momentum killed. Bret Hart momentum killed. Nash as a heel again as part of the nWo. Hall is gonna have debatably his worst active year in the company. Vince Russo books himself into the show after being hired by lying about creating Steve Austin, The horrible change in opening theme and intro happens, Then Double G, Double O, Double N shows up to end any visual appeal in the show. Very expensive filler with fantastic talent who was buried to hell one way or another through 1998. The Giant and Chris Jericho saved themselves by jumping ship, while rejecting actual good money offers from WCW, and did their best work in their careers in the WWFE.
1999 is the year they squander Sid as well after Paul Heyman brought him to ECW and made him a monster again. Hogan in red and black is a warning of how it was the beginning of the end.
