Tiger Woods confession: I am ALWAYS doing something with the ball.
Witness a masterclass in shot-shaping as Tiger Woods details his internal dialogue before every wedge shot. The revelation comes when he admits to never just hitting a neutral ball; instead, the decision is always between executing a fade or a draw, even adjusting face angle and swing path based on external factors like wind. The contrast in approach with fellow major winner Collin Morikawa on greenside finesse is genuinely eye-opening for anyone serious about their short game. This snippet comes from a fascinating equipment clinic where golf’s elite discuss their foundational techniques.

I'm curious, do pro golfers practice individual courses? Like what if someone with top 10 skill and ability said okay I'm going to take a year off of the tour, maybe just playing small tournaments here and there to keep me sharp, but other than that all I'm doing to do this year is master the 4 courses necessary to win the grand slam. I'm going know where I want every shot to land on every single hole and how to make it land there and I'm going to learn how the ball moves from everywhere on the green of every hole and how I need to put from anywhere to put it in the hole or very close to it for very long puts. I don't know much about golf but I feel as if that is probably the best and definitely the most under utilized approach to putting to the best numbers possible and winning all the biggest tournaments. I guess pros don't want to do it because the goal is to win the tour and you accomplish that by entering almost every major tournament and several others just like everyone else. My argument to that is that one year off is a small sacrifice in the overall picture of a career and it wouldn't be a year off because you could still play in all four biggest tournaments of the year. Also, say you did only enter 8 tournaments a year with a focus on the big 4 we talked about while other guys enter an average of 25 with some doing as much as 40….how would you feel looking back and being able to say you dominated on the 4 biggest, most difficult, and most prestigious tournaments every year for 20 years? You'd be looked like a one of a kind prodigy and I did the math too, no sponsors only tournament winnings, if you had won the top four tournaments in 2025 you would have earned 15 million dollars, more than all but the top 3 players in the world. Throw in the FedEx Cup as your 5th event you practice for and your winnings for from 15 to 25 million and put you just behind the number 1 player in the world who spent the entire year traveling the globe entering every big tournament. Oh top of that who do you think would have the biggest sponsorship deals, the guy who entered 32 events and won 9, I've or two but events and 7 smaller ones with less competition, or the phenom that left his front door 5 times and smoked all the best guys in the world 4 of those 5 times? Honestly I think I've come to on a cheat code that at the very minimum older players should be looking into…,.. right??? I know I'm not crazy lol.
Who takes note of the wind on a 20ft chip, totally unnecessary 😅
