SoFi Center preps for second season of TGL
TGL, the golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy preps for new season at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
TGL is back for Season 2, and like it was when it made its debut, the high-tech SoFi Center expects to be the golf league’s biggest star.
That’s not just because league co-founder Tiger Woods will miss at least the start of the 2026 season as he recovers from back surgery. The indoor golf stadium in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida proved to be a great host in the hybrid golf league’s inaugural season, from its gigantic simulator screen to its morphing green to the excitable crowds filling its seats.
This year, the SoFi Center got a mini-makeover, letting more fans get closer to the action. New hole designs will bring a different look and element to the play, and those in attendance will be able to better hear the banter from Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa. And of course, The Hammer will be back.
Here’s what to know about the TGL golf arena, including how to watch the season-opening match on TV and streaming:
What is TGL golf?
The tech-infused indoor golf league was founded by golf stars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, as well as Mike McCarley, CEO of TMRW Sports and former president of NBC Sports. TGL, officially the TMRW Golf League, runs a 15-match season of six teams comprising 24 PGA Tour golfers from late December through March.
Each match pits two three-man teams against each other over 15 holes. Players tee off into a giant simulator screen on one of 31 layouts that include three different real surfaces. When the ball reached about 50 yards from the pin, play transitions to the GreenZone, an adjustable surface with more than 600 actuators under the green that change the slope and layout depending on the hole. There are also real sand traps filled with the same sand found at Augusta National, home of the Masters.
Matches are split into nine “triples” holes, where each player takes part, and six “singles” holes of 1-on-1 golf. Each hole is worth one point — unless “The Hammer” is thrown to raise the hole’s value by one — and the team with the most points at the end wins the match. The TGL uses a points system similar to hockey and soccer to determine which four teams qualify for the playoffs.
Where is SoFi Center?
The SoFi Center lives on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, about 70 miles north of Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. The arena sits off RCA Boulevard south of the Burt Reynolds Student Center.
What’s new at SoFi Center for TGL Season 2?Bigger green: The GreenZone grew from 3,800 square feet to 5,270 square feet — just about the average PGA Tour green size — and nearly doubled the hole locations from seven to 12. To accommodate the space, one of the bunkers was removed with the other two getting larger and flatter.New holes: There are now 31 holes available to play, including one “Signature Hole” for each team based on their namesake city. The holes were designed by the likes of Gil Hanse, Beau Welling and Jack Nicklaus. One of the new holes is named “Stinger” and encourages players to hit Tiger Woods’ signature shot off the tee.Enhanced fan experience: Lower-bowl seating will expand by about 50 seats, bringing more fans closer to the action. Those in attendance will be given earbuds to listen to commentary from the ESPN booth, SiriusXM or either team. Fans can also bring their own headphones and connect to the audio via Bluetooth. There will also be new hospitality sections throughout the stadium, as well as multiple chances to meet with players. How much did SoFi Center cost to build?
The indoor golf center that houses TGL matches cost an estimated $50 million to build. It was TMRW Sports’ second attempt at a golf facility after its initial attempt — an inflatable dome off PGA Boulevard — was destroyed by powerful storms in 2023. As part of the lease, Palm Beach State College, where the SoFi Center is housed, collects $440,000 per year from TMRW Sports through 2028. That rate increases 2% in 2029 and again in 2034 until the 20-year lease expires.
How big is SoFi Center? How many people attend TGL matches?
The SoFi Center is nearly 250,000 square feet. Its simulator screen is 64 by 53 feet, about the size of an IMAX screen, and the transforming green sits on a turntable 41 yards wide. The full playing area is about the size of a football field: 97 yards long by 50 yards wide.
The golf arena seats a maximum capacity of 1,500 fans.
