Love your Channel David! The information is pertinent and works. I agree with you wholeheartedly about liking what you are looking at. What you see will instil confidence. I work at a golf course as a junior greenkeeper/maintenance mechanic and am going to school to get my green keeping program at university at age 53 soon, and I play a lot with the pros and the majority of them (played D1 golf) and STILL USE older clubs. It is a fact. I used to use 13 clubs for the longest time and some of my kit is a couple generations older but the shafts and the look works for me… well said. I agree on the AVX ball as well. In the colder months I will play it. the 24 version was the best to date and when it gets hot I will use the standard Pro V1. Shot my best score this year (75) with a Pro V1. Really like this video and your channel a lot. I watch a lot of the videos on repeat as I love golf and want to get better. Hopefully work on my swing when my tendonitis gets better (Played 167 rounds this year and practiced 4-5 days a week) As a result of your videos I have increased my GIR this year (went from 32% to 47%) and learned most importantly to control my feelings on the course. I still have blow up rounds though and need to work on that. I tell all my friends about your unique channel and appreciate it greatly. Thank you for your content and style (more mental and working with the swing you have) I wish you and yours a fantastic holiday season and look forward to the content in 2026. Many Thanks. Dan
Great! I have been wondering about your clubs for a while. Excellent. I use the Red Tiger also, so affordable too. Great video, cheers. Happy Holidays Sir!
Have come back to golf after a 20 year gap and my clubs were around 12 years old then – have dusted them off and have felt no need to change them other than I’ve added a 25deg hybrid and dropped my 2&3 irons. 1-3 woods are Cleveland Quadpro, Tiltleist DCI Black, Cleveland Tour Action wedges and a Ping Zing putter all new in early 1990s. Not yet playing to old level but making steady progress. At one point I thought I needed new clubs but more confident again to keep my old ones after watching this.
Takeaway from the video: play the clubs you like, that works for you, and makes you feel comfortable. Whether they’re old or new, makes no difference, so long as they work the way you intend. Cheers.
Like you i have some really old clubs in my bag,A titleist 913 d2 driver,i love the feel and the sound of it,the newer drivers sound a bit dead i love the ping of the old titanium clubs,i also have an original odyssey white hot 2 ball blade putter which i got new in something like 2006 i think,i will never change it because i feel there is no need.I have had freinds make comments on my old clubs saying i should get new ones and when i ask them why all they say is because they are old and new clubs have better tech inside.I love it though when i outdrive them or hole more putts i just make a little sly comment like,"this old tech still works dosn't it" its great when they have no answer to it,it makes me chuckle.Great video as always.
“Get in the bag what works for you” some golfers are always chasing the latest tech rather than what is best for their game. Will also check the grips on my clubs before I play next
Good video and good points made. I would say the equipment starts to make a difference when you get to 70, maybe for some 60. When you see that Fred Couple's (he is 66) iron set ends at the 7 iron and he goes to hybrids and high lofted fairways you need to start asking yourself why on earth you still have a 5 iron? As you say, loft is crucial.
Very cool David. Agree on using whatever club works for you no matter how old, just keep it in shape. I'm fairly new to golf (3-years) so my equipment is pretty current. Use a TM Max2 driver (love it) and 3H (Cleveland) and just recently bought a Callaway Paradym 7W. I had used M2 irons yet have moved now to hybrid irons (idrive 5-9h) and have become more consistent on shots -dropped 5-strokes from HC. Use a 54 wedge and PW for approach shots with an Odyssey putter-love it. Like having less clubs (10 total) in my bag and feel I can cover any distances with them. I use a glove, however, may not until needed. Have not decided on a favorite golf ball yet, typically will purchase used……although like Vice/Titleist brand. I typically will walk on my home course……and you do get a much better course feel than using a cart. Buying the latest/greatest is just falling for annual marketing speak and a waste of money. Great stuff! 🙂
Agreed. It’s best to use what works for you. I went through a phase when I would get the latest driver year on year, with minimal impact on my actual game and scores.
How long is that TM R510. It doesn't look like a modern 45.5 to 46 inch club, and given how old it is, it shouldn't be. Drivers were being made to 44.5 or 45 inches in those days, (I know. I reshafted a number when I was working in a shop), and even for a pro level player, that's easier to control. So I'm curious.
I have a callaway warbird like you, still in bag.
Great to see you are NOT advising your students to buy the latest and newest every year like so many golf coaches these days. Unless there is a massive improvement from change.
Love that old Warbird! Love the loft, which gets the ball up to carry. Love the sole, which you can hit off almost anything. I also suspect the length is a little less than most 3 woods now, probably more akin to a modern 5 wood. Just makes it more manageable.
You obviously don't subscribe to the 'groove wear' theory and Titleist saying you have to replace your wedges after 70 rounds! Good on you. Makes for each wedge shot being ridiculously expensive otherwise.
When I graduated law school in 2002, my father bought me a custom fitted 2-PW set of Titleist DCI 762 irons. I've been playing them ever since. Been told I should modernize to something more forgiving, but I'm not about to drop the cash on something I don't need. Might a more forgiving set lower my score? Perhaps. But at the end of the day, it's the person swinging the clubs that's the problem. So I work on my game, not my equipment. And it's worked. Besides, its my tee shot that makes or breaks my game on any given day. Im never gonna score if im not getting off the tee in good condition. At the end of the day, no one can buy a good golf game.
I also carry my bag. Can't see the point in transporting extra weight, in the form of a push cart, around the course. Carts also limit your ability to negotiate hilly terrain or fences, forcing you to take a longer route sometimes. So I carry.
Finally, I’ve been asking for a WITB
