Every year, PSA has a number of teams who play in the tournament. What started as a company bonding activity is now in memoriam for one of their coworkers and friends who tragically passed away due to a widowmaker heart attack while he was playing in the tournament.
“I know that [Toys for Tots] was really big in his community,” said one of the PSA team members. “He said that he, you know, he both supported and received Toys for Tots when he was a kid. So he got big into it whenever, you know, he was an adult, and donated as much as he could. And he just kept it going, and we’re just trying to keep it going too.”
Mike Conroy and his team said they’ve been playing in the tournament for about five or six years. They said they like to support the cause because all the donations stay close to home, in Suffolk.
Hedrick said this is the tournament he looks forward to the most every year.
“We just love doing this tournament and seeing all the camaraderie from the weekend,” he wrote. “We dress up in team Christmas outfits, ugly sweaters, and play some music and have a great time to give to the kids of Suffolk. I am very grateful for all the folks that come out and support the cause and support this tournament. We would never get anywhere without the citizens of Suffolk.”
