Tommy Fleetwood, the golf star hailing from Southport, has had a remarkable year. The 34-year-old shone at a tense Ryder Cup in New York and clinched two titles in 2025. This season saw Fleetwood secure 12 top-20 finishes on the PGA Tour, along with his eagerly anticipated first victory with the Tour Championship title in August.
This triumph alone earned him an astounding £7.5 million in prize money. Fleetwood’s stellar year also included a win at the DP World India Championship, and he was shortlisted for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award, ultimately losing to world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler. However, Fleetwood’s total prize money for the 2025 season is estimated to be around £17.6million. Let’s delve deeper into the golfing legend’s standout 2025.
Ryder Cup heroics
Fleetwood was the star of this year’s Ryder Cup. The 34-year-old served as a beacon for his team, leading them to victory during a tension-filled weekend in New York.
As the recipient of the Nicklaus-Jacklin Award, an honour given to those who exemplify the spirit of the Ryder Cup, Fleetwood proved that he is one of the game’s finest players at present. Fleetwood concluded the Ryder Cup with an impressive 4–1–0 record, contributing four points to Europe’s campaign.
Partnering with Rory McIlroy, Fleetwood claimed victories against Collin Morikawa and Harris English. Fleetwood and Justin Rose also managed two fourball triumphs, including a commanding three and two win over Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.
Wife targeted
Tommy’s wife, Clare, faced harassment from hecklers during Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph. The abuse occurred whilst Fleetwood was defeating DeChambeau and Ben Griffin at Bethpage Black.

As Fleetwood approached the first tee, one American spectator was heard yelling: “Your wife looks like my grandmother”. This appeared to reference the 23-year age difference between Tommy, 34, and Clare, 57.
The couple, who wed in 2017, have previously discussed public examination of their relationship. They share a son together and raise two children from Clare’s former marriage. Clare also collaborates professionally with Tommy.
Discussing how his wife became his manager after their romance began, Fleetwood told The Times: “We planned to keep our life and our work separate, for me to find another agent.
“But it became more apparent I wasn’t going to find anybody I’d trust as much because, after all, Clare is a very, very, very good agent by trade; it wasn’t like she was my wife just helping the family out.”

Facing criticism
Fleetwood came agonisingly close to victory against Aaron Rai at the Abu Dhabi Championship, with both golfers deadlocked at 25-under before heading into a playoff.
Yet, in the moments leading up to the dramatic conclusion, Fleetwood delayed his arrival at the 18th tee, leaving Rai to wait and drawing sharp words from TV pundit and former European tour professional Andrew Coltart.
“This is what I don’t like,” said Coltart. “To me, they’ve both got to arrive at the tee at the same time. I don’t like that. That gives the person who arrives on the tee last an advantage.”
Fellow commentator David Howell responded: “I know what you mean, the right thing to do would be to arrive together.” Wayne Riley, a former professional golfer and television analyst, then interjected: “Tommy is just slowing it all down, a little gamesmanship, clever. Making him wait, stew.”

Fleetwood finally claimed his maiden PGA Tour victory after seeing off Patrick Cantlay, Russell Henley and Scheffler to triumph at the Tour Championship in August. His triumph brought an end to a sequence of 30 top-five finishes and a series of heartbreaking near-misses in recent campaigns.
Fleetwood ultimately concluded proceedings at 18-under at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Fleetwood had enjoyed a superb week heading into the final round after carding 64, 63 and 67 across the opening 54 holes.
Cantlay, Henley and Scheffler all launched determined challenges against the final round pacesetter, but Fleetwood managed to repel their advances.
A par on the closing hole sealed a memorable weekend in spectacular fashion for Fleetwood as he was crowned the 2025 FedEx Cup champion.

Fleetwood’s triumph at the DP World India Championship in October marked his eighth DP World Tour title and first since January 2024. Following a remarkable 2025, he disclosed after his New Delhi victory that he is now focusing on 2026.
“It [winning a Green Jacket] would be nice,” Fleetwood admitted, alluding to his long-awaited Major victory. “I imagine those things all the time; it’s just about making it a reality. That’s something we’ll look at. When the season finishes, you look at sort of targets and goals for the following season.
“I still have two tournaments to go. I still have things that I want to complete in those two tournaments that I’ll strive for, and then when eventually we get that done with, we’ll look towards 2026 and see what we can do.”
