I have been playing since September and have had 4 x 30 minute lessons so far. My last 2 lessons its started to feel like everything has started to come together and I even managed to break over 100 yards with my 7 iron for the first time! However, I have played on the course and range between those lessons and after my most recent one and it has been abysmal in the sense that I constantly top or chunk my irons and if I manage to actually strike the ball, it is never a clean hit. In this video Im using a 7 iron and it feels like I am chunking a lot but also topping too. I have more lessons scheduled however if I could get some advice to help me to improve between lessons then this would be highly appreciated! For context, I was averaging 52 yards total distance with my 7 iron.
Thanks

From your notes, the main issue seems to be tempo-your swing feels fast and that can cause tops or chunks. Could you slow the takeaway a touch and let the turn and hands work together for a smoother transition into impact. Practice a few half-swings with that feel before you hit balls, so the tempo becomes natural. You’re making progress, and with a steady tempo between lessons you could see cleaner contact again.

WTF is up with your takeaway?

The first guy is Stuart Cartwright. He has transformed my game. Check your grip with his grip playlist.
Too armsy. Envision a bottle and your waist up as the cap. Twist the cap without twisting the bottle until you feel tension – then hit the ball with your hips – not your arms. All one piece forming a “Y” as you come back. They are along for the ride and should not be actively involved.
I’d also recommend doing half swings as you learn this, stopping at the top and then firing your hips. Do not worry about your ball contact since you are learning.
I would highly recommend having the ball on a tee as you learn. It will help in addition to giving you confidence.
