It’s easy to take this game for granted. We play it, we watch it, we consume it at every chance that arises. But when was the last time you took a step back to appreciate everything that it’s given you? Whether it’s friendships, a relaxation vessel, or your life’s North Star, this frustrating, irritating, maddening sport has blessed us all in different ways.

And that brings me to the PNC Championship, golf’s annual family-centric, feel-good weekend. While there were countless great moments for all the tandems playing together at the Ritz-Carlton, the best of all came from Lee Trevino’s post-round interview on Sunday afternoon.

The six-time major champion took a moment to reflect, to appreciate, to express an incredible amount of gratitude for what golf has done for him. If this doesn’t make you want to peg it, I don’t know what would.

“I eat it, I sleep it, I walk it, and I talk it,” Trevino said. “I would live on a driving range today if you put a bed and a tent on a driving range, I would sleep there. And if I got up at midnight, I would put a candle on and hit low wedge shots somewhere. I mean, I love this sport. I love it. I owe it everything that I have.”

The past 12 months have spoiled us. Rory McIlroy’s prophesied triumph at Augusta National, Scottie Scheffler’s continued dominance, and countless storylines all deserving of their own moment in the spotlight.

But Trevino’s monologue seems like the best way to close the book on 2025.
