The world of home golf simulators has exploded in recent years, with more golfers than ever looking to convert garages, spare rooms, and garden studios into personal practice grounds. However, the barrier to entry has often been the complexity of the build – wrestling with steel pipes, ill-fitting canvases, and confusing diagrams. SimSpace aims to change that narrative with its latest range of simulator enclosures.
I recently tested the SimSpace Sim 4 enclosure, and to say it changes the game for DIY installs would be an understatement.

The SimSpace enclosure system is designed around a modular steel pole framework connected by sturdy joints, but the real magic lies in the materials. The enclosure features premium velour siding, which serves a dual purpose: it looks high-end, blocking out ambient light for a better projected image, and it acts as a safety buffer for errant shots.

At the heart of the unit is the ‘Platinum Impact Screen’. This is a 3-layer, fibre-bonded material designed to withstand high ball speeds while minimizing bounce-back and noise. The screen is tensioned using a system of bungee cords and Velcro straps, ensuring a flat surface without the “trampoline effect” that plagues cheaper alternatives.

The range is vast, catering to virtually any space. Sizes range from the compact Sim 1 (2.6m wide) up to the cavernous Sim 6 (4m wide x 3m deep). I tested the Sim 4 option, which measures 4m wide x 2.5m tall and 1.5m deep. This size struck a perfect balance for our testing space, offering a wide immersion area without eating up too much depth in the room.
If you have ever struggled with flat-pack furniture, you will appreciate the engineering here. The speed and simplicity of the construction process are exceptional. Where other enclosures feel like a construction project, this felt more like a simple assembly task.

The instructions provided are as simple and easy to follow as it gets. The poles are clearly identified, and the connectors snap into place with a reassuring solidity. All of the fabric pieces – including the screen, the velour sides, and the roof piece – were cut with laser-like precision.
This was perhaps the most surprising element; often, you expect to have to stretch, strain, or even settle for a bit of sag. With the SimSpace enclosure, everything aligned perfectly, leaving no slack and requiring zero wrestling to fit.

Once built, the user experience was fantastic. The first thing I noticed when hitting shots was the acoustic profile. The screen provided is of outstanding quality and is far quieter than many others I have tried. There is a dull thud rather than a loud crash, which is a massive bonus if you are installing this in a house with family members in adjacent rooms.
The SimSpace enclosure would match perfectly with any of the best portable launch monitors on the market, and we did our testing with the Foresight Sports GC3 launch monitor.
Visually, the screen provided a superb canvas for very clear projection. The image looked crisp, with excellent contrast against the black velour surrounds. The “Platinum” surface is smooth enough to show 4K graphics without the graininess you sometimes get on heavy-duty impact nets, but crucially without compromising any feeling of safety or sturdiness.

By dramatically reducing the headache of installation and providing materials that feel genuinely premium, they have created a product that feels less like a DIY kit and more like a professional studio install.
