The Best Value (FORGIVING) Irons I’ve EVER TESTED!? Haywood SV2 Irons Review | Best Value Forgiving Irons in Golf?
In this video, I test the new Haywood SV2 irons, and they might be the best value forgiving irons I’ve ever hit. These irons are incredibly easy to hit, high launching, and consistent, making them a serious option for golfers who want premium performance without paying big-brand prices.
The Haywood SV2 irons deliver the forgiveness of game-improvement irons while maintaining a clean, players-style look, putting them in direct competition with major brands like Titleist, Callaway, and TaylorMade. They also go head-to-head with popular DTC (direct-to-consumer) brands such as Takomo, offering outstanding performance at a budget-friendly price.
If you’re a mid- to high-handicap golfer, or even a low-handicap player looking for forgiving irons that don’t sacrifice feel, the Haywood SV2 irons deserve serious consideration.
In this review, I cover:
• Forgiveness and consistency
• Feel and sound at impact
• Distance and launch
• How they compare to big-brand irons
• Whether they’re worth the money
If you’re searching for easy-to-hit irons, forgiving irons, or the best value irons in golf, this review will help you decide if the Haywood SV2s belong in your bag.

Golf club review
Just a few short days ago, I reviewed my first ever set of Haywood irons, the players distance iron. I thought they were phenomenal. But people have been saying, “James, please try the brand new SV2 irons from Haywood.” So, these are the helpful irons. These are the what are they classed as, Bob? Game improvement irons. So, today we’re going to take them out here at Wally Park Golf. We’ll see exactly what they’re like. We’re going to put them through the paces for some numbers. And we have a man with us who could help us. Although he doesn’t need game improve irons cuz he’s got his first ever career victory. Chris, how are you? >> Very good. Yourself? I’m all right, thank you. I’m really looking forward to this because whenever I see a set of irons like this, it always makes me think about people who will improve by using them. So, you can get a set of these for upwards of 536 depending on specs and what you want. We have premium shafts in here. We have their own grips, which I think a lot of Dc companies do start to give you more of a a kind of premium grip, but we’ll go with this for now. We’ve got the launch planner behind us, so we’re going to get some numbers from them as we go. But we’re going to play a worse ball scramble today. Just see what we can do over the opening. Yeah. >> My victory was in a greens comp. >> Greensomes. >> Yeah. You can call me the turkey trot champion. I’m hoping Bob’s put a turkey across the bottom there. >> Trotting. >> Yeah, just trottting. Champion 2025. >> Very, very good. Right. Yeah. Up on the board. Gold leaf. That >> is it? Is it? >> Yeah. Is it really? >> Yeah. >> No, it’s not. >> It’s a massive comp. the turkey trot. Massive first impressions, the grip feels a bit thin. Head looks really nice. Sh. It’s a lovely shot first. That felt fantastic. One thing that I do hope for with these, that’s position A by the way. That is nice soft feel because you can buy DTC, you can go and buy secondhand, you can do what you want with your money. I think there has to be an element of a nice feel on any golf club that you are spending money on. You can see there straight away with the 5iron 192 3 and a half th000 spin. Quite low spin. We’re off the winter mats. 230 yard total. So, we are getting pretty decent numbers here with this five iron on the first te. Yeah. Right. Chris, just don’t let us down now with the the worst ball and we’re okay. >> Try not to. >> Turkey trot champion 2025. Oh, it’s delightful. Was that a bit heavy? Yeah, it was off the toe. That be really interested to see what kind of numbers we get with that kind of strike. What’s it saying for us? >> 62 carry. >> It’s spinning at 41 and a total of 177 with that toe strike. Let’s get down there. I imagine >> great struggle there. You can see it’s not even on the groove. So, that’s done well. >> Blooded sand. That’s a Gary Martin strike. >> I wasn’t in the turkey trot there. >> Guys, comment below. Could you see yourself spending money on Haywood irons? It’s the first kind of real time I’ve tried them after the players distance irons and they do a split set as well. So you could potentially have like these in long irons, the smaller ones in the shorter irons. Let’s continue. Right, we um we’re going to use my ball even though mine went further and was a better shot, but it has cannon through a little bit. We’re looking not to be in the bunker. It’s a more difficult shot from up here. 135 playing 127. So I’m going to hit pitching wedge. Let’s see just how well this pitching wedge can. It does look outstanding, doesn’t it? There’s a lot of uh bits and bobs on it, aren’t they? >> It’s very tailor madeesque, isn’t it? Would you say? >> I think so. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Good job. Good price. Just a bit less than Tacomaos. So, about the same. >> I I think once you start totting them up, they’re probably about the same because I’ve been on the website and if you have a look, it says starting from >> Oh, >> yeah. If we kind of go on uh game improvement model, you can see here. So, configure them. >> You can go four iron. >> Oh, four to pitch wes. >> Fog silver. I’ve never heard of fog silver. review. Oh, so in fact they are. And you can go one weak or I’d probably go weak. >> Maybe one flat. >> There’s a lot of a lot of shaft options there, isn’t there? >> Have a shaft off. >> Dynamic golds, regular stiff iron lens. >> There’s some grip. The only grip you can get is there. And to be honest, they you can get different fererals on them >> and they are 536 ship within 3 weeks. Add to cart. Why wouldn’t you at that price? So they have a lot of options for that price. Sounded good again. >> That sounded fantastic. That should be about 20 ft away. >> Yeah, lovely strike. Lovely compression. What we saying, Bob? On here we have, you know what? That’s absolutely what I want it to do. 9 and a half th000 spin, 133 carry. It’s going to stop pretty quick at 136. So far, I’m going to say there. That’s absolutely so good, isn’t it? >> Sounds good. >> I’d say the toe is a little bit big, but I think for the people who want these irons, that’s a positive. Yeah, cuz you’ve eaten out the toe like you showed on the first tea. >> Correct. This one’s out the middle. This is turkey trotesque. This is it. >> Mhm. I’m back. >> Did you get a trophy? >> Trophy. Everything. >> Got my own car parking space as well. That’s what you get for the turkey trot. What? For a commercial van. Oh, that was out of the middle. Have you that good? >> Yeah. It’s all over it. >> It does look a lot more rounded in the uh >> they’re bang next to each other. And this is what I like about a set of irons like this. We can have a worst ball competition and we still have two birdie putts. Can we shoot level par on the opening holes with the worst ball with these Haywood irons? One thing I can’t get my head around is the name. Is it SV2? >> SV2. >> It must stand for something, but I’m not entirely sure what. I’ll do some research and Bobble put it on screen here what it stands for. >> I’m guessing version two. >> All right. All right, turkey truck winner. All right, 140 that time for Chris. Spin a little bit down at 5 and a half. Obviously, there may be a tolerance between this machine as well. We don’t really know. 143 total. >> Interesting. I think they bang next to each other. So, maybe that is the machine >> I get my ball. >> Right. So, from a consistency standpoint, fair to say we’ve hit some decent shots there. We are a little bit long, so that’s uh definitely needs thinking about, but we’ve hit them exactly the same realistically there. I will go. I mean, Chris’s is further away, so we’ll go with Chris’s, but that’s not to say that they’re not two pretty decent shots from the rough in these conditions, right? Interestingly, >> the set of irons are about the same price as our putters. We’re not worse balling the putts, are we? >> No. >> Just go with it. That’s got to go. Pick up. Pick up. >> It was the line as well. >> Where did you start that? Uh about foot right turn. Oh, mine dove and yours >> par on the opening hole. >> Oh, worst ball bogey. Right. So, the longest iron we have is the five. So, we’ll take five iron off this tea. 372 yard hole. Can we get a nice draw around there? Another 200 y would be nice. How consistent is it to the first shot we hit? >> A little bit of a higher flight, but it’s gone arrow straight. The turkey trot champions laughing in the background. What’s happened? Me and Bob don’t know what’s just happened to be honest. Very, very consistent though. We can see 196 carry. Good spin rate that 5581 a 203 total. So really, really happy with that. Very consistent to the first shot that I hit. Let’s see what can manage. I’m thinking though, >> what >> what’s the lofts? >> What are the lofts? >> What is the loft on the fire? What’s >> your pitch? >> I’ll have a look. >> Cuz pitching wedges always sometimes extremely strong. >> Is it controversial? >> Some would say, have you hit that? I’d say well, Bob, let’s get down and have a look at those numbers. So, what would you think the seven loft is, Chris? 31. It’s >> 29.5. So, it’s strong. The 5 iron we’ve just hit 22 and the pitching wedge it’s 43. So, pitch wing I mean pitch should be about 47, shouldn’t it? >> Yeah. And this the five iron is more like an old traditional three iron. Yeah. 21. >> But for what these irons are, obviously you can order them a degree strong or a degree weak. I’d be going a degree weak, I think. But a lot of people are wanting these irons like it’s still flighted. The five iron’s gone nice and high for both of us. So realistically, I don’t think we’re worried too much about the trajectory. We’re just getting nice distance, aren’t we? >> Interesting as well for a game improvement iron, they’re not massive. >> No. And they don’t look hideous behind the ball, do they? >> They’ve not got a huge top edge, but also if you look at the bottom of the club, it’s not a it’s not a huge soul either, is it? >> No. I I’d go as far as saying these are definitely up there with the likes of the Tacoma 101s. And >> potentially even I think tailor made maybe need something else in the market now cuz the P790 won’t be as maybe forgiving to is easy to hit to that as that >> potentially >> maybe need a P7 10090 P7 110 >> it refers to the blade length doesn’t it >> heard here first does it well I tell you what let’s have I’m learning on the job Jimbo >> turkey trot champion oh what have you had >> 193 carry see 51 spin at that at that angle of loft. >> Oh, >> it’s really good, isn’t it? >> Yes. >> So, they should be bang next to each other. >> They should be next to each other. Let’s go and find out. >> Right. Two again. I mean, look how consistent they are. Chris, you’ve nearly had a one to the uh to the temporary green. You could have put that alongside your first ever win >> for your first ever hole in one. Right. >> What do we have in now? So far, I’m going to say the consistency of these is pretty outrageous to be fair. Are you agreed with this? Yeah, I am impressed so far. A lot of people have asked for this. 152 playing 155. I’m going to hit >> downwind. >> Eight or nine? >> Nine. 100%. >> 100%. Right. We take Ooh, you can see we’ve got some nice. >> So, 280.7 g. So, nice to see companies that do offer um exact I don’t know what the word I’m looking for there is, but I think I know what I mean. >> QC, quality control. Ah, I think this might just be short, but we’ll go with it. >> No, it won’t. >> Be believe be the ball. >> Correct. I’ve hit that so good. Oh, it’s just caught the ridge. Just caught the ridge. It was a fantastic strike. 156. You see plenty of spin there. So, it’s carried the exact number I wanted to. It’s just spun all the way back down. Obviously, 158. So, he doesn’t know it’s landed into a ridge and come back. But numbers wise, they’re again spectacular. If Chris can get anything around a 155 carry here and get a similar 8,000 spin, I’m going to say these could be some of the best we’ve tested for a while. That is majestic. I think the wind’s just knocking that out of flight a bit, isn’t it? Oh, Christopher out to flight next to the pin. What we got? 160 carry 8,000 again there. And I think it did just need that little bit extra for it to ride the wind. We’re going to be taking mine because it did take the slope and it’s at the front edge of the green. But Chris just hit a fantastic shot there with these Haywood irons. And I must say I don’t feel like I’m using a set of forgiving beginners irons. I I feel like I’m using a set of nice forged irons. So I’d love to do more with these. Test them against some of the bigger names. Get in the comments below, guys. What would you like to see? Do we see a worse a worse ball series with these? Maybe. Oh, that could be a fantastic I mean it could be very very difficult but maybe swinging well today and maybe we’re um honeymoon period potentially. So very interesting there. I was hoping for a kind of 150 odd carry and any other position on any other green and you’re taking that all day long, aren’t you? Obviously it’s hit the slope. It spun back down the slope. Chris’s has carried as we saw with the launch monitor that little bit further. So I mean is yours harder or mine? Mine’s uphill. Yours is downhill. But I think yours on this occasion. >> Mine’s up the slope, isn’t it? Really interested to see what we could do worse ball with a set of irons like this. You on like some championship courses. >> Yeah. So far so good. Not bad. Slow outside right. Apologize my breath as I’ve gone down there to read this put because that must have sounded absolutely horrendous. Oh yes. Right, we’ve tested the long irons, we’ve tested the mid irons. Let’s test the pitching wedge on the next par three. Can we control it? Can we fight it down? Can we hit a nice shot? And should you be buying these irons for £536? So far, if you’re in the market, it’s a resounding yes, realistically, right? 12. Can we just soar off a bit of a wedge? Chris, this is going to be a tough par. Level par so far on a worse ball, which I think is a very very good good attempt. >> Nice. Oh, fadeing the wind. >> I think that is the wind. >> It’s just clung on. >> I’m going to clean that because you >> Oh, thank you very much. >> Nobody deserves to have that. >> Thank you very much. >> There you go. I do feel like the split set could be a nice option. And the pitching wedge does I think look a little bit big. >> Yeah. >> So if you went into the the other model with that combo >> very rounded as we know, isn’t it? >> Right. Left. >> That’s delightful. Did the wind bring that in now. >> Great shot. >> Wind’s strong. >> I know who’s we’re taking. The wind is strong. >> The wind is like Boxing Day after some Brussels sprouts. Right. We’ll take mine cuz it has just missed a great It’s come on and not gone down the slope which is nice. Not great distance. I’ll not lie to you. There. It wasn’t the best. It was like a glancing blow and the wind’s just massacred it. >> There’s a lot of pitch marks out here this morning. Disappointing. >> Too many pitch marks for my liking. Can I have that wedge, please, Christopher? Thank you. >> You can. I’m going to go. >> So, what we’re looking for here is it not cannoning off too much and a little bit of a soft feel. That actually checked a lot more than I anticipated it to. Didn’t sound that soft. It sounded a bit loud and clicky. But again, I feel like with a set of irons like this, I’ll have another go while Chris is getting those pitch marks. How consistent is it? That was nice. Oh, we did check. >> Yeah. You see, I do feel like when you have a set of irons like this and you work around the greens, you sort of learn how they react and then you react better and then you just know how it comes off, don’t you? Comes off firm, but you get a bit a bit of check and a bit of spin. The worst one’s this nearest one, Chris. boat inside that. Come on then. Go on then. Go on then. Oh, that’s a great attempt. Nice. >> A great attempt. Oh, that’s a bogey, Chris. Guys, that is a bogey. So, one over par through three holes. Worst ball using these Haywood irons. I think they’re fantastic irons for the price. Lots of options in shafts, lots of options in setup. If you’ve enjoyed it, smash the subscribe button. Would you buy these irons for that money, Chris? I think they’re not no-brainer. Really? >> Sold. >> Another one on the on the list. >> Yeah, definitely great option.

Always a good day when Chris is on the channel
hi james another great video mate but where's the orka golf irons review they're rated number 1 and number 3 on mygolfspy fully independent testing ! come on mate it's the review we're all waiting for 👍
best forgiving irons surely have to be srixon zxri
I have been playing Haywood irons and wedges for a few years now. Great feel and sound. Glad to see some love for a Canuck brand eh!
…you should review the Haywood wedges
I visit Vancouver often, so I could actually get a in person fitting.
A worst ball series pitching the most forgiving DTC brands against each other would be awesome!
But we would need to see 9-holes!
Nice clubs better options than Takomo, split set, gap or 4 iron
Hi James, im looking between the PD1s and Haywood CBs. I know Gary Martin has both but dont know if youve any experience with the CBs but id love some comparison betwen those two.
'fantastic' video James…playing Fantastic bingo and got an epic score! 😂 Doth cap to the 🦃 Trotter Maestro, well done sir…Turkey definitely on the table this Xmas!😄👍👍
You NEED to try the MB, the Haywood blade is amazing! I've had them for a couple years now and they are awesome.
its a bit expensive to ship to my country though, a 100USD shipping cost wtihout taxes and duties, compare to Takomo's free shipping with taxes and duties included and Takomo 101 4-PW is 100 USD cheaper than Haywood SV2 4-PW. 200+ USD difference kinda puts a brake for me to consider Haywood
Sorry Chris, the first thing that came to mind when you said turkey Trot champion what trotting to the toilet because you had diarrhea 😂
Unrelated to this subject but there is a new zero torque putter on the market, Lazrus ZT2 putter. They are based in the United States, in Idaho. Would love to see you guys review that putter. Right now that putter is on a Christmas sale for $180.
I think for a real comparison a match between you and Chris. One of you play Takomo and the other plays the Haywood.
James Could you please do a review of Haywood, the fairway woods, and hybrid? Their irons are fantastic. Let's see how good the woods are.
I'd like to see James and Rob (Bobby) play 18 holes. It's past due.
Just got all Haywood bag,; irons, woods, driver, wedges. Love them. I'm a total.convert. They even threw in a towel and a hat with.my irons order! Such nice folks and great service. Love this company. The clubs look even better in person!
Good solid Canadian brand. Thanks for this review.
After a fitting, I bought a set of SV.2s 1 degree weaker last year and I cannot recommend them – they do not give you feedback like a forged club so don't be fooled. Also, the finish goes "off" or tarnishes quite quickly but the lack of sheen is not the reason I don't like them.
Takoma really started a craze in Affordable irons. Which will kill the Bigger brands.
My Mizuno MP4s are some of the best feeling hitting irons I've ever played
Only problem I find is that in these videos we hear "that sounded great…" but all we hear on the camera sound is the dreadful click of a cast club hitting a cheap rock of a golf ball. In person on a range, "that sounded great…" for irons is generally accepted as almost no sound at all other than the dull thud you might get from a set Mizuno forged steel hitting super soft balls. So I'd fear that splashing any kind of cash on a swish looking game improvement DTC set is just going to deliver disappointment. At least Haywood allow you to build up a single club and if you like that take that club out of the full set; that's pretty smart commercials that!
Fantastic iron review video guy’s and I would game them
