In our quest to help you find the best golf ball for your game, we’ve created a tool to help you narrow down your search.

Today’s Golfer is the first publication to build a dedicated golf ball recommendation tool – and it’s powered by the most extensive robot golf ball test we’ve ever conducted.

The tool asks five quick questions to understand what you want from a golf ball, while also factoring in what will suit you based on your swing speed. In less than 60 seconds, you’ll be shown a shortlist of balls that can help you play better golf.

How does it work?

We built the ball recommendation tool using data from our biggest-ever robot golf ball test. For 2025, we tested 62 golf balls across more than 2,200 shots, collecting over 50,000 pieces of data.

That information, combined with expert insight from our golf ball specialist James Hogg, allowed us to identify exactly where each ball excels – and where it doesn’t. From spin and speed to launch and consistency, every key performance area is covered.

Using that information and your answers, the tool delivers a small selection of balls that are genuinely well suited to your game.

Why do we use a robot to test golf balls?

Robot testing is the best way to test how golf balls perform because a robot is capable of doing what no human is – repeating the same swing time and time again.

We set the robot to hit a 40-yard pitch shot, a 7-iron shot at 80mph, and drives at three different swing speeds (78mph, 93mph, and 114mph). Click here to read more about how we tested.

The 2025 robot test saw us put 62 golf balls to the test across three driver speeds, with an iron, and with a wedge, to find the best model for you.

How important is it to use the right golf ball?

Playing the best golf ball for your game can make a huge difference. The golf ball you play can influence distance, spin, flight, feel, control, consistency, and durability. Many golfers spend hundreds on new clubs but overlook the one piece of equipment they use on every single shot – the golf ball.

Whether you’re looking for one of the best value golf balls or a premium tour option, switching to a ball that actually suits your swing can be one of the quickest – and most affordable – ways to improve your scores.
