A popular South Surrey golf course has earned a PGA Tour Americas 2025 Tournament Award after hosting the Fortinet Cup Championship earlier this year.

Morgan Creek Golf Course was honoured with the Best Sales Performance and commended for its outstanding financial performance earlier this week, when the awards were announced in an online ceremony.

Only six tournament awards are handed out, meant to honour excellence across the season’s 16 official events, a PGA Tour Americas release noted.

Morgan Creek Golf Course director of golf operations and Fortinet Cup Championship tournament director Tom Doull said he was pleased to learn of the award.

“It was a lot of work and and our team did a fantastic job, so to get rewarded for that … is really nice. It’s kind of the cherry on top. We felt we did a good job, but it’s good to know that it’s recognized,” Doull said Thursday (Dec. 18).

It was the first tournament Morgan Creek has hosted at the PGA Tour Americas level, he noted, adding that the support of the neighbourhood and surrounding community was amazing.

“The support of the neighbourhood was really huge. We got a lot of support from volunteers and a lot of support from people who purchased tickets,” Doull said, adding that record crowds attended the PGA Tour Americas tournament.

“At the end of the week, the officials from PGA Tour Americas were saying it’s the biggest crowds they’ve ever seen.”

The whole tournament was a success, Doull said, and several local residents who live near the golf course emailed to express their thoughts.

“We were very concerned about how the local residents would feel about the added traffic in the area … I received multiple emails and comments in person from them saying, ‘That was great.’ ‘It was fun to have in the neighbourhood.’ ‘When are we going to do it again?’” he said.

Doull didn’t rule out hosting another PGA Tour Americas event in the future, but noted the Fortinet Cup Championship (which will no longer be called that in 2026, as the sponsorship has ended) will move to the Dominican Republic for the next two years.

“Thank you to the golfing community of Metro Vancouver, but particularly the Surrey area … the players were really blown away,” Doull said. “We gave them a real taste of what the real PGA Tour is like with the crowds, or a little bit of it, anyways. I think Surrey really showed that it can hold big events like this and support them. It was great.”
