LIV Golf is returning to Michigan in 2026.
The Saudi-backed golf league, which has become a competitor to the PGA Tour since launching in 2022, announced Thursday that The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth Township will again host its season-ending team championship.
The LIV Golf team championship will be Aug. 27-30, 2026. Ross Hallett, LIV Golf executive vice president and head of events, called last year’s event at Saint John’s a “successful 2025 finale” that drew an estimated 40,000 spectators over the three-day tournament.
“Team competition is at the core of our League, and our annual Team Championship is one of our biggest events of the year,” Hallett said in a news release. “From the course layout for team match play to the fan experiences to world-class concerts, Saint John’s Resort, Wayne County, and the state of Michigan were fantastic hosts for LIV Golf this past season, and we can’t wait to return next August.”
Last year’s tournament featured a thrilling finish, with star Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team outlasting Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in a two-hole playoff for the $14 million prize. LIV Golf touts a more engaging fan experience, with music playing during competition, fan zones and live concert experiences. Last year’s event included concerts by Imagine Dragons and Swedish House Mafia following golf on Saturday and Sunday.
The team championship event in Michigan will have a new title sponsor this year in Aramco, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company. The Cardinal, designed by Michigan native Ray Hearn, opened in June 2024. Saint John’s was purchased by nonprofit Pulte Family Charitable Foundation from the Archdiocese of Detroit in 2021.
“Welcoming LIV Golf to The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in 2025 was a unique opportunity to showcase what Saint John’s is capable of, while also advancing our Foundation’s mission,” Kevin Doyle, chief operating officer of the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation, said in a news release. “The week exceeded every expectation. The League’s innovative approach is truly reshaping the game of golf both on and off the course, and we’re honored that our property has been selected to host the 2026 Team Championship.
“The feedback we received this past year from local residents and fans across the country was unbelievable – they were blown away by the atmosphere and the fun they had here, and we are looking forward to making an already world-class event even bigger and better in 2026.”
The LIV Golf team championship is the fourth major pro golf event scheduled in Michigan for 2026: LPGA’s Dow Championship (June 11-14 at Midland Country Club), Meijer LPGA Classic (June 18-21 at Blythefield Country Club) and the PGA Tour Rocket Classic (July 30-Aug. 2 at Detroit Golf Club).
General admission tickets for the 2026 LIV Golf team championship are not yet on sale, but premium hospitality tickets are available on LIVGolf.com.
