Join Luke the Weekend Tour Pro as he reviews the brand new Srixon ZXiR HL (High Launch) irons – A super Game Improvement Iron designed for average golfers just like him!
Luke starts the video by giving you an overview of the Srixon ZXiR HL irons by talking you through the key features of iAlloy for improved feels, MainFrame for more MOI and forgiveness and the V.T sole seen in Srixon irons over the past couple of generations for easy turf interaction. As well as talking you through how the ZXiR HL are different to the regular ZXiR model in terms of offset, blade length and overall footprint.
Next up Luke puts the Srixon ZXiR HL through their paces by testing the irons in the studio. Starting with the Approach Wedge (AW) and moving through to the 9 iron, 7 iron and 5 iron. In this part of the video Luke will give you his immediate reaction to hitting the ZXiR HL in terms of ease to hit, forgiveness, feels and sounds whilst calling out the key TrackMan data to back up what he’s seeing. Here you’ll see how effortless these Srixon irons are to launch, how easy they are to hit and how much distance they deliver, whilst seeing just how excited they make Luke feel!
Luke then returns home and offers a comprehensive deep dive into all the TrackMan data from the batch of shots you’ve just seen. Here he talks through the Srixon ZXiR HL data covering the fast Ball Speeds, good Spin Rates, towering Ball Flights and good Distance as well as showing you how easy he found it to centre his strike.
Finally, Luke shows you a detailed comparison of the data he captured, shortly before he started filming, with the Srixon ZXiR to show you how the Srixon ZXiR HL compare in the 5 iron, 7 iron and 9 iron. Here you’ll see that the Srixon ZXiR HL did exactly what you’d expect in the 5 iron and 9 iron but how it surprised Luke in the 7 iron!
Luke wraps up the video by sharing his own verdict on how much he loves these irons and who else might like them too! So are the Srixon ZXiR HL the right irons for you? Watch this video to find out!

This is the Shrixen ZXi R High launch. High launch by name, but is it high launch by nature? Well, let’s find out how it performs in my hands as an average swing speed mid-handicap golfer. And let’s see how it compares to the Stricks and ZX IIR and some of my own golf clubs as well. Let’s get stuck in. Right before we starting shots, I don’t intend in this video to give you a comprehensive overview of the looks and the technology in these irons because I spoke about that a lot in the Shrix and ZedX IR review. And if you want to see that, I’ll put a link to it in the corner for you. But we do get the same tech. We get the eye alloy, that softer face material. We do get the main frame, which is going to help us with those offset to hits in terms of forgiveness, particularly low on the face. And we do get the VT sole that’s very typical of Shicks and Irons over the last few generations. But we get a couple of extra things with the high model. First of all, High Launch by name, we do get those more traditional lofts. For example, the 7ir in this set is 32.5°, which is incredibly weak for a game improvement 7 iron. The other thing we get to help us through this set and add more forgiveness is we get longer blade lengths and more offset. There’s about two clubs worth of difference between the ZXIR and the High Launch in terms of blade length and offset. So, it really is going to be a super confidence inspiring package that feels effortless and easy to hit. And hopefully I’ll prove that over the next 10 or 15 minutes. Right, let’s set up the test and let’s start with that gap wedge and we’ll work our way up through the bag to that five iron. So, picking the uh gap wedge up for the first time or approach wedge up for the first time. Just having come from baselining with the ZXIR, feels there’s a lot of head weight in this shaft and head combination really feels heavy down at the head end of the club. And the size of the footprint here in this wedge, particularly compared to my own gap wedge that I actually use for benchmarking this part of the test, it definitely feels a lot more of a sizable footprint and a lot more offset there. And it just wants to launch so high. High launch by name, high launch by nature. That is so high. 32 degrees of launch, 99 of carry, 101 of total, 74 of spin, 32 of launch though, 82 ft of height, and 54 of land angle. Yeah, two almost identical in terms of their launch. So high. Seeing how high it wants to launch. Interestingly, straight away, I want to put it back in my stance a little bit because I do want to hit down on it and I can feel like I can trust myself to do that rather than, you know, wanting to push the ball further and further forward, which I can be guilty of from time to time to try and help the ball in the air and impacting my angle of attack from being optimal and really easy to hit. The the ZXR are easy. These are easy. If anything, probably even easier. We’ll see that as we move up through the bag. But very easy to hit. Terms of feels, not noticing anything different versus the ZX IIR. Do notice a little bit of a difference in the sounds. There’s obviously something underneath the bonnet of these irons that sounds just a little bit different. But nothing that offends me. All good sounds, just different. That’s the best one yet. Just moved my body. It’s gone so high. Now, if this is a sign of things to come in terms of numbers and performance as we move up, these are going to appeal to golfers that struggle to get the ball in the air because they are launching. This is launching almost like it’s a 100 yard flop shot. Yeah, really good. So, first impressions on this approach wedge. Really confidence inspiring, large footprint. Reminds me a little bit of my Cleveland CBZ wedge that I’ve added to the bag recently. Obviously, same parent company overall. Terms of numbers, maybe similar distance, maybe a yard or so shorter than my gap. We’ll obviously look at that when we get home. But so, so high launch launch angles regularly above 31 32° landing at sort of 53 54° and it feels really easy to hit and really forgiving. So, I’m optimistic as we move up to the rest of these irons to see how they perform. So high launching. It’s a joy. Like first shot out, it’s just an absolute joy to watch a golf ball just fly that high off the club face and into the air. So much stopping power. So much confidence. And you know, you can see there hit it at 96 mph ball speed. 126 carry. I’m about a 127 iron play. That’s where I’d put my own one. 62 a spin, which I think is more than what we were seeing out of the ZXIR, which I think was around the 5,000s. Launching at 26, 86 feet of peak height and 50 degree of land angle off of a good delivery in terms of my face and path numbers. Just a little bit low on the face. It be interesting to see what happens when we just bump that strike up a bit. That’s got to be up there because it felt like it’s explode off the face. Same ball flight, same extreme launch that we want to see even off of a pull, but expecting that to be longer. Yeah. 130 of carry, 97 mph ball speed, 133 total, stopping so quick with 57 of spin. That’s cuz that launch height, land angle, all great. And my strike a little bit further up the face, but not as centered. I really like these. Like I spoke a lot about with the ZXR, like why would you game something that doesn’t make the game easier? These just make the game easier. Unless you play Lynx golf and you need to keep the ball on the ground. Most of us as average golfers, we struggle to get the ball in the air. This will help with that for sure. Yeah. And now I’ve got a feel for the timing with the nine iron. They’re coming out a little bit more. They feel more compressed. They feel more centered. Even if the strike location is not telling me that they are, or in that occasion, it was much better. But now we’re at 99.5 of club ball speed, 133 of carry. So now we’re not losing distance and we’re getting the benefit of that launch. That’s good. Yep. Sign me up. Sign me up for a set of these tricks. And I just would never ever feel like I need to try and help the ball in the air. I almost all of a sudden just feel confident to put the ball in the right position in my stance. It’s then leading to better delivery. It’s then leading to the strike moving up the face a little bit more. Not feeling like I’m having to work it. Not feeling like I’m having to hit it hard. Just so so easy. So easy. everything not to pull it. I’ve just pushed it a few yards. There’s so much hang time. I know I’ve said it a few times, but like I’m feeling like I need to fill the gaps while the ball’s in the air cuz it’s in there for so long. That’s a really nice one to finish on cuz it’s really nice and buttoned. So again, first impressions with this N Iron. We’ve got that eye alloy in here. It feels great off of the middle of the face. Even on those slightly thin strikes because of the main frame getting great levels of forgiveness, still feels great on those low on the face strikes. And in terms of the numbers that we’re seeing out of it, the launch is just effortless high. Such a towering high ball flight with steep land angles. Loads of stopping power from both the land angle and the good spin rate. Really keen to see if that carries on as we move up to the longer irons where it becomes a little bit harder at my swing speed. Again, picking this up like weight in your hand, the head weight is really, really extremely noticeable. And I’m really interested to see what happens to the speeds and my timing of this straight away. Oh yes. Oh my god. It’s still It’s just apex. It’s coming down there. That felt so so good. I just don’t believe those numbers either. 81 mph club head speed, 114.6 of ball speed, carrying at 168 y, spinning at 44, launching at 18.5, 88 ft of peak height and 45 of land angle. It’s I don’t know what to say. Like spin rate, I would like to see it get to 4 and a half thousand because we were at the low 4,000s with the ZXIR. And you’ll see today where I’ve not got the injury and I’m testing it again for benchmarking today. The spin rate was up versus my first review. Exactly like I thought it would be. So, I’d like to see this one go up a little bit more for the loft that we’ve got here. But I can’t believe the ball speed and the distance. And that’s just followed it. It’s so high. Unbelievable height and just how long it feels like. It feels like it’s around its apex for like a good second, second and a half. And I’m not used to that at all. And so is that the ball flight every single time. Gap wedge, nine iron, seven iron. It’s so consistent. So good. So so good. It’s still in the air there. That’s it landing. Like it’s just so much hang time. Look at that middle strike. I’m finding it really easy to middle this. 112 of ball speed. 165 of carry, 4073 of spin, 93 ft of peak height. That’s the normalized one as well, and 46 of land angle. Again, the thing is I need to stop hitting this and move up to the five iron, but it’s a joy to hit. It really is without doubt one of the most enjoyable golf clubs that I’ve tested for some time on the channel because it’s making me feel like a better golfer. And I don’t know if that makes any sense to you guys, but when a golf club does that to you, you’re just like, I want to hit it more. I want to hit it more. And then you just start to get freedom. And then the club head speed jumps up and the ball speed jumps up and it just all feels easy. Oh, it’s such a golf swing. I love that golf swing. Look at the numbers. They’re just I can’t stop hitting it, guys. I really can’t. Put them in the bag. Put them in the bag. So much fun. 167 84 ft in the air. Normalized. Let’s look at the non unnormalized ones on that one. So you can see how high I’m seeing it. 94 ft. Like just absolutely outrageous. Look. So, probably no surprise to hear based on the seven iron where I’ve got so much benchmarking from so many other clubs and therefore it’s a point in the video where I can really start to get a feel for how they are, they’re great. Like I would just buy a set tomorrow. I really really would. They’re so easy to hit. They’re so confidence inspiring. The ball flight, if you’re anyone who’s just ever struggled to get the golf ball up in the air and you don’t put these on your test list, you’re crazy because I am one of those golfers. I’ve perennially always struggled, always wanted to hang back and help the ball in the air. You don’t need to do it with these. You really can just put a golf swing on it and they’ll just fly up in the air. The apex, the hang time, it’s so late, it’s so long. It’s just a joy to watch for someone like me. And I’m falling in love with them with every shot. And then because how easy to hit, I just want to hit more and more and more. They’re great. But the test now is, can I hit the five iron? Oh, yes. Wow. So high. Now that would make me gain a five iron. That is so high. 118 of ball speed, 178 of carry, 3737 of spin, 17 of launch, 82 ft of peak height with a five iron. Obviously my delivery is not great because I’m so scared of a 5iron that I don’t hit down on it enough. But that’s great. They feel great in the five iron, by the way, as well. They really do. Little bit of a pull draw, but so high again. 176 carry, 191 total, 36 of spin, 178 ft of peak height. That’s just outrageous. I can’t believe I’m hitting a five iron. I keep checking the bottom of it. That launch is just ridiculous. Yep. It’s just pitching wedge ball flight that’s gone miles. Absolutely outrageous. Felt amazing. Feels so good. So good. It’s just an unreal one to finish on. Absolutely great. So, look, I don’t game a five iron. I just don’t have the swing speed. I don’t deliver it that great. This is the first one that’s ever tempted me. It’s outrageously easy to hit. It feels unbelievable. And the bull flight, the data will speak for itself in a second. But what I’m seeing in the bay today is it’s so so high. And that’s the theme. The high launch by name, high launch by nature. But I can’t get over for you how easy these are to launch and how high they want to go even in this thing. But let’s go home now. Let’s look at all of the data. Let’s compare it to the data I’ve benchmarked with the ZXR and some of my own clubs earlier and see how good these clubs really are. Right. Time to deep dive into all that data. Now, I will say there’s a lot of data for me to show you here cuz I want you to have as much data available as possible to make an informed buying decision. So, I will make sure I can through this to try and make the video not too long. But feel free to pause it if you want to deep dive into any of these data points in a little bit more detail. Now, starting on the left hand side, there’s a real nice progression in terms of ball speeds and smash factors from that approach wedge up to that five iron. And these are fast irons compared to other game improvement irons that I test. So, if you need a little bit more help in terms of ball speeds, these could be a really good option. The only call out for me here is the difference between the seven IR and the five IR is not that great. And that’s more to do with me and where I struggle to generate a little bit extra speed in long irons. And that’s why I moved to fairway woods and hybrids in this part of the bag. Now, in terms of my strike location, I found this combination of head and shaft really easy to time up and I also found it really easy to get a centered strike out of it as you can see from the pictures shown on screen. Now, in terms of spin rates, again, some really nice progression. Remember, these are off a mat. If we were hitting off the grass, you’d get another,000 RPM of spin. The only call out for me here is the 7 iron spin was a touch lower than I would expect it to be. I wanted that to be around 4,300, 4,500. But the spin rate with the 5 iron is very, very impressive. I was worried that irons in my hands at this park can just fall out the sky. This was the exact opposite. But in terms of consistency of spin rates, 5 iron, 7 iron, 9 iron, incredibly impressive around that 250, 260 RPM. In terms of ball flights, not going to dwell on this too much because we spoke about it a lot in the bay, but the data backs up what I was seeing, as you can tell from the numbers. The thing that really impressed me here was just the peak height and the land angle of the five iron. I’ve certainly tested seven irons on this channel that have had similar peak heights and land angles. Just to show you that front on view of the ball flights, I did think that the ball flight was really consistent on the day. Again, something I spoke about in the bay, and I think that is shown in these trajectory maps that we’ve got on screen. Maybe less so in the five IR, but I do think that’s down to my inconsistency as an 11 handicap golfer. Now, finally, in terms of distance, we can see again that the gap wedge and the 9 iron, they were very similar to what I get out of my own JPX 923 forge, which are players distance iron, but there was a big jump up in terms of distance for the 7 iron. I normally gain my 7 iron around the 154 yard mark. This one at 163.1 is certainly a long 7 iron in my hands. And there isn’t a big jump for me up to that 5 iron for the reasons we’ve already spoken about. And I do think if Shrixen had sent me the six, I actually think I’d have hit it probably the similar distance with just a little bit more stopping power because that’s just where I need that little bit of extra loft in my hands. Now onto that comparison versus the ZXIR. So what you can see on screen is the same data tables for the 5i, the 7i, and the 9 that we’ve just spoke through, but also with the respective data sets from the ZXIR shown next to them. Now the 5ir and the 9 did exactly what you and I probably expected these clubs to do. The high launch version giving us a couple of degrees of extra loft. Delivered a couple of mile an hour less ball speed, a little bit more spin, a much stronger ball flight, and at the cost of a couple of yards. Absolutely perfect. No problems at all. Yes, please sign me up for it. But the 7 iron was where it got really interesting on the day. And this is maybe a test that we need to repeat in a couple of weeks time because with the 7 Ioni, whether it was the confidence that I got from hitting that golf club or just the fact there’s more shots in the data set, the ball speed was actually higher with the ZXIR high launch, but the spin rate was a touch lower at 4103 versus 4365 with the ZXIR. The ball flight was still stronger, but the distance was 4 yards longer as well. Now again, I do think most of that variability is down to me as the handicap golfer and what I was able to deliver on the day, but it is just something worth calling out to you. Now, in terms of my strike location, you can see the ZX IIR was very similar to when I filmed my review. Slightly lower on the face, a little bit towards the heel with that combination of head and shaft together versus the more centered strikes we’ve already spoke about with the high launch. Now, the final thing I want to show you is average data sets tell you one thing, dispersion circles tell you another. Let’s take a look at those circles. Well, with the five iron, you can see that left to right, very, very similar with both these irons on the day in my hands. But you can see the front to back was a little bit tighter with the high launch. The 7 iron though is where it got really interesting. Look at how tight that dispersion circle is with the high launch, both front to back and left to right. And there are more shots in this data set than with the regular ZXIR. Really, really impressive. Finally, with the 9 iron, you can see that left to right was a little bit tighter with the high launch, but front to back was a little bit tighter with the R. So, look, it’s probably no surprise that I love the Stricksen ZXR high launch. I’ve been looking for a while now for an iron that I can put into my bag to make this game a little bit easier where I don’t feel like I’m giving up on anything, and this could just be that model. They’re so easy to launch. The ball flight is so high, and that’s something I need as much help with as possible. Yet, they’re incredibly forgiving. They feel great. and all the other data points that I’ve seen just really give me the confidence. This could be a great option for the mid to high handicap golfer who needs help getting the golf ball in the air, who wants maximum forgiveness and just wants to make this game feel as easy as possible to help them lower their scores. Now, if you are the profile of golfer who doesn’t like offset and you don’t like a chunkier footprint, then do look at the other irons in the Shrix and ZXi family because there could be some great options for you. But if you’re someone like me who just doesn’t care about that, you just want the iron to make the game as simple as possible, please do put these on your test list, particularly if you struggle to get the golf ball in the air because they just launch so high. And you can hopefully get that same feeling that you saw from me when I was in the bay when you start to hit high taring golf shots with these irons. Now, the one thing I didn’t get to do is I didn’t get to do a comparison against the Stricksen ZXi5. The loft progressions between the High Launch and the Five are very similar, even though the two sets of irons are targeted different profiles of golfer. So, if you do want to see that, I can get back into the bay early in the new year and film that and put that on the channel. So, please do let me know in the comments section down below. Now, all that’s left me to say is if you’ve got some value out of this video and you’d like to return the favor, then all you need to do is hit that thumbs up button. That lets YouTube know that golfers just like you may be interested in watching this video. Equally, if you’re not yet subscribed to my channel, there’s a button popping up for you on screen. Press that, hit the bell icon, and you’ll get notified of all my videos as they land on YouTube every single week. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you have a great day. A buy.

Is this iron any different than the hot metal HL?
Really useful video. Definitely on my list to try at my fitting in March.
Top review think we have all been waiting for this one. You’re right the 7 iron spin rates are a bit strange , might be worth another try to see if the results are the same.
Yep agree would be interested with zxi5 against these ,similar lofts.
Try giving Richard a ring at eleven to try the hybrids against the HL. Once again great review
Have you checked the lofts on these irons ?
Can’t wait to try these in January great review 😊
Better then the standard zxr 👀👀🤣🤣
If it makes the game easier worth a go Luke …
Could get yourself a great combo with all the range Luke
These or Dynapower Max?
Hi Luke,
This is just a fantastic review
As usual, yours are the best reviews on youtube.
Have a great Xmas and thank you for all
your great work for all of us throughout the year.
PS, I hope a shootout between these and the P790s & ZXi5s
are on the cards for the new year please 😀
Hi. Luke. Yes would love to see HL vs zxi5
Hi long term viewer here. What iron shaft did you play in them?
