Nelly Korda and Denny McCarthy speak after the final round of the Grant Thornton Invitational (PGA TOUR x LPGA), finishing the week at -25 after a late push up the leaderboard.

They talk candidly about being competitive and a little frustrated they left shots out there — but also why this event is so special for growing the game and building real relationships. The best story? Their hilarious “hole-out game”: if anyone holes out from a certain yardage, the other player and caddie owe them that amount of dollars 💰

They also recap their favorite shots of the week, including Denny’s near hole-outs (and an almost double eagle to start the scramble day) and Nelly’s near hole-out on 18 when they knew they needed something big. Off the course, both admit they were basically homebodies, prioritizing rest — with family time making the week even better.

All right, we have Nelly Corda and Denny McCarthy with us. Just talk about today and your fight up the leaderboard. I >> I'll start. I think right now we're both a little frustrated just just because uh we're both we're both very competitive and and like to win. Um and we we know we probably left some shots out there, but um playing with her is always a treat. Um I like her caddy a lot. Jay, he's he's great. My caddy gets along with them great. We're just so much fun being out there with with them and competing. Her game is phenomenal. Um, you know, I learned a lot three years ago. I continue to learn a lot from her playing with her the last three days and yeah, we just had a lot of fun. >> Yeah, same for us. Like same for me. I mean, um, Jay and I have so much fun with Denny and Derek and, um, it was so nice to kind of get the band back together and, um, team up again. Um, but I have so much respect for Denny and his game and you know, I became a huge fan three years ago. We Jay and I follow him. I know Jay's been out to watch him at a couple events, too. So, um, yeah, you know, this week is so special just in growing the game, but also creating great relationships and I'm a lifelong fan and same as Denny said, like you learn so much from each other and hopefully, you know, that continues to build. Nelly, what was your favorite shot that Denny hit today or this week? And same with you, Denny, after. >> Oh my gosh. I mean, there were so many. I mean, he had some amazing clutch putts. Um, where did you almost hole out? >> Number two. >> Yeah, number two. >> To start our tournament, we I almost made a double eagle to to start the scramble day. I'm trying to think where else. Almost sold out on two today. We were >> We had a whole out game going, so we had a couple close ones. Um, so we were really watching closely, but today you came up really close on number two. >> Yeah, we we were playing a whole out game. Whatever the yardage was, everybody if if they hold out from that yardage, everybody in the group owes well the caddies and the other player owe that person who hold out u that amount of dollars, however many yards it was. And so I think my favorite shot of hers was 18. Uh, just because we knew we kind of needed to haul out. We both were kind of trying to haul out. We had talked about how many times we had almost hauled out and then she hit that beautiful sixiron. >> Yeah. >> Sixironir in there that looked like it was rolling in like a putt and almost went in. So, >> um yeah, that was a really we we were talking about it all the way up the fairway and the fact that she almost did it is pretty pretty cool. >> Off the golf course, what were some of the more fun moments throughout the week? I mean, gosh, it is a pretty jam packed like week, so probably just chill. Yeah. [laughter] >> In the hotel. >> Yeah, we're both kind of I guess we kind of >> like home body. >> Yeah. Yeah, we I mean I didn't really go to the concert. I have been before, but it it's a lot after um you know, it's a long week. It's a really fun week, but um you know, it it wears on you as the week goes on. So, I think we're both in the same boat of just trying to chill and get some rest. I mean, it's kind of nice that we both have our families out, too. Like, he has his entire family, >> I have mine, and plus just being in the field. So, I think when we're off the golf course, just having them around is super nice. >> How does a week like this send you into the off season on a positive note? >> Yeah, it's fun. It's It It's a great tournament to kind of go into the holidays with. I'm I'm playing with my dad next week, so that's always so much fun. And I mean the memories that you create there playing alongside like your dad is I mean those are core memories that you share forever and to see his you know competitive spirits come back and be alive during that one week is a lot of fun but um you know to end the event or to end the year with two really fun events. I mean there's no better way you know to showcase you know women's men's golf and then also have fun on top of it. I I've been off, so this is kind of like this is kind of like g getting back into it for me. I mean, I did play Sea Island two or three weeks ago, but >> yeah, I've been I've been working hard. You know, >> you know, I took some time off and then played Sea Island. And um you know, it was it was a no-brainer to come here and play with Nelly. Um and you know, had I been a little sharper, maybe maybe our names would be at the top of the leaderboard, but >> he's ready. He's ready to make a run [laughter] starting in January. Um, no, we we we had so much fun. This was uh this was a nice way to kind of get some tournament feels, be under the gun. Um, you know, have a chance to win a tournament alongside her and, you know, we just had a lot of fun doing it. >> Yeah. >> Nelly, last one. How's Peter's game looking for next week? >> I don't know. I haven't seen it. So, hopefully good. I mean, he's carrying the team. [laughter] >> Thank you both. >> Thank you.
