Charlie Hoffman is set to make his first competitive appearance since May this week, having earned a spot at the Crown Australian Open. The 2025 season has been a challenging one for the four-time PGA Tour winner. Earlier in the year, Hoffman revealed that he had developed a lipoma on his right shoulder which required surgical removal. Been out of action the last month getting my lipoma on my right shoulder assessed. Hoffman shared on Instagram over the summer. For context, a lipoma is a benign non-cancerous growth of tissue that forms under the skin. They're typically soft, harmless, and movable. Hoffman continued, "At this time, all doctors I consulted with told me it was time to have my lump removed. July 30th is the surgery. We'll be back in action on the at tour in 26. Now back to family adventures in Yoseite." While initially expected to miss the remainder of the year, Hoffman is now returning earlier than anticipated, taking advantage of his exemption category on the DP World Tour for players ranked 101 to 200 in the final 2025 FedEx Cup standings. This will mark his first start since the Charles Schwab challenge in May where he struggled missing the 36ole cut at Colonial. That event was part of a difficult stretch that included three missed cuts in four starts. Though he did record a tied ninth finish at the Corales Panakana Championship, which was his second top, 10 showing of the season after tying for fifth at the American Express. Hoffman also faced a back injury in March, forcing him to withdraw from the opening round of the Valbar Championship after just eight holes. As he heads to Royal Melbourne Golf Club for the Australian Open, avoiding further injury will be a key priority. The field is stacked with notable names, including Rory Mroy and Adam Scott, making Hoffman's comeback a highly anticipated one.
