The Cadillac Championship is back.
A decade after Cadillac pulled out as title sponsor from the PGA Tour event at Trump National Doral, forcing the tournament to leave South Florida, it returns to the same venue, with the same name, in 2026.
Cadillac was named the title sponsor of the Cadillac Championship, the PGA Tour announced on December 15. While the old event was part of the World Golf Championship series, the 2026 tournament, set for April 27 to May 3, is a Signature Event with a $20 million purse.
The course is one of three owned in Florida by Donald Trump, including two in Palm Beach County.
“We are pleased to welcome back Cadillac, a world-class brand whose partnership with the PGA Tour is synonymous with Trump National Doral, a legacy venue on our schedule,” PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said. “We appreciate the support of Cadillac as we bring a new era of the PGA Tour to our fans in Miami.”
The return to Doral was possible because the venue is not hosting a LIV Golf event in 2026. The Saudi-financed tour has held a tournament at Doral each of its first four years, including April 4-6, 2025.
Cadillac has a history with professional golf and the PGA Tour. The company signed on as umbrella sponsor of the WGC series in 2010 and became title sponsor of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in 2011.
The Tour had a 55-year history at Doral when it pulled out following the 2016 WGC-Cadillac Championship. The event was played in Mexico the following years, further angering Trump.
In the following years, Trump heavily criticized the PGA Tour, calling it “disloyal” and urging its players to “take the money now” and join LIV Golf. He said the Tour was “stupid.”
PGA Tour, LIV Golf still not close to a deal
The president’s latest attempt to get back in good standing with the Tour has failed. He met twice met with PGA Tour and LIV officials at the White House in February to try and unite the two, but the sides are no closer to a deal than they were when the “framework agreement” was announced in June 2023.
Doral Country Club opened in 1962 and hosted the Doral Open, which later was the Ford Championship at Doral, from 1962 to 2006.
The resort was built for $10 million and after the property was bought and sold several times, Trump purchased the Doral Resort & Spa, including its signature Blue Monster golf course, for $150 million, in 2012.
The final WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral March 3-6, 2016, was won by Adam Scott.
Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion from Jupiter Island, has won four times on the Blue Monster: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2013.
The Cadillac Championship, the only new event on the 2026 regular-season schedule, is three weeks after the Masters and two weeks before the PGA Championship. It will not carry the tournament history of previous PGA Tour events contested at Doral.
