Welcome. Today we've got a special treat. We're here with KB >> Jack. Thanks. >> Thank you for having me >> in sunny Joberg for now. It keeps raining on us, but we've got a special treat today. What's in the bag, Kyle? Barker. As you can see, there's five woods in the bag at the moment. There's a few extra clubs that we'll talk through. Let's start with the driver, Kyle. So, you've had this in for what, 6 months now? >> Yeah, just uh moved over to Cobra and it's been a real treat for me. Um, >> still using the two driver configuration in the bag and uh, it's really been working for me. >> Yeah. >> But this one just I mean goes absolute miles. >> Yeah. >> And can get up to about 190 ball speed with it. So >> Okay. >> And it's lofted at 9 and a half. And you've got the Diama GT80 TX. That's a shaft you've had for a little while now. >> Yeah. Uh, I've used this shaft um, for about three years now. So really used to it. And the kick point is brilliant. >> Yeah. gets that ball, >> gets the ball nice and high with medium spin. So, >> yeah. >> Let's move on to what you've titled the magic stick in the proud proud spring box head cover. >> Let's go. >> Don't say anything about my wabies, but [laughter] if you zoom in here, Gordon, as we unchath this beauty masterpiece, we've got it's lofted at 12. It's the DS Adapt MaxD. And how do you use this club in conjunction with your true driver here? >> So, I use this club 95% of the time off the tea. Um cuz I can it's the most versatile club in the universe. >> I can hit it off the tea um or off the deck depending on what shape shot I need to hit off the tee. So >> when I hit off a tea, it comes out with a nice big draw. >> Yeah. >> I love to play the draw. And um off the deck it's like fairly straight. Maybe a 5y draw. >> Okay. >> So it's so versatile, so accurate. Yeah. >> Spin spin rates are so consistent. >> This weight in the toe. Does that aid that shape that you're looking for? >> So actually it um takes a bit of shape off. >> Okay. >> Um I was quite surprised cuz you know with some other manufacturers I really struggled to get the big draw going >> um >> you know naturally >> without having to manipulate the swing. Whereas this head for some reason just overshaped like it was hooking like 50 mters. So I had to add a bit of lead tape here to the the toe to uh to minimize that shape and to to get it to around that nice sweet spot of 20 yards. >> Yeah. 20 yard draw. >> So that's one for the viewers and me as well. Shaping the toe will correct your 50 yard hook which is very important. >> Yeah. >> Um you've got the same shaft in this as well. So that's just to keep that consistency at the top. >> Absolutely. Same feel, same rhythm with the swing. And uh >> yeah, >> happy days. Now we go down to your fivewood. You skip threewood. >> Yeah, >> you go straight to fivewood and the seven would in the same D adapt max head >> max. Yeah, >> these are filled with lead tape as well. What's the reason for that? >> Same issue. I was over hooking it, which I love, but it's just unplayable. Like if every course was dog leg lefts, I would be licking my chops, but unfortunately that's not the [laughter] case. That's right. So, um, yeah, I just had to add a bit more lead tape to the toe to stop the over hook, which I was so pleased about. >> And yeah, these I mean, >> these are unbelievable >> uh fairway woods. >> Um, just >> very consistent spin rates. If you mishit one, it like goes maximum 10 short. >> Yeah. >> And, um, >> it's just great. I love them. So you carry on with the Diamana shafts in here, but in your fivewood you've got the 70 g and in the sevenwood you've got the 80 g. >> Yeah. >> Matching the drivers are at 60, aren't they? So there's that just natural progression of weight there. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. Obviously cuz uh the sevenwood's a bit of a shorter club. >> Yeah. >> Need a bit more of a heavier um shaft to have the same feel. >> Um and also cuz the the sevenwood was overturning. So little bit heavier shaft kind of counters that hook as well. Now, >> I haven't seen this club before. >> Yeah, that >> How long have you had it? Tell us about this club. This might be a bit of a unicorn. >> Yeah, this is quite a unicorn. And it's my it's my normal five, which is a six hybrid. It's lofted at 27°. >> Um, it's got a DM on a hybrid shaft in which >> I just love. It's so stable, and >> I just find it's way easier to to hit than a five. Yeah. >> Um, the launch is so consistent. The spin is high. Okay. >> It's it's going to sit on the green. You know, you're coming in from 220 yards. You want it to sit on the green, you know. So, >> yeah, that's the only reason why I use the the hybrid and it's just worked for me. >> Okay. And then we go to your iron. So, you've got the Cobra King MBS. >> Beautiful >> with the KBS est taper 130s. That goes down to pitching wedge, doesn't it? >> Yeah. >> So, these are reasonably new clubs for you. How have they sort of suited your game? How have you fit into them? So, was >> honestly like when I was doing the fitting and everything with Cobra earlier on this year, >> I was testing all the clubs, testing the the semiblades, >> I was like, you know what? Let's try the blade. >> Yeah. >> Let's see. I want to maximize spin. I want to maximize control. >> Let's see if the blade will will work for me. I've never used blades before >> and um honestly, I think it's been the best move in my career. >> There we go. >> Moving to blades. Um, you know, when you look top edge, the top line, it really doesn't look that much like a blade, but um, obviously, you know, side profile is >> spectacular. >> Yeah. >> Um, really good forgiveness. I was worried about the mis hits, you know, but um, >> and the sole the sole is kind of suited to these conditions for you. Sunshine to courses, Kakuya. >> Yeah, >> that that suits this this profile. >> Absolutely. I've got kind of a steep angle of attack and there's a nice bit of relief here. >> Yeah. >> So, yeah, it doesn't dig too much. It kind of glides through the turf and >> yeah, really, really good iron. So, >> fantastic. >> Pleased. >> Now, the wedges actually, in fact, let's go to your putter and we'll save the wedge chat till till just after. So, you've had this Odyssey >> putter in for quite some time. How many years now? >> Nine years. >> Nine years. Okay. So, your relationship with this putter, just talk to us about that. >> It's a quite a special relationship. Um, I remember back in the day when I was still working with Callaway. >> Yeah. >> Um, I said to Rian Spanderberg, I'm like, I need a new putter. I'm really struggling. I've never used a center shaft. So, he's like, let's try a center shaft. You stroke kind of suits it. Straight back, straight through. >> Handed me this one. And, yeah, just never looked back. >> Um, >> it's been with me for 9 years. This used to be a black shaft, but over the years the paint's come off and now it's just a pure silver shaft. >> And same grip. You can see >> same grip. I've never changed the grip. This thing's 9 years old. It's been around the world and made a lot of putts. >> Trying to think what I was doing 9 years ago and I just 9 years is a long time. All right, wedges. This is This is our special treat. So, your pitching wedge, your gap wedge is the Cobra King. Uh that's not the SB, is It's just that. >> So that's true true loft 50. >> True loft is 50°. >> Okay. And that stays in the bag all the time. >> Yeah. >> Don't switch in between. And you've got the high rev KBS shaft in that one. >> Yeah. >> Now your sand wedge, you go to 56 in the same club model. >> Same club, same shaft. That's the gap wedge. >> All right. Now these two, Gordon, I want you to zoom in on these. >> Tell us. So, this 60° Crab King, it's advertised as 60, but what is the loft on this one? >> So, the true loft on this one is 63°. >> Yeah. >> Um, I like to have a lot of loft around the green, especially, you know, if you're shortsided, you don't necessarily want, you know, 60° is still a lot, but that extra three just helps you, you know, that much more. And um also because this is a seven degree bounce, you know, adding the one and a half three degrees of loft Yeah. increases the bounce by one and a half degrees. Yeah. >> So that gives me a bit more relief when I'm playing the flop shots and >> Yeah. >> out the rough. >> Now, the other option that you have for for the lob wedge, which I think you said you'll likely play this week. >> Yeah. >> Uh it strikes fear in me. So, it's it's it's advertised again as a 64 degree club, but what is the true loft of this this uh this Voki Proto9? >> 68. It's a 68 degree lob wedge. >> 68 degree lob wedge >> with six degrees of bounce. >> So, I think let's let's just have you address the ball there and just see if you zoom in there, Gordon, on what you're looking at and then talk about some of the shots that you can hit when you're opening that up or closing it. >> It's unbelievable. I mean, for a I hit a shot the other day was carried 37 m. >> Yeah. >> And was spinning at 8,000 RPM. >> Yeah. >> It was like just ridiculous. And you know, around these greens, firm and fast greens, the more spin you have, the more control you have. >> Yeah. >> So, you can be slightly more aggressive with your landing zones. >> Yeah. >> And especially if you're shortsided in a bunk or in kind of thick rough. >> Yeah. You know, I I just believe having more loft is more forgiveness and you know, you can be more aggressive.

Do the driver and fairways sit slightly closed?
