It was just three months ago that A.J. Ewart inspired a hometown-area gallery at Uplands Golf Club with an earth-shattering 59 at the 2025 Victoria Open.
On Dec. 14, that same talent and momentum pushed the 26-year-old from Coquitlam all the way to earning his PGA Tour card.
Ewart’s sub-60 round in the PGA Tour Americas event, on Sept. 19 set an Uplands course record and helped him into a runner-up finish at the Victoria Open, where he lost in a playoff to Drew Nesbitt.
But rather than falter, that near-miss drove him straight into the intense grind of PGA Tour Qualifying School.
Known simply as Q School, the four-round final stage held Dec. 11 – 14 in Florida at TPC Sawgrass is the gateway to golf’s biggest tour. Only the top five finishers from the field of 176 earn cards for the upcoming season.
Ewart topped the leaderboard, finishing at 14-under with rounds of 66-67-67-66, and winning by two shots. The Team Canada member played within the top five for the majority of the four-day tournament even adding a hole-in-one during Friday’s second round.
His performance also earned him a $50,000 winner’s cheque.
“I came here with the goal to win a golf tournament,” Ewart said post-round in media availability. “It wasn’t necessarily to finish in the top five, or 25. It was to go and prepare to win a golf tournament so to do it feels great. I’m thrilled.”
Ewart was one of two B.C. golfers — along with South Surrey’s Adam Svensson — to earn their PGA Tour cards for 2026. The pair will increase the total Canadian contingent to seven.
South Surrey golfer and Earl Marriott Secondary grad Svensson regained his PGA Tour card after finishing tied for second place, after playing rounds of 70-64-68-66-268.
He has competed in 159 PGA TOUR tournaments since joining the Tour in 2019 with one win at the RSM Classic in 2022, the Golf Canada post noted.
This past year, Svensson played in 29 tournaments and earned three top 25 finishes on the PGA Tour, with his best finish coming at the 3M Open in July at T14 (tied for 14th place).
Ewart has competed in two PGA Tour events during his career, with both coming at the RBC Canadian Open in 2022 and 2025. In addition, Ewart has one win on PGA Tour Americas, coming at the 2024 Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open.
Dylan Wu, Alejandro Tosti and Marcelo Rozo, earned the remaining four PGA Tour cards at Q School.
Ewart and Svensson join fellow Canadians Corey Conners (Ontario), Nick Taylor (Abbotsford,), Taylor Pendrith (Ontario), Mackenzie Hughes (Ontario) and Sudarshan Yellamaraju (Ontario) on the PGA TOUR in 2026.
The PGA Tour season opens Jan. 15-19, 2026, with the Sony Open in Honolulu, Hawaii.
