The Trump administration has issued a notice of default to the group that manages Washington’s three municipal golf courses, escalating a behind-the-scenes struggle over who will control some of the District’s most visible public land and effectively positioning the president to operate its public golf properties.
The move could imperil the National Links Trust’s 50-year lease with the National Park Service and clear the way for Trump to advance his own vision for redeveloping the courses, particularly the East Potomac property that includes views of the Washington Monument and for years has been a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
The default notice, dated Oct. 29, did not specify reasons the group was in default or how the group could remedy any concerns. According to terms of the lease, the National Links Trust had 45 days to address any concerns, which means the nonprofit group could lose operational control of the East Potomac, Rock Creek and Langston courses next week.
National Links Trust pushed back on the administration’s stance, defending its work to rehabilitate the courses and noting that it recently begun an extensive renovation at Rock Creek in Upper Northwest.

I have lived at Rock Creek and Langston the past 3 years and NLT is doing great work. Slow and steady while trying to do right by everyone involved. Fuck this man and everything he stands for. I hope he rots in hell.

Sadly, I don’t see anything to stop Trump in this land grab. If he is going to demolish part of the White House without repercussion, what’s stopping him from taking over a municipal golf course?

I can understand the value in the East Potomac land, even if I’d far prefer it stay as is at lower rates, but there is no value at Rock Creek, barring a massive overhaul and Langston isn’t much better.
