TAMPA, Fla. (December 12, 2025) – Head Coach AJ Newell and the University of South Florida women’s golf team announced the addition of Aliya Liberatore to the 2025-26 roster. Liberatore joins South Florida after spending a semester at Missouri.
Liberatore appeared in one event for Missouri and tied for 27th. She posted a 150 (+6) and notched an average round of 75 (+3). She has an impressive resume highlighted by three consecutive appearances at the Girls PGA Junior Championship and a No. 6 ranking in New York State by the AJGA. She recorded runner-up finishes at both the AJGA Junior at Huntsville and the AJGA Dana Junior Open. She added a strong fourth-place performance at the Girls’ New York State Junior Amateur Championship.
A three-time champion at the Junior PGA Championship qualifier, Liberatore has also showcased exceptional consistency across tours, earning eight top-five finishes on the SFPGA Tour and three top-five finishes on the FJT Tour.

Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour player and NCAA All-American, enters her second season as head coach of the USF women’s golf team. In her first season, she coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Newell coached the Bulls to four top 10 finishes in the 2024-25 season.
Newell took over leadership of the Bulls’ program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped guide the Wolverines to three straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and a trip to the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.
