We Tried Out for Auburn’s D1 Golf Team…
Welcome back to Going D1, the series where we try out for the best golf teams in the nation and attempt to make my childhood dream come true, playing D1 Golf. Today we find ourselves at Auburn University, home of the 2024 National Champions. We will be touring their $15 million facility, working out with their trainer, and then trying out for the team. Now, in episode 1, we tried out for the University of Tennessee, where we fell short, but gained honorary status. Today, we want to make the team fair and square. Is this the moment we’ve trained our whole lives for, or will the pressure be too much to handle? Oh, welcome to Going D1, coach. How are you doing? Welcome. Thank you for having us. You guys ready for tryyous today? Sure are. Wow. Welcome to Auburn. Cow. You walk in, you’re like, “Wow, here it is.” Yeah. Pretty cool, huh? Got all our ladies trophies on the right. Got all our men’s trophies on the left. We got some of our tour players, guys. So in the history of the of the program, too. So all these guys that have gone to Auburn made it on the tour. Yeah. So many guys that played the tour. 2024. That ain’t bad, is it? No. That’s what we all work towards. That’s why the kids work so hard, right? Unbelievable. They work hard for these rings. They work hard for trophies. Can I hold the ring? Yeah. You want to try it on? Oh my gosh. I Oh my. Yeah. This might be your only chance. Whoa. What does that mean? That’s why I’m here today. So every player gets one of those for winning. 10 Turney wins. They taking a picture of the ring or your finger? No, it’s not coming off. I got to keep it. I got yours forever. You know, I’m not going to try it on cuz next year I got faith we’re going to make the championship. Yeah, I like that. After we make the team. I like that mentality. You already You’re already in, you know, you got you got good grace right now. Here, let’s take a tour. Yeah. Yeah. People hang out here a lot. Like, do the players come here and just talk? Yeah, they come in here and hang out, watch TV. They hang out in the locker room a lot, too. But this is kind of like a little players lounge area. Okay. Um, and grab something to eat. They could study. Do they work in here schoolwise? Yeah, some of them do. Okay. Yeah. They’ll come over there and sit over there and take a take a quiz or whatever on ProctorU and then they come in here and get pretty heated. Oh, I bet. Ping pong. Find the guys that are good at ping pong are pretty good around the greens. Really? That’s They know how to control face angles and how to hit different shots. Know how to spin it. I need to get good at ping pong. Yeah, you need to play more ping pong, right? Sure do. Yeah. If this is a judgment of short game, I think you This is a try out for the ping pong team. We got a club team. Okay. See what we got. Oh yeah. Yeah, we we need to spend more time on ping pong. Last try. Or as the Olympics say. Oh, it’s called table tennis. Look at this. Oh, come on, baby. He’s two up. He’s one up in the trophy room. Yes, sir. Make sure you’re writing that down or keeping a mental. I got it. I got it right here. Women’s coaches on the left here. We got three coaches there. They’re fabulous. Our head coach won twice on the LPGA. Did you? You guys didn’t know that? I did not. Miss Lule Allen. Yeah. In my office back in here. So, Whoa. One thing that really stuck out. I was talking to him before we we started filming and he said, “You give these books to the players.” Yeah, we do. We We kind of have a reading thing that we do and I’m just all about trying to prepare these guys for life. And uh hopefully that they kind of intertwine with golf, right? It comes down to just you got to believe in yourself ultimately, right? The number one predictor of success in life is self-confidence. I love that. You know, if you believe in yourself, no matter what you do, you got a chance to be great. Everyone in the world can believe in you, but if you don’t believe in yourself, don’t go anywhere. Preach it. Preach it. It’s very true, right? Yeah. No matter what you do, the indoor the indoor here. This is sick. Oh my god. Wow. We got a Trackman sim um right here. We just dropped down a screen right in front of the door. Um we got force plates there, so you can see the you know, pressure. Three quads sitting in the locker room this morning. One of the guys that’s already been out here practicing Sunday morning at 7:30. He’s out hitting balls. Dude, this is the best indoor. You got holes in here, too. See? So, you can putt. And this is the virtual green that I’m standing on. It’s really good for guys that that need like vision like to work on like seeing things. Yeah. Cuz you can do different lines, different apparatuses, and and you can really kind of show them how they’re supposed to see the apex of the brake. Got it. So, it’s it’s a pretty good little training tool. All right, we just made it to the workout facility. We’re going to get put through a training tour and uh we’re going to see what it’s like to work out with and as a D1 golfer and where we’re at. See if we can compare. Coach is going to put us through some tests. See if we’re at the point where we would be considered for the team. Welcome to the weight room. How we doing? This is an iron playground. Yeah, absolutely. This is definitely the home of Auburn Golf and where we commit to working really hard. Yeah. We don’t take on players that can’t give us that part. So, if you look up on the wall, that comes out of our creed. The Auburn creed is really important to us here. Explains what we expect out of the Auburn student, the Auburn faculty, staff, um, all the above. We get what we put into it. Today, you’re going to put us through the test, see where we’re at and see if we’re athletically up to par for D1. Yeah. We’re just going to I’ll give you kind of a a scale on where you fit amongst our team and amongst other teams. All right. We hope it’s report to coach something good. We’ll find out. We’ll look we’ll we’ll give them all the positives. I’ll try and I’ll brush over the negatives and then we’ll focus our attention on the golf course cuz that’s where you can really impress the the old big guy over there. Follow my lead a little. You can stay there just arms width apart and we’re just going to we’ll start arm circles small to big forward and back. So let’s do this. Let’s get a let’s get just a simple overhead squat. We use a physical therapist that gives me a lot of the information I need, but it’s nice to kind of see it for myself as well. All I want you to do is take that bar overhead, kind of get it to where it’s like at a field goal. Like if you’re going to put your hand straight up, just get it in like field goal width. Give me like five reps. Give me one more. What do you think? I mean, honestly, Ashen pretty pretty good. Mobile kind of all throughout. Hips are good. Ankles are solid. Shoulders are pretty good. Torso stayed nice and upright. Um, ankles. Ankles number one. Um, hips probably a little stiff. Um, especially the right one. Definitely some torso control and shoulder mobility would be helpful. You’re also out of breath. Yeah, I don’t need cardio. So, we should do some conditioning as well. So, we’ll go straight from that. Let’s go see what kind of power output you got. force plate. So, this does this help you tell how good we can kind of use the ground and yeah leg power. This is more of a direct correlation to the weight room movements and vertical jump, but it gives us some good knowledge of which side you’re more dominant with. What’s your maximal power output? Um, Josie, use your arms and everything. Okay. Oh, okay. Let’s see a true Let’s see a true counter movement jump out of you. It’s pretty good. How’s that? So, it’s 66.1 cm. But if you notice the 99th percentile part, it’s pretty good. Yeah. What is it in inches? We’ll edit until I figured it out. 26 in. All right. 26. And keep in mind like tour average, I believe, is like 20 in. What? Really? 22 in. Really? N told us like 30 something, didn’t they? This does read a little different than if we they have like these jump mats where you put down. They have a little cord that hangs out with them. flip switch. Like if you ever register pretty high cuz I had 28 on that one. And those those are great for confidence. Really great for confidence. 51.4. Top 90% give or take. It’s pretty good. Jump. I can see that you were a gymnast right away. Just how you you loaded and everything. It just jumped out right away. So, based off of these numbers being around 20 in, like if y’all hit the ball straight off your driver, I’m sure it goes about 300 yards. Yeah. Is that right? Yeah. Give or take. Yeah. Perfect. No, all really good stuff. I can tell y’all can hit the ball well and at least get them out there. Yeah. Booty power. We’re about to test those. One thing we’ll do today, I have a lot of faith in you, too, and your strength, your availability of strength. And in reality, this isn’t probably the first thing I would take you to, but Oh, boy. Pitch. The pitch arc, a belt squat, we utilize for sure. Ah, so working on being explosive. Yeah, Josiah loads really really well. He he generates a lot of energy and force from the floor. So for him, just that kind of quick concentric explosive movement just allows him to continue doing what he does really well. And go. Yes, sir. And go. Get up there. And I just want you to sit back with it like you’re sitting on a toilet. And then stand it up and go. Push, push, push, push, push. Yep. Nice. There you go. And push. Yeah, Johnny’s got that leg push. Go. Yes, sir. That was really good. I think you could maybe stop your squat a hair higher. Too low with the the natural thing for that belt to do is want to pull your pelvis underneath you. So, it’s really important to brace against it hard and sit down. And I’m okay with you going just past parallel and standing up. Okay. Dang. I wish I had one of these near me. But when I make the team, uh, you just come. That’s right. That’s right. Open door policy here, man. If you want extra work, just come on through. So, make the team. All right. All right. So, one big policy that we have here at Auburn, uh, it’s been passed down through all the teams throughout the years, not something that we created, but something that we inherited, is accountability. It’s a big thing for us as a team. Uh, if you kind of mess up anything, you’re going to get a little bit of a punishment for it. So, we’re going to run these guys through a box push. And basically what that is is if you wear the wrong kit to a workout, you’re late for something, you drop a club on the golf course, if you wear a hat into workouts, just a bunch of little things that we like to keep as uh reminders that we’re all one team. And you watch the person do the punishment. Oh yeah, we’ll watch everyone. So what is it? Explain it. So we got these gray boxes right here. They’re a lot heavier than they look. You guys are going to push it down to wherever I’m standing. Flip it and push it back. Since there’s two of you, we’ll let you share a box. Oh, well, we get to tear a box because typically we get your own box. Get your own box. Get your own box. Let’s make sure you earned it. Oh, man. We didn’t do anything wrong. I need cleats. Whatever you do, that box has to get down there and back here. I don’t care how you did it. And this is just get it done. Yeah, get all this. Just get it done. Go. Go. Just got to get it done, fellas. The tortoise can win. Don’t give the hair too big a lead, though. Here you go, boys. Oh, he’s smiling. This is where it starts to This is where it starts to sink in a little bit. Head down technique. Wow. Good work, guys. Think about every minute you’re late to a team meeting, it’s there and back. So, if you’re 5 minutes late, that’s five of them. Yeah. Is that pretty good? That was great. That was pretty good. Y’all killed that. That was very good. Most people take a break. So, yeah, just good incentive to be detail oriented and mature and grow up and do all the right things to be the best person you can be. Good job. He’s struggling. Good job. Huh? What do you What could you tell coach about how we did our athletic ability so far from your point of view? Um, from a mobility perspective, we have one that really checks almost every box. Check every box. Every box. Yeah, we have one that checks most boxes from that perspective. Definitely room to grow. He’s a grower. He ain’t a shower. Like he shows strength numbers would be great. Both of them. Uh plenty strong. Jump numbers plenty plenty good comparable to PJ Tour pros. I mean they’re they’re willing to put the hard stuff done. Get get the hard stuff done. Strong. Strong. They can jump. Gritty. Cool. I like it. Something to think about right there. Thank you. I don’t know. But the coordination thing scares me though a little bit. But they have good but their character seems high. Coordination. Character. I’ll go with coordination. It’s not going to be easy, mate. This isn’t an easy job to get, guys. This wasn’t an easy job. All right. Well, thank you so much for putting us together. You got it. It was pleasant. Yeah. Lots of fun. Oh my gosh. My legs on fire from that. We’ll see you at the golf. Man, these boys can stripe it. I take you on a scramble team all day long. The question is, can you hit wedges? We’re getting ready to find out. That’s a good test. We’re getting ready to find out. They’ve proved they can hit the driver. Oh, they can definitely hit the driver. We’re going right now. We’re going to go through warm-ups. Okay. The guys are going to get warmed up and then we’re going to head down to the bottom on our 30 acre facility and we’re going to start our try out. So, they’re getting ready mentally and physically right now. Do you ever judge people in warm-ups or you just like let them do their thing? Just warming up. All right. Yeah. No judgment. Oh, I’m totally judging you. We’re not judgmental people. Trying to stretch. You flush it like that. We like that. I am pleasantly surprised. We like that. These boys can hit the golf ball. Yeah, they’re pretty good actually. Yeah, they’re they’re pretty good. Thank you. Few stretches in here a little bit. Oh my god. He’s totally Can you do that? Can you Oh my goodness. I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m not sure what to say. All right, guys. Welcome to the formal try out here at Auburn. Okay, three different things we’re going to do today. Okay, one, we got a tornado drill on the putting and I’m going to give you guys a sheet and you get points based on how many putts you make. There’s 10 putts. Okay, so how many you make, how many points you get. We have a short game course on the far back right green, which your score there is going to be based on how many points you get, too. Okay, and then we have our wedge contest up here. Then we’ll total it all up and then that’ll determine that’ll determine it right there. I love it. Okay. I love it. Is there any total points that if we get that amount that’s more of a consideration for the team or is this purely me versus Ash? It’s everything. It’s David and I, Coach Johnson and I will make that decision at the end. It will help yourself if you beat him. Okay. Okay. Okay. Let’s get after it. Here we go. Fun. Yep. Let’s do it. All right. What we have here is the tornado drill. Okay. There’s 10 putts. You’re going to follow one through 10. Okay. And then how many you make is determined how many points you get. So if you make 10, you get 100 points. Make nine, you get 90, 8, 80, 7, 70, 6, 50. Five or less, you get zero. You’ll start one, two, and work your way all the way back to 10 here. So you’ll start here at one, go to two, three. Go through your routine. Really try and, you know, give it your all. Look at that. I just don’t want to get zero points. You got this. Stay left. Good try. Went for it. Oh, okay. All right. We’re going for it. Oh, he’s aim pointing it. So good. Huh. No shame. Nice. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Now, one thing I will say about John’s game is he started in 2020. Wow. Yeah. Started incredible. Pure athlet athleticism, right? You love it, too, don’t you? Yeah. I love it. Yeah. He hated it though. Well, I started mid 2020. Yes. And I quit actually because I didn’t want to play golf. And then January 2021, Ashton’s like, “We need someone for the golf team in high school.” So January, I started hitting indoors. Gave it one last shot. I’m like, “I’ll give it one more.” And I stuck with it since. All it takes is that one flush five iron. You’re like, “I love this game.” Oh, wow. Brutal. Good try, though. Do you see what’s going on over here, though? I I kind of noticed. Well, he’s watching. He’s watching. He He’s got uh He’s writing down all the He’s wring down all the He’s getting all the reads. He should be standing over there. You have a blindfold for this guy. He wore the colors. He’s got all the extra stuff ready to go. Yeah, we should be giving him read. I’ll walk away. I’ll go away. Beauty. That was a great stroke. Thank you. What do you see in this one? I I I see this one falling. I do, too. Oh, it’s a good stroke. I just way too much. Make the next one. Got a boy. Yes, sir. Four feet. No, he doesn’t miss those rockolid. All right, this is the big one. All right, give him a read. Come on, Josie. What you see? It’s like a ball at a foot and a half, five speed. Yeah, I’m going to hit a little softer. Oh, he hit it hard. Oh, he hit it hard. Yeah, I went up. I gave you the read for the right speed. That if if I took it right exactly, that was it. All right. Now you got to finish strong. Here you go. He wasn’t sure about that one. He really wanted to just put the law on the marbles on the last putt, didn’t you? Well, this is for five. This is for five out of 10, which would be zero points, right? The good news is you’re still tied for the lead. Well, we finished strong anyway, right? Never give up. It’s part of the try out, right? It’s a big pot here. Actually, this is going to show how you handle adversity. Coach Johnson’s staring you down right now. I’m ready. I want to see it. I want this thing in the hole. I’m willing it in for you. Made it. Wow. Center cut. Yeah. Good finish. Good job. Nice job. That’s five out of 10. That’s not bad. That’s okay. That’s okay. All right. Good. All right. Oh, he’s a good putter. He is. I can tell by that stroke. Yeah, he’s a good putter. He’s serious, too, is he? I love it. He’s locked in big time. Oh, I love it. He’s not smiling. He’s not talking. Made it. Look at this guy. Dang. My man. Hey, Josiah, weren’t you out here yesterday with him doing this? Is that what you guys were doing back here? They’re on this hole, too. Yeah, I saw him come down here. It’s a little fishy. A little fishy there, is it? Favoritism. He felt bad he took the spot from Ash. He and Josiah had a long talk yesterday. I’ve heard I’ve heard I’ve heard. I wrote you an email. But what you said was regarding the 2023 class. I currently have a commitment and very short and a very short list of players and he was one of them. You know what, Josiah? He took my spot. Josiah took your spot. He did. Oh wow. Man, this ball just rolls. Three for three, man. Should have responded to that email a little differently, huh? That’s what I’m here to do. Now he’s smiling. Hey, I got a smile out of him. Showing you exactly what you missed. That was a good putt, too. Good try, though. Yeah, that was a good putt. Good luck. All right, that’ll move a little bit, man. Good putt. Good putt. I love it. Didn’t move, man. He rolls it good though, doesn’t he? That one fooled you a little bit, didn’t it? Oh, it did. Yeah. No, I hit that exactly how I wanted to. Nice putt. Five for seven. There’s five. There’s five. This boy is all points from here. Oh, it doesn’t move. Just threw it out there. It just doesn’t move. Yeah, it just doesn’t want to. All right, two putts to get some points on the board. Oh, he pushed it. Oh, he pushed it. Oh no. Oh no. Oh my god. On hold. Are we on 10? This is it. This is it. This is it. Come on. Incredible. Oh, clutch. Yes. Get in there, boy. All right. On the board. Let’s go. Great job. Great job. Great job. We got some points on the board. Let’s go to the short game course. Yeah. Let’s rock. Okay. So, take your uh 54 and 60. Okay. And your putter. First impressions of their putting. What do you think? Um, I like the way they roll it. Yeah, they they aim point reading the greens well. They go through the routine, which we’re always harping our guys. Go through your routine. Treat it just like you would on the golf course. So impressed. That is like the most amount of pressure I have felt in a very long time. Oh, imagine that. But when we do it, losers fill all the divots on the range. Oh, there’s pressure on for sure. And you don’t know what all the other people are doing cuz you start at different stations. Ah, so every part has what do you think some of like the biggest factors difference between a college golfer like a D1 college golfer and like a a high schooler? Um I I think you know most growth from from high school to to to college golf is just the maturation process right maturing as a person uh maturing as a golfer. I think the better players are the better ball strikers too. The guys that drive it better and they strike it better. But overall it’s just a maturation process and and self-belief right that the belief they have in themselves and their practice habits and how they conduct their lives that that that makes a massive difference. That do you think that’s like part of the just being around the right culture of people? Yeah, 100%. I think no matter what you do in life, being in the right culture, being in a culture that that that is going to be encouraging and productive and and uh one that’s going to be kind of a winning culture, too. Culture is a big deal cuz culture, listen, at the end of the day, culture drives behaviors, and behaviors drive habits, and habits create your destiny. Wow. That’s what it is. Powerful. Yeah, I do like that. Well, that’s what culture does. Okay, this is one of our five greens right here. And now second part of the try out today. We’re going to head to the up and down game, the short game course. Okay, they’re all colorcoded, guys. So, white goes to white, gray to gray, blue to blue, orange to orange. Okay, we got six holes. And then whatever you score in relation to par, pars two on every hole. Okay. Okay. It’s how many points you get. Shoot even or better on six holes. Okay. 100 points. Hope. Okay. Plus one’s 80 plus 260 plus 350 plus 4 is 40. Plus five or more is 20. Got it. Okay. Through six holes. Through six holes. Six holes. Okay, that’s it. So, we have to finish everything out. Yeah. Love it. This is the guy. This is This is m This is your putter, your wedge game. Can I pitch it? Can I hit bunker shots? Can I chip it? All right. So, we’re going white to white, open and hole right here. Six hole match. All righty. Full up and downs. Oh, nipped it too. Good. Almost. You’re hitting that up. Did you make that though? Ah, I’m going to be the I’m going to be the oddball. I’m going to putt this. I’m feel I’m just feeling a lack of confidence in the shipping right now. What do you think? No. No. I think I think he’s a strategist. I think he’s out here. He’s going to You’re right, though. The fairway here is probably rolling a 10. So, you should not be putting this. Oh my gosh. Sure about that, Josiah? Yeah. Yeah. You might learn a couple things from him, Josie. Yeah, you might. Thank you. Thank you. And you were questioning my cause. But dang, that was great. Maybe maybe I’m not too bad at ping pong or table tennis. Nah, you need to you need to go a little bit of work on that. I get carried away. All right. So, where did you learn aim point? You’ve only been playing golf five years. I uh who who taught me it? Himself. YouTube. YouTube taught him that. All right, let’s make this one. Little bit of a misread there. Aim point didn’t come through for you on that one. Good speed though. Yeah, very good speed. Yeah, great pace. Difficult shot. That’s an incredible up and down. That is great up and in there. That is a really good up and down sweetness there. Love that. Thank you. All right. All right. All right. On to the next. That’s all you can do. One over to even. We’ll let you. We’re going to drop this. We’re droppers. No preferred lie here. Yeah, all our practices we we drop. So, no no teeing it up. Going out of the bunk. Got the peanut. Don’t worry about the peanut gallery in the back. Okay. You do you. Little firm. Little firm. At one time I thought it might be going in the bunker. No. Stand on the green. Just off the green. Okay. All right. You know what? He’s giving himself a chance for par. That’s right. I bailed. He bailed on it. That’s what I was scared of. It’s all about the recovery. Good. Yeah, it’s good, man. What? Did you look at it from both sides? I didn’t. Oh, there you go. Coach him up. Coach him up. Oh, he gave it a rip. Good try. I don’t dislike it. Oh, that was very good. Look at how that speed. Let’s go. Just got to stay committed. That was my one time where I’m a little uncommitted. No more. All right. Your shot. Uhoh. Nipped it. Just hit right in that little ups slope. It held up on you, though. Hit. Hit it. Wow. All right. I like this one. Remember the ball’s moving the fastest there. Then it slows down. It’s going down way. Oh, he hammered it. Missed it. Started it too far right. I did. That was very good. Go in for him. That’s a piece. Pick it up. Pick it up. Very good. Thank you, fellas. Let’s go. First par. All right. Better contact. You can make that putt. Come on. Put those putting skills to use. All right. Right here to the blue. It’s an easy one here. Did she pick this one? It’s an easy one. How are we supposed to hit this one to the blue flag? Josie, can you give him a little uh number 10 in the world? Number 10 in the world. See what he’s got. Oh, he hit a beauty, folks. Oh, that’s actually pretty good. He’s going to stay. Come on. Oh, he ripped it. Oh, saddle down now. Oh, boy. Well, level playing field. We should have just put the pin over there, dude. It’s like a whole new hole now. Makes Jos shot look pretty good, doesn’t it? Yeah. Smart decision here to putt that. Yeah. Settle. Uhoh. Oh no. Oh no. Oh, don’t do it to him. Oh no. No. Oh no. Be you here. Wow. Oh, find it. Oh, one of them got up and down at the blue. One of them got up. Wow. Get you some of that. Yeah. Look at that. Oh Saddle. Wow. It’s hard to read these slopes, dude. It is. Buckle down. Knock this one in. Oh yeah. That a boy. Way to work. Way to work. I love it. Where does that take you? Five. Yeah, I’m five over. Here we go to the bunker. Let’s see, coach. Yeah. What’s coach got? Oh, I hate to say it. I just didn’t see that coming. I did not see that one coming. First bunker shot I’ve hit since July. Yes. That a boy. Wow. Oh my. That’s why he’s top 10 in the world. Slides. That is crazy. John, where’s your ball? Way over there. Oh my god. Go get that ball. Yeah. All right. This is my turn going first here. Please make sure to leave that in the video. Thanks, Matt. You’re welcome. It’s really nice of you. Here it comes. Oh. All right, Johnny. Come on, John. Come on, baby. You got this. Oh, no. Ash is okay with that one, though. He’s okay with that one. I just need that on the green even to go four over if I bogeied. That’s a good one. How about that shot? He just needed it on the flat. He didn’t want the UPS slip. Yeah, that’s a good shot. Oh, I love it. Oh, this is awesome. That’s what You know what? Hey, hey, hey. This is where Oh my god, this is incredible. This is where the split comes in handy. Right. Right, coach. That’s why I brought that out here. Ain’t happening. All right. You got a putt at it. Good out. We got to put at it. Like this is the first time I’ve actually felt pressure in a really long time cuz like you can’t try and place the ball and if you do that’s exactly what happens. So you got to play golf. Six over is 10 points now. Oh, seven over is zero. Okay. He said he likes pressure. Josiah just put more pressure on you. Good. Okay. Dive. Dive. Dive. Great try there. Good job. Never a doubt. Never a doubt. Let’s go over to the wedge the finale. All right. Okay. We’re going to go over to the T for the wedge pods. All right. So, it’s 20 to 60. You’re up 60 to 20. He’s up 40. All right. So, coach, besides the points, what is something you’re noticing with us that you like and one thing you don’t like? Uh, I’d say that the first thing I’ve noticed a lot with these guys is just how they intentional practice, right? They’re focused, their purpose. They’re they’re going through the routine. They’re reading the greens. They’re taking their time like you’re you’re acting like it’s a you’re on the golf course trying to score, right? Which is a great great quality to have when you’re practicing. One thing you need to get better on, just see better shots. Yeah. Straight up. Straight up. Get the ball in the hole faster. But hey, what we’re going to do here, the finale. Okay. We got two cones. We got a blue cone and an orange cone. And we got six wedge pods that are filled with sand. Okay. They’re 10 foot in diameter. Okay. Okay. And then we’re going to go from each cone, you’re going to go to each sand pod. So you got six shots at the blue and you got six shots at the orange. You get one shot at each cone to the money ball net. We’ll go 40 points net. We’ll go 20 points each sand pod made. Okay. 14 shots total. Make sense? Makes sense. Okay. They’re smart enough to figure that out, so that’s a positive. All right. So, first round from the blue cone. He’s got seven shots. Six to the sand and then one to the net, which is worth 40 points. The other one’s worth 20. Oo. Go, go, baby. The easiest one. Le short. Oh my gosh. Ashton, that’s for the back pin. When you’re hitting into the wind, back pin, you’re trying to skip it in there, right, Ash? Yeah. Yeah, of course. Just got to play your shot, bud. Anything you would tell him, coach, on that swing? Yeah, it just looks too um too far across the line, too steep and on top of it. That’s why it’s like such a a knife. Knifed. Oh, get lucky. Higher than the last one. It’s higher. Lot better. Hello. Oh. Oh, that was close. Better. A lot better. Close. This your comeback right here. I know. I need it. That’s where you take the lead. Yeah. Going into the final countdown here. Better though. A lot better. It’s better. All right. Money. Net. You got this. Well, Johnny, I left the door open. That’s all yours, man. Couldn’t be more open. Couldn’t be more open. So, we need to make two makes. You’re tied. Okay. Gosh. Be aggressive with them. Get it to fly there. Come on. Get there. Oh, good try there. Yeah. We got five more. Oh, that’s really good. Oh, that’s nippy. It goes short on everything. Short. You just got to fly it there, man. Come on. Let’s get one past 70 on the white. Yeah. Be aggressive here. That might do it. Uhoh. Please. Yes. Come on, baby. That’s what we’re talking about. Bring it. Come on. All right. All right. That’s 20 down, Ash. 20 down. It’s making a comeback. Oh, hit it. Wanted it. I mean, you’ve hit five pretty dang good shots, so I will give you that. All right, let’s see if we can tie Ash with this one. Oh my god. Oh yeah. Come on. Down. Down. This is getting intense. Oh boy. Look at this. Do you want to go first or do you want to wait? I feel like John should know. Yeah. Should I throw off his rhythm here? Yeah. I’m gonna let him I’m gonna go. That’s all you’re playing for 2020. What? Oh, yeah. He started. It’s unbelievable. Thank you. Well done. Nobody helps you. Just being around him. Really? Just kind of do it yourself, dude. That’s incredible. That’s awesome. Like, that’s really cool. Wait. Yeah. Did I Did I show you this, Jose? No. Look at this. Come here. Wow. That’s pretty good. Yeah, I don’t know. Ash, are you helping him? Do you That’s incredible. 54. Oh, I could better. Good distance. Yeah, I think that was the right number. Just getting stuck. Come on. Couple good ones here for you. Come on, kid. Come on. Oh, was a good strike, too. That was a good distance, too. Come on, baby. That a boy. That’s That’s huge. That’s huge. The ball doesn’t hit this on launch. Is that a thing? Oh, well, I mean, as low as you’re hitting it. Yeah. Well, Bermuda. I don’t play Bermuda. Point there, coach. What was your hitting? It might Oh, no. Oh, no. Plug drop there. Oh, Matt. Josiah, that’s a box push. A box push. Oh, wow. Oh, good action there. Pure swing. Gosh, that was such a good swing. Like that swing is so fundamentally sound and pure where when he gets locked in and he practices dayto-day, he is like a D1 golfer where me I’m like working on it still. I can play good, but I think he’s fundamentally better and we don’t practice. Maybe that’s why I get the edge on him cuz I feel like I don’t know my edge is I need to grind in a way. I need to that’s how some guys are. Yeah. Some guys can’t miss a day. No, I faster. Yeah. And with travel and everything else, it’s really tough sometimes, right? For sure. All right, final one. Here we go. 80 points. I had 60. Hey, you know what you do here is you just two makes and you can we’ll let you drop the club then and celebrate. Wow. Wow. You’re getting a free pass. Yeah. Free ridiculous, man. I’m cheering for this. Oh man, that’s nice action. Oh yeah. Oh my god. Hey, we’re tied up. One more. Drop the club. Take a victory lap. Take a victory lap. Oh my gosh. No problem, coach. Dude, that is lovely. Holy God, dude. That is some I have not seen you. That looks incredible, dude. Dude, that’s like control. That looks incredible. Thank you. Are you trying to reverse psychology right now? Yeah. Yeah. Oh. Oh, you’re safe on that one, Ash. Man, dodged another bullet. That was That was a good distance, though. You’re safe on that one. He’s feeling something. And he’s got three more. A little short. Little short. That swing didn’t look the same. That’s a little chunky. Uhoh. Uhoh. Go. That’s short. Oh, my heart dropped. I thought you did it right there. Wow. Two more. You got this one right here. Come on. All right. One. I mean, are we going to get a playoff? He’s looking that way. If you make this, you are automatically on the team. Whoa, man. He makes this. Coming in through the portal, baby. Oh, he dunked it. Oh no, he couldn’t handle the pressure. Oh, you had a chance to join the team and you threw it away. All right. Hey. Hey. We got playoff. Playoff right here. Well, I had a shot to make the Auburn team. You absolutely did. That’s crazy. We’re going to the orange flag. Get one ball each. Closest to the hole wins. I feel like we do a T flip to determine who goes first. Auburn. Beautiful orange. Me. Love this pressure. Oh. Oh, yeah. Oh, baby. Come on. Get some spin. Come on. Wow. I knew it. I knew it. I found something. I I did I found something on the last swing. That’s just That’s what it’s all about. So, what’s the yardage? 81. 81. And I did exactly what coach told me to do. I just want to put that out there. He’s coachable. He’s coachable. He’s a coachable guy. Kind of throwing some round nose in there a little bit, isn’t he? position himself for the office visit. Oh, he didn’t get it there. Get a bounce. No. Congratulations. Thank you. Good job there. Thank you. Just hit on the green. Good try. Well done. Great match. That was great. Good play. Okay, now to the last shot. Holy cow. Good job today. Hey, guys. That was incredible. Great job on the putting. Great job on the up and down game and and great job here at the We could work on this though. Yeah, we got to work on this and we got to work on the up and down. Yeah. Yeah. You know, we got better contact. Thank you. Good stuff. That was so much fun, guys. So much fun. But we’re not done. We’re not done. What’s your guys’ final thoughts or just overall thoughts of the day and the try out and how they did? Oh, I thought it was it was a wonderful day. I mean, we had great weather. These guys were really focused. They were they were purposeful in their practice. I thought they were they went out there and they grinded it out. And I look forward to sitting down with them and talking about their results. They both have more game than I thought they would. So, I was very impressed with how they uh performed and um they have great character, too. So, it was a lot of fun being around those guys for the day. Hey guys, this is tuh. Welcome in. Yeah, have a seat. Welcome. I I thought you guys did a great job. I thought uh I was very impressed. Your high character. Um your focus, your intent was awesome. You listened. You went out there and did the best you could. We got to get better in some areas. Sure do. What do you think those areas are? You need to get better around the greens a little bit. you know, we got to pitch it a little bit better, chip it a little bit better. We got to get our wedge game better, you know, so when we get back home, that’s where we got to hit, you know, hit the ground running. I was impressed with the driver. Yeah. You guys had speed and let’s work like crazy at 110 and in, let’s see how much better you can get. Okay. So, if you had to rank like the characteristics of a golfer that you’re looking for. Yeah. Where would the main characteristics lie? Well, character. Okay. Integrity. Um, somebody’s going to be a great representation of this program, this university. Um, then the skill set, right? We need a guy that can hit it, can uh control his emotions, you know, and a guy that can drive it pretty well and and somebody that uh wants to get better and learn, especially around the greens. Yeah. Well, I will say one thing I really like other than it just being amazing is the culture of faith and family and integrity. I think that’s really cool. Something I would want to be a part of. Well, it’s just like I tell all the kids, I mean, faith and family is number one in your life, and you can never replace that. Remember, call your mom when you leave here, okay? Call your mom, tell your love, tell her everything you’ve done for her. Be very grateful for that. Um, two is education. Three is golf. And I realize two and three are tight for a lot of kids, you know, but nothing ever replaces number one. That’s your faith and your family. I love that. I love that. Most important part. But call your mom. All right. Well, call your parents. Coach, we’ve gone through there’s obviously some things we need to improve on and it’s not looking too hot. He’s got he got a negative vibe. Yeah. What’s up with that? Let’s hear it. Let’s hear it out. We need the final. What’s the final conclusion? The final conclusion is this. You guys should come back in a year after you spent a lot of time on 110 yards in and let’s do this again. Open invitation for one more year work. Let’s get back at it. Let’s see if you’re good enough next year. I love it. Okay. That’s okay to hear. Thank you, coach. Appreciate Eagle, guys. Eagle, baby. Good job. All right. Nice. Thank you, coach. Thanks for being in the video. We appreciate it. The shot you hit was good out of the bunker. So, we’re going to try to get to your level. Hey, yours. Let’s come back next year. Hopefully, you guys learned something, enjoyed, and uh this place is absolutely unbelievable. So, all the recruits, coach, is the email open. Uh hopefully you guys did enjoy this. What's with all the D1 bs? Do you wish you were in college playing golf? I don't get it.
Golf starts at 12:32
1:51 = 100% CAP lol. We can tell justoff physicality these guys not ready lol The fact is they ARE NOT ready for D1. But this part is the politically YT correct response lol 41:00 hahahaha
Love this series. Keep it up boys
Ashton was pushing off his toes on the pitch shark, you gotta drive with your heals, idk why the coaches didn’t tell him that
War Eagle!
There's only 1 spot boys so we're gonna have tryouts.
Walking around trophy room with bags on got me nervous LOL
This is a good series because these college coaches are inspiring, great motivators and talkers and that is what YouTube videos need.
These college tryout series is sooooooo good
Took a golf elective on their driving range in 2023 while i was in school, war eagle!
Not sure if it’s just me, but I can’t get past the welcome with the bags on the mantle before the video crashes out every time on Roku, FYI.
One of you looks like Koivun. Shoild be enough
Do a part 2 pls.
Damn y’all suck wtf is this video

These coaches seem like they would be great to play for!
Nick Clinard is a top level guy.
Where can I get the head coach's navy quarter zip pullover?
What I’m interested in is the play and practice history of the team members! Do a vid on what and how they did to “make the team”.
Do Georgia tech next
This was a sick video. Glad I found it. You both seem like good dudes and are pretty funny. The end telling the coach to come back in a year after that bunker shot had me laughing good.
Coach was spitting facts:
“Culture drives behaviors, behaviors drive habits, habits create your destiny”
Hope all the young guys out there listen to this.
As an Auburn grad, it makes me proud to see such great representation of our program. Coach Clinard really highlighted many of the things Auburn folks believe in and that's what makes it such a special place in our hearts.
Kind of surprised they didn't have Jackson Kouivun in the video, but guessing he was away at an event or with family.
Thank you guys for doing this. I was entertained for every minute of the video. You've got some serious golf skills and I hope you'll take him up on another attempt next year.
Should start from a junior golf program and work your way up each step. That would be a better series
I want make d1 golf but on resume im a pro golfer ( YouTube tour)
War Eagle 🦅
fun content, but no way this is the actual tryout for a D1 team… this looks more like some big break level stuff. You wouldn't try out for a D1 team like this anyway. They start watching you around sophomore year in HS, maybe even sooner. You can try to walk on a D2 school, but not D1.
Great program, really brings the coaching to real life, a lot of folks would never get this close to a program 👍🏽💪🏽💪🏽
This was a fun one to watch!!!
What a great program. Those coaches seem to be the real deal.
My nephew won Kansas Jr Matchplay twice. Won state 5A Team and Individual titles. Played 4 yrs Div 1 golf. Played 2 yrs Florida mini-tours where 34 yr old insurance salesman whooped up on him. Now a pro at the local CC.
To be a Wes Bryan or Jason Day you gotta be born in a UFO
Other than mobility test I make this team
