Final aspects of the project have now been approved

Councillors on East Riding Council’s planning committee have approved additional plans for a 84 bedroom hotel at a Bridlington golf course. The scale, layout, and access to the hotel were approved over three years ago but the application returned to the committee this month to allow for councillors to iron out some final aspects of the project.
In April 2022, councillors backed plans for the hotel to be constructed at Links Golf Course on Flamborough Road, Sewerby. At the time, the issues of landscaping and the hotel’s appearance were not concluded upon.
The item returned to the planning committee on December 4 where councillors approved officers’ recommendations to give the green light too the outstanding issues. Submitted design plans stated: “Hotel rooms will have views of either the historic coastline, or the immaculately presented golf course, all within a country park setting.”

The plans add: “Because of the site’s prominent setting on the historic North Yorkshire coastline, it has been important to ensure the development hits the right note in terms of design and quality of finish. As well as this, the setting within the immediate context of the golf course needs to ensure the development has its own identity, but be carefully considered to sit comfortably alongside the existing clubhouse.”

Liberal Democrat Councillors Jayne Phoenix and Thomas Robson, who both represent the Bridlington North ward where is the site is, moved and seconded the approval of the plans respectively and spoke highly of the plans. Cllr Robson said: “I think it looks a treat.”
Their sentiments were shared by Conservative Cllr Jonathan Bibb. “I believe this will be a major asset to the area,” he said.
