Saw someone do this and started looking for opportunities myself. When the lip is thin and the bunkers are light on sand they’re just firm enough you can use it like a ramp. On days where the sand game just isn’t there I’ve been saved by putter out of the bunker lol
Smart play just didn't quite come off judging the lip of the bunker.
I've gotten up and down hitting a bump and run with a 7 iron in a very firm and wet bunker on a down slope.
It's really not a hard shot if the sand condition allow it.

Putter from a bunker with a negligible lip to a relatively tight pin is a good option for the weekend-golfer. I don't know the player, but I'd say something is seriously going wrong with his confidence to be on the DP World Tour and believing putter is the best option. For a tour player, that was a moderately difficult bunker shot.

So many times I should have putted today instead of chipping or pitching.
Has he played with my dad he swears to using a putter in shallow bunkers. Never seen him not use a putter in these type of bunkers
that's still a good shot from there. that was a lot of beach and just a small patch of green.
