Tiger Woods has transcended sport thanks to his efforts on the golf course, which unfortunately have been few and far between in recent times.

Woods has been heavily impacted by injury in the past few seasons, last appearing on the course at The Open Championship in 2024.

He has managed to take on the inaugural TGL season since then, but that came after just five PGA Tour starts last season.

Woods recently underwent back surgery for the seventh time in his career, which arrived shortly after Achilles tendon surgery.

Tiger Woods found Michael Phelps ‘phenomenal to watch’ in 2007

Fortunately, golf fans have been treated to countless unforgettable moments from the legendary golfer over the years.

His feats include 15 major championship wins and 82 PGA Tour wins, although he was tasked with discussing the feats of another athlete ahead of The Masters in 2007.

Asked back then if he knew about and had met Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, Woods replied: “Have I met him? No.

“I think we all follow… anyone who is a sports fanatic, you are always going to be intrigued by other sportsmen and what they are able to accomplish.

“What he’s done, truly remarkable. Not only is he winning, but he’s also setting records, world records. So it’s phenomenal to watch, and as a sports fan, I’m just as enthusiastic as everybody else to watch other people do it in other sports.”

Like Woods did around 2000 and 2001, Phelps was dominating the swimming world in 2007 when the former was asked about the latter at Augusta National.

With 28 medals in total from his astonishing career, Phelps is widely regarded as the greatest Olympian ever.

Whether Tiger Woods wanted to win The Masters more than any other major

Incidentally, Phelps wasn’t the only athlete that Woods was tasked with discussing at The Masters that year.

It was also put to the golfer that tennis star Roger Federer says at the start of each year that while he wants to win every event, Wimbledon is the title he wants the most.

When asked if that same mantra applied to him with golf’s majors, Woods responded: “No. Mm-hmm. All four.”

The Masters may not be the tournament Woods wanted to win the most, but it is the one at which he has enjoyed the most success.

He’s claimed the prestigious green jacket five times in his career so far, with only Jack Nicklaus (six) boasting more.

Federer meanwhile did indeed enjoy most of his success at Wimbledon, with his eight titles more than any other man.
