The search for the three-peat ended for Scottie Scheffler at the Hero World Challenge as Tiger Woods’ poked fun at one of his shots on Sunday.
Scheffler, the top ranked golfer in the world, finished tied for fourth as Hideki Matsuyama took home the crown in a 20-man field of the PGA Tour’s top stars, but one unfortunate moment stood out from his day.
After Scheffler hit his tee shot on 11, he made a precarious decision to use driver from the fairway with 291 yards to the hole. His golf ball also had a chunk of mud on the front which made the driver an even more risky choice.

The ball ended up hooking left under a small bush, and Scheffler eventually escaped the hole with a bogey. Woods, who was on the broadcast at the time, said that wouldn’t have been his decision, but also didn’t second-guess Scheffler’s skills.
“He’s the number one player in the world, he can do whatever he wants,” said Woods with a smirk.
Woods’ had lumbar disk replacement surgery in October and added that it’s been a long time since he got to see the fellow pros.
“I’ve been out for so long so it’s nice to catch up with these guys,” added the Hero World Challenge tournament host and 15-time major champion.

The finish in the Bahamas won’t dampen Scheffler’s successful 2025 season, in which he won the PGA Championship and Open Championship, as he looks to complete the career grand slam and add more majors to his resume in 2026.
“I would say this feels more to me like the start of the year than the end of the year,” said Scheffler following the final round.

“You know, I took a pretty good break after the Ryder Cup. It had been another long season, and with the season for me starting a couple weeks later this year with no Maui, I pushed it a little bit further up to this event as well, so I got a good break.
“It’s nice to come down here, kind of gauge where I’m at.
“Like I said, very optimistic, did a lot of good things.
“I definitely felt like some of the stuff I’ve been working on the last few weeks I saw some progress here, and the stuff I was focused on in the offseason, definitely saw some progress here as well. Good place to be.”
