Check out my “Every Way to Shallow” course on @Skillestapp for more.

Internal rotation of the lead shoulder is a big piece in moving the shaft so that the clubhead trails the body’s rotation.

How to train it?

🏌🏽Swinging with only your lead arm, make a backswing that goes no farther than lead arm parallel to the ground.

🔑 When transitioning from backswing to downswing, feel the bicep rotate toward your chest, so that it is pointing less ⬆️ and more ⬅️

🌪️ Keep turning through the shot

Remember, when the shaft shallows, the face opens. So you need to be mindful of that element and apply a torque on the grip accordingly.

Look at what I’m doing. Look up here at the shoulder. See how that biceps twisting towards the front of my body? That’s internal rotation of the lead shoulder. Look how you moves the whole unit. Right? That’s this piece. Okay? That moves the shoulder external. Everything twists towards the back of my body. That’s such a big piece for those of you who pull down on the handle because if I get up to the top and I put too much intentional force downwards on that handle, which way do you think that shoulder is rotating? Is it rotating this way or that way? That way. Right. Where’s the club going if I do that? Steeper. Right out in front. Now I got to pull up on the handle. Get that club head down. Right. So, what I want you to do to feel this, let’s just do some left arm only reps. Let’s work it up to just go to lead arm parallel. And let’s move this bicep inward as we rotate. See that? Okay. We’re going to twist this shoulder inwards. You may feel like that shoulder almost lifts a little bit while you do it. not lifts cuz you tilt, but like it raises up and you lose a little pressure in that left armpit. See that? Now, a lot of you are going to shank it cuz you’re going to do this and leave this club face wide open. So, we need to apply a little torque on that grip. Now, the thing’s going to line up. And remember, with any drill, you’re not doing it until you can get it right. You’re doing it until you can’t get it wrong. So go do that.

  1. this is the best information I've ever received for the golf swing. Liked and subscribed.. I think i have a new golf coach…can i finally break 80 ??

  2. There are 2 and only two ways to shallow the shaft
    1. Pronation of the lead forearm( palm facing more down) in the backswing
    2. External rotation of the trail shoulder during the transition and downswing resulting in the trail elbow rotating more forward
    OR a combination of both
While both will shallow he shaft , both actions will also open the clubface , so golfers need to take actions that will close the clubface .This is the reverse motorcycle drill that many have discussed and is emphasized with the “Hackmotion “
    measuring aid

  3. Interesting. I've been hooking it like crazy. This might just solve it.

I like "You're not it until you can get it right. You're doing it until can't get it wrong "

  4. What a weird thing to think about and what a useless drill. You think Tiger ever was out there doing this weird drill?

  5. “You’re not doing it until you get it right. You’re doing it until you can’t get it wrong”

Easily one of the greatest quotes I’ve ever heard

  6. The other thing people need to do when learning this is to keep rotating your body through the strike. Most people are so used to stalling out and flipping that this will be such a drastic change for them.

  7. Good advice for an upright, 2 plane swinger (Tom Watson, Bubba Watson, Justin Thomas). Disastrous notion for a rounded, flatter 1 plane swing (Kuchar, Westwood, Hogan, Snead, Player). Tips typically work for some segment of players, but we all need to ID our basic swing shape and what applies & what doesn't to that particular style.

  8. First time I’ve seen a reasonable tip on shallowing the club.. as someone whose a 2 but is too steep with the irons, I will be trying this soon
