Fleetwood & Rose vs DeChambeau & Griffin | Friday Four-Balls | 2025 Ryder Cup
[Applause] Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please. Good afternoon and welcome to the first day of the 45th Rder Cup. This is match number two, a fourball match between the European team represented by Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose [Applause] against the United States of America team represented by Ben Griffin and Bryson D. Shambo accompanied by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Jim Richardson Europe, Justin Rose making the announcements down there on the first heat for these afternoon four balls. And it is going to be Justin Rose to lead off by Bob McIntyre. They had a successful run, didn’t they, in the four balls at Marco Simone. He’s got a 54 and1 record overall in four ball play in the RDER Cup. The elder statesman. I don’t think he likes that mantle actually, but he is the elder statesman of the European team. 45 years young. [Applause] swing hasn’t changed much in years. It’s about as solid as it gets. I think it’s that keeps him coming back to keep him working so hard. [Applause] Two and a half points from a possible five is Tommy’s four ball record. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] left. [Applause] This is fine that front. Ben, no problem there. Now on the team representing the United States of America, Bryson Dambo. Look at that. And he’s actually turning to the crowd to try and get a little more energy from them. He got pretty close this morning. It’s a little bit warmer now. Oh, he can fly off the green. He’s loose now. He’s winding up. Little bit of recoil. Looks like a good line. Yeah, much like this morning. Just right down the middle of the fairway. Driver was a weapon for him this morning. He was great. So, making his Rder Cup debut, Ben Griffin, the age of 29, two-time winner this season, one of those in the uh the pairs competition in New Orleans. He didn’t hold back either, did he? Yeah. Picked up that te rather quickly. Great drive, middle of the fairway. Relatively easy hole for for the RDER Cup, but uh they never feel that easy when it’s your first hole ever in the RDER Cup. Uh Fleetwood [Applause] That would have looked good to him. Only 10 ft. It’s not exactly bad. Straight up the green. Ben Griffin next to play from the fairway. Just a little flip wedge. Probably wants to land about 3 ft short of the flag. That’s a little too short. Boy, if you land any that front edge, it’s just going to stick. It’s not going to skip at all. [Applause] What a warrior this man is. 45 years of age. He probably feels 20 out there right now. Oh, he just clip clipped it right off the ground there. Wow. Little unlucky. [Applause] And Shamber get this one dancing around the hole. Well, he knows exactly how far he’s got to go. He’s paced it twice. Just picking the shot’s not easy, right? Where are you going to land it? How’s it going to react? Do you want to hit it high or low? You got all the options available to you. Kind of a stock kind of pitch. Well done. Just 6 ft past the hole. And Griffin for birdie at the first. Over to the first again or the first green I should say and Tommy Fleetwood for a birdie. Yep, that’ll do. Got a little read from Ben there. So, got a little help. Over to you, Bryson. only birded it this morning to win. This is to tie the hole. Shouldn’t be too much in it. Very nice tied hole. Now go off to the second. It all looks a little bit sort of rigid, doesn’t it? When he parts Bryson to Shambo, but it’s very effective. Yeah, he very much locks it in, right? He kind of gets I guess stiff is the right word, but it’s it’s very vertical. It’s very geometric in his putting, right? To be consistent with it, right? Putting is all about consistency and delivering the putter the same every single time. So, he does a really good actually really good job of that. He’s he’s a very solid putter. The Shambo looking to get this one in tight at the second. [Applause] Oh, that was a big mistake from Bryson there. Very accessible pin there to trying to hit it right and spin it in. Dambo long left on two. Nicely played. Not easy. Justin Rose at the par three third. Oh, it’s gone left. [Applause] Long left but still going. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the honor in our team. Tommy Fleetwood. [Music] Is that on the left as well? She is. I think the the wind must be a bit stronger up there than what the guys are cuz a lot of these shots are moving quite a lot like right to left. You know, they’re quite straight ball fighters, these guys, too. Yeah. No movement at all on the flag. Upsteps to Shambo. Good shot there. Both players missed it left. He isn’t going to miss it left. [Applause] Guarantees the three. [Applause] Ben Griffin last to go here. Always good to try and get two balls in play. Whoa. A little bit of a bailout, but it’s not too bad there. Tommy Fleetwood at the uh the third par three from the sand. Not too bad. That was a great shot off that ups slope. Shambo is for a win at the third for the United States. [Applause] [Applause] That is conceded. So that’s a half matched tide to Fleetwood at the par five fourth [Applause] high cut in well left there. That’s fine. That’s absolutely fine. Par five there in two like Okay, boys. Come on, man. Justin Rose here. 190 yards. What a drive he’s hit up there. You could see he lined the ball up as well when he had the preferred lie. He likes to do that. He’s lined the ball up to where he’s aiming. You can see it getting his stance off that nice and square. Likes that thing. Oh, right over the top of the flag. A little long. What a beautiful shot. Straight over the top of the pin. Comes alive in this tournament, doesn’t he? Yeah. Yeah. He’s a wonderful man. Wonderful team man. So, Europe in good shape. Here’s D Shambo. from four yds closer. Get in the hole. Hates it. Oh, I don’t know why. Feed back down a little bit. That’s the miss. That’s a good shot. It’s a great shot. Really high expectations. Here’s Ben Griffin. [Music] Beautiful. Lovely touch from the American rookie. I’ll settle him down a little bit. He’s not been quite right. Tommy Fleetwood for Eagle. It’s not to win the hole. So Dejambo’s still going to put after him. It’s not far away. Ooh, that was so close. Great effort from Tommy. [Music] You got to think that those two shots are will free these guys up to have a go up the hill. Probably an easier putt. And this is for Eagle, but as you see, it’s not to win the hole. So Europe still have another one after this. Justin will maybe get a little hand on the on the pace here as well. [Music] Oh De Shambo does like an eagle. He makes a lot of them. Not this time. It’s right in the middle too. Bartner had the four. Illfield couldn’t possibly leave that short. He did. Justin Rose to win the hole. Get a good idea of the pace from Dambo. I think matching. Yep. Half and 34. Here we go. Match tied. Fleetwood to the fifth. Plenty of room around the pin and a kind shunt forward. Nice second there from the Englishman. Can see that was the shot he was trying gripping down. Sonoff follow through. Just run up the green Shambo. [Applause] Excellent response from Bryson. Unique character, unique swing. [Applause] Fifth hole. Bryson Dshambo has this putt to win the hole and to go up in match two. Yeah, absolutely. Couple of missed opportunities from Europe but threaten the hole. This is very makeable. Just slightly slippery down the hill, Dom, but Biden his time waiting for his chance. There’s just Shambo. Just a subtle double breaker actually. Overall, not a huge amount in this. [Applause] He’s found it. The fin the fist pump. Getting the crowd going and they take the advantage over Fleetwood and Rose as they walk to the sixth. 16 to Shambo. My goodness. Can he drive the green here or close to the green? Oh boy. I think that’s the green side bunker. Oh, Bryson. He smashed it all the way to here. Had the power. Has he got the soft touch around the greens? He surely has. Just a drive and a flick there, David. 406 yds. Unreal, isn’t it? Rose up with the metal wood. Yes, the play. It’s the play. He’s up against the collar. He’s got about a yard of that fringe we talked about. It’s slightly thicker than normal. So, let’s have this one not top sping in a chance. No, hard shot that the fringes are strangely long, aren’t they? The ball is not running through it at all. [Applause] Meanwhile, the Shambo is to go two up as well in his match. Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear. The sixth hole is causing a lot of problems. We had it with 11 today this morning when lots of guys were struggling. The six seems to be the one this this afternoon that they’re they can’t quite get a grasp of the the line or the pace. Griffin on seven. [Music] He’s tracking. He’s tracking Ben Griffin. bringing the energy. What a moment for one of the four American rookies. What a season he’s having [Applause] for the half. Oh, you whip. Oh, Justin Rose right back at you. What a response. There is life in the old dog yet. Right in front of the captain as well. There you go, boss. That’s why I’m here. Playing 10 downhill, 223 round about the 200 mark. Pin’s almost not on the green here. Tucked on that right side. Looks good. Is it going to hold the smoke? I don’t think it is. Yeah, you really need to drop on a good number here. Nice solid shot with a perfect yardage in between. Not so easy to this back pin. Should start to enjoy this now well into this round. That didn’t sound at all good. Look out on the right in the crowd. Oh, it’s even right the crowd. Good heavens. Worst shot we’ve seen today. [Music] Everybody’s okay, which is good news. And half a chance for Rose to steal a march on his opponents here. And very much a crosswind. So looking through the middle of this green is a huge target. It doesn’t look that big, but when you get down there, it feels twice the size it is from the tea. The breeze just drifted towards that right side. [Music] Looks ex for line. It was Will he give Bryson the read or will he be given the line? Well, there’s your answer. [Applause] Flickwood last to go here at eight. driving. That’s tracking. That’s tracking from Tommy. Very good to get on the back section. Yeah, be happy with that. High up in the hillside. Don’t suppose he’d have practiced one from up here. Wow. I’d say that’s a new wedge. Surprised Fleetwood is not going first here. Can play out of turn in the RDER Cup. You surprised, Anthony? No, not really. I think he wants to have a little look at Fleetwood’s putt. So, get this one stoned here cuz it’s quite a good chance from behind the hole. The is quite slow in the hole. I was about to say the Shambo is going to run in there. I’m sure we’ll learn an awful lot from that. Over to eight to Shambo. He’s had a little teach from Justin Rose. Yeah, he certainly gave the game away a little bit, but I think it was worth playing that way round for me. It’s not really a puddle you would expect to hold. It’s so slow and as we saw just cambering off to the right, but so aggressive, you’d expect this to threaten. Griffin once more just a bit of a one or two wobbles. It’s not really giving Bryson much help. Little bit of helping breeze all of a sudden. How does that go into the computer through the shadow? He’s hit it much firmer, hasn’t he? And it still hasn’t got there. Never looked like it to be honest with you from down there for price. Quite a steep slope. So hard to make yourself hit it. Up to eight again, I should say. And this time it’s Fleetwood. This is to win the hole. Yeah. Quick to pick up the Americans ball. Wanted him out the way to concentrate. This is lacking pace. Oh my Adams. again. We’ve seen it a few times, haven’t we? Coming out of the fringe. Fringe. Yeah. Strangely long. It’s unusual. Two chances. Rose first. Man, the pressure piles onto Fleetwood’s shoulders. Nothing worse in match play golf than a sloppy bogey when you’ve got four balls in play. Now, a little moment here for Tommy. [Music] Surely they can’t both reaper, David. Surely. But you’re right. Just shows you the value of Rose being a couple of feet closer. Indeed, actually. Fleetwood could have been so much more aggressive now. The pressure’s been invited back. Tricky little one. This it will just move a little, but keep the pace up just on that right half. Yeah, just inside the hole. We fancy. Bryson Tambo moves into position. No mistake from Tommy Fleetwood, the FedEx Cup champion. The Americans retain the advantage, but it’s one and not two. Front flag 193. Fleetwood ball just slightly above. So maybe just trying to hold this up a little bit. Try and feel like it’s a fade, but in reality it’s pretty straight. Hates it. Hates it. Must be pulled left. Yeah, there it is. He was a long way back there, Tommy. Off that ball above his feet. Difficult shot. Next one won’t be easy either. [Applause] Similar sort of thing for Griffin really. Ball slightly above, more of a down slow. 189 hard actually. He’s barely found the club face so far this afternoon. Oh yeah. All right. [Applause] Here’s Bryson Dambo looking upwards. Left pin right wind. Nice combo. Couldn’t quite bring it back all the way, but it’s a a short second for the big man. The shambo across the slope. Not a whole heap. Hair down the hill. Think he fancies this, you know. [Applause] Look good halfway. It looked good halfway for Bryson. This game’s going to go all the way, I think, today. up to nine and this is Justin Rose arrow straight second shot and this is what’s required here just a hair down the hill off the the front camber as it just feeds towards the hole Tommy had a look as well but right now it’s almost two against one so Europe can really make an effort here it was a good puck wasn’t it graze the edge of the hole [Applause] 210 Tommy Fleetwood second. Yeah, long path for this 10th hole. Five iron for Tommy pausing holding that finish eyeing it up and down. And that’s why great shot from Fleetwood. Great distance control there. Five iron pin high. Beautiful crosswind. Such a great iron player. Dambo seven iron. We’re hearing drawing into the pin. It’s a bit too much juice there for Bryson. to the 10th. D Shambo for Birdie. Another one that just doesn’t come back. Just waiting for it to go right. Waiting for it. So is he. Can’t believe it. They’re so flat in places these greens. Yeah, hard putt to read for Dambo. Baffled him. This much simpler. Rose is even easier. This is right edge. Hair down the hill. Two. Seriously good chances. They’re not turning much Wally, are they? These greens. No, they’re uh they’re causing one or two problems. Sometimes when there’s not a lot of movement, you’re looking for too much. These two can catch fire though. Not happy. Oh, that’s not a great pop. Just straight through the bottom. Pace wrong. Apart from pace and line, it was very good that from Tommy. How have the crowd been, Wally? Are they getting a bit boisterous? Yeah, this is the quiet part of the course here really. 10 green and even now when they back off you get a little bit of murmuring but it’s just the odd one or two. They don’t seem to be too bothered. Right side of the line though at the moment. Yeah. Yeah. One or two a little bit vicious should we say but overall they’re doing their best. Europe seem to be completely in control of their emotions. They’re having to wait a lot of times to to deal with that noise. It doesn’t seem to be bothering them. They’ve obviously been practicing that and they play all around the world. Just a hair up the hill for Justin. Very makeable. [Applause] Chance gone there. Maybe that one did. Half a chance. Did have quite a bit of swing on it that one, didn’t it? Yeah, it did. More than I thought. [Applause] tied in force. I think this is where the experience just comes in though for Rose and Fleet. They’re just going to hang around. There’s no just no panic. Yeah, just a gap wedge for Fleetwood. Ro sitting okay in the left rough, but the angle is good for him. But this is prime real estate for the Englishman to this front right flag trying to get this zip in maybe just past it. That’s one of the spinnier greens 11 on this course. He’s unlucky there. You could you could hear him telling Finn he was going to take a little bit off it trying to just curtail the spin. There still a good chance for BY3. [Music] What did you want? As I mentioned, Rose, the angle is good. There’s more helping on this angle as F just throws a bit of grass up. Same pre-shot every shot regardless of the light. And just a note that America changed their batting order on the 10th T. He’s been griffin all day and Bryson has decided to change and has definitely gone off first. He’s trying to lead by example. Not getting much help from his partner. [Applause] This is on it. Certainly is from Rosie. Two chances for Europe. Griffin. Only Griffin’s second fairway in my count. Going straight at this. [Applause] My goodness, that’s got some spin on it. And Griffin. Yeah, he plays a lot of spin, Jamie. He’s had no consistency in the ball flight today. He looks awkward out here. Pretty steep that. So So Bryson’s taken the number one role here, Anthony, then. Yeah, he’s I think he has to. His partner’s been all over the show and this man’s played beautifully. Really hasn’t hold much. Ball’s just on the edge of the fairway. Big break. This should be no further than 12 ft. This is pretty simple. It’s gone really high. Oo, [Applause] [Music] that’s just nestled right up against the the collar of the the rough and the fringe. The shambo up against the collar. Yeah, I prefer a little belly wedge here. This is difficult. That was a real stabby little thing. That was hard. Wrong shot for me. I agree, Anthony. I agree. This at 11 Griffin. Yeah, for par. Struggling USA here to make a par with rows in tight. I mean sand irons into this green. That’s all it is. Just gap wedges. Sand irons. Call them what you like. Five. Dambo struggling. Wally called it. This green spins a lot and they just didn’t adapt. Got to play this off one. Stevie, what’s Tommy going to do? He’s got the putter out. Awol absolutely the play these fringes are quite fluffy. It’s very hard to get the ball rolling out how you want it but within rows pretty straight from six feet should definitely not be struggling to get to the hole just early right to left and almost pushing to the right. It should give Justin a little bit of a and that match all of a sudden that’ll do us is back to all square tied. So, America up in one, Europe up in two. That match tied. The pendulum swings once again as it does in the RDER Cup. Captain Donald over there. He liked that wiped a bit of red off the off the leaderboard. Fleetwood 12. 230 for Tommy giving up about 15 to 20. Playing long 12 today. Hit some great irons. That is a great bit of luck there by Tommy. Wow. the outcome IQ to uh win the match. AI powered by Cap Gemini. Pretty tight, isn’t it? Well, there’s the difference if the United States were to win this hole. And the agentic AI system from Cap Gemini is bringing an added dimension to how we can see and enjoy the match with real time probability updates and historical trends. All the matches, all the Rder Cup matches back to 1985, I think. in every player in the last 50 tournaments. An awful lot of data goes in there. Very clever algorithms. [Applause] 10 yards closer from the far right hand corner at 12th Fairway Rose 220. And he back up his playing partner trying to hold one off there. Justin with a four iron. and just pulled in a little bit. That is a long downhill putt. I think Tommy will be pleasantly surprised when he actually gets up there. He probably can’t see where his balls ended up. He’s very He’s very close to the pin. 187 for Griffin in the left rough. They were talking about just cutting the corner and accepting being in the rough. I like it too. Safe play there into the middle of into the middle of the green by Griffin. Not great that Stevie, is it? No, he’s got to be more aggressive on that angle, Wally. Like you say, a slope eight iron leaving himself 25 ft. Got to be more aggressive. Not what Bryson’s looking for in a partner that three yards closer. 184. He’ll be sending this straight at it. He knows he’s in a match. Rose and Fleetwood are just starting to get going here. Not sure he doesn’t like it. Oh, that’s a poor shot as well. Very poor. Tommy’s looking the favorite here now. Bryson Dambo for Birdie back at 12. [Music] A little bit left for his par to 12 once again this time. Griffin for birdie. [Music] Hasn’t happened for him so far on debut. USA conceded for four. Rose should go first here and he will go first to give Fleet with the line. Absolutely the right thing to do. America not happy nor are the fans. He’s asked to give it. He’s given the conceded it. Interesting. There you go. We have a game on our hands, gentlemen. Quite right, too. [Applause] All I’d say about Tommy’s putt should be right to left, but the grain on the fringe is going the other way. It’s pushing the ball right. So, this makes this quite a difficult putt to hold. [Applause] Remember, this is to win the hole and for Europeans to seize the advantage in this match. [Music] Yeah, they’ve been threatening all day really. They’ve had some chances. [Applause] [Music] Not bad. Just didn’t quite hold it line, did it? Couple of layups for Europe. 92 and 85 left for Rose and Fleetwood. Nasty little front flag. They can’t really see the bottom of the flag because of the bunker just short of this green. So Justin’s on the walk. A lot of dead ground. Good 15 or 20 over that bunker. Just really throwing out your eye. A gorgeous shot. So these aren’t easy, but it’s been so long on the range this week practicing darling in under 100 yards. Play no like or anything. No. If there’s anything, there’s a draft off the right, but the trees are blocking it. Yeah. Come on. Yeah, he’s beaming at the moment. Fooch smile from ear to ear. He’s really enjoying this. It’s an interesting atmosphere, but they just seem to be embracing it, which is exactly right towards the sun, just inside the shadows. Just a fraction for Rose throwing the eye out. connection. Not quite as he wanted, but the result is a good one. Maybe just a groove low, quite as much spin as he was hoping. Half a dozen yards nearer. Same sort of deal. Part of his game fleet, but it’s improved so much. The ball fly has dropped a little bit. It’s more direct. Doesn’t quite have so much spin. And that’s what’s needed here. This needs the spin. [Applause] He got some just about the right amount. [Applause] [Music] That’s a nice little hammer and egg situation, isn’t it? Ram in trouble. Is Ben Griffin who’s not had a great day so far? That lie looks very fluffy, doesn’t it? Going to have to really judge it. Well, well, looks like he did. Really well played. Nice. I think that’s going to help Deso get the green light and be super aggressive. This feels like the match at the afternoon session is going to pivot on. Well, here is Bryson. Buried awkward shot, but his partner’s finally in close. A little bit of a lip on the front of this green. going over that lip. He’s belted this [Music] one to the 13th and Shamber with a birdie butt. It’s a tricky one, Dom. Cambering sort of across the slope through multiple shadows. Quite a hard one to sort of compute line and pace here. Slightly helping maybe going down the hill because he can almost drop it in the left hand side. [Music] 13 Rose for Birdie. I get the feeling that either he or Tommy is going to have to hole. And it’s Justin. Very nice. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Oh, that experience. Up to the challenge. He’s really are. Boy, all of a sudden, this putt just got a few feet longer, didn’t it? Mhm. He’s a good putter though, isn’t he? Rattled in. Match stays tight. Firmly into the spirit of things. Griffin having the time of his life. Good atmosphere down there, Anthony. It’s the best Howler. It really is. Four groups congregated round four or five holes and it’s a great finish from 14 in as well. There’s some great places to sit. 161 for Rose. [Music] Ah, easy. [Applause] Same deal for Fleetwood. Just keep the ball flight down, which he’s done. Well done. Well done. Oh, perfect from the start, didn’t it? Bryson Dambo over the valley at 14. Yeah, just a nine iron trying to almost draw this. I think he is ball way back in his stance trying to start it right turn overworking that howler possibly. So pushing almost almost over complicating things with a short iron. [Music] Had a couple important buries today, but that’s been it for Ben Griffinson. Something has to go his way soon. I would imagine he’s too good a player to be a bit part player in this. [Music] That looks like a super line. Oh no, now it’s fearing. Oh. Oh, and now it is not good. Downs slope. No room. Nothing from there. Ben Griffin from the bunker at 14. Oh wow, that was well played. Couldn’t imagine that it would stop short of that flag. [Applause] The Shambar up it comes. [Applause] [Music] What a fine effort. [Applause] And that means that Tommy Fleetwood after that wonderful T-shot here has a chance to win the hole which he takes and Europe go up in that second match. [Applause] Big moment in the context of today I fear aggressive swing. Great for distance. That’s an excellent second from Tommy. 164 yds for Justin Rose. Oh, right over the flag. 15 ft past the the hole. Heck of a shot. Really aggressive. Oh, mistake. Bad mistake from Dashambo. There’s not many places on this course you don’t want to miss. That’s one of them. Fleewood across the green. Quite a bit of uh swing on this one. Yeah, it’s quicked on [Applause] from about now it will move. [Applause] We are into uh quite an important passage of play here. It looks like the top match is going to go the European way. The US already have that third match, but the other two anything could still happen. Been an interesting day. Now this I think should this should drop left at the end but Ho’s almost sort of looking left or right against the hill which does sort of confuse the issue. Will it keep turning? That’s the question. That was Rory Mackoy bottom right putting for birdie. Remember that camp is in close there. Rose misses the birdie. So that hole is halved. The Europeans will remain one up with three holes to play in that game. Dasha on the tea at 16. [Music] Big drive. Actually a little fade on this one. Left side. Oh, got it popped up there. Got a great lie. Good angle into this hole. It’s quite the scene, isn’t it? Down in this area. Holes one and then 15 through 18. Fleetwood and his second into 16. Nine iron trying to hit it into this camber at 16. It’s actually quite a good angle with a good line. That’s an excellent shot. Slightly off with the distance, but solid once again from Fleetwood. Griffin got a sneaky feeling this fella’s going to do something special in a minute. He’s hit some of his worst shots he’s ever had, but huge long putt for a half and a good wedging close for a half. There’s something still in this game for Ben Griffin here. Perfect yardage. Just a nine iron. Just a nice one. [Applause] It’s good, but you not great. And great is what they need right now. Great is what they need. It feels like that group is just the US is just holding on sort of for dear life. are kind of waiting for something magical to happen. [Applause] Yeah, that’s exactly right. Humongous scoreboard behind this screen if you didn’t know where you were. Nice line for Rose. Just a wedge. [Applause] [Music] Oh, this will get better. A little camber in on 16. So, two chances for the Europeans there Shambo away in the left rough. Yeah, and always the furthest. That’s always going to be the case. Super angle. Can he take advantage of it in the late afternoon sun? Staring it down. Good shot. Good shot. [Applause] Let’s go ahead to 16 on the birdie bar for Justin Rose. Good effort. That was a good puck. That’s too hard, huh? Just that was a really good puck. Birded the first. Nothing since for Burns. Looking down over the 16th. Ben Griffin. Well, you said you were expecting him to do something. Maybe it’ll be here. Anthony. Yeah, if I keep saying it, it might happen. Hard putt. Justin Rose probably had the easiest putt being below putting back up the hill. This is difficult. Big right to left break for Griffin. Pully three, four feet right to left. [Music] Got it out there. Did he get enough? Oh, wow. That was a great putt. Mhm. It’s a great putt. once again to 16 which comes back towards the 15th T and this time it’s Tommy Fleetwood for Birdie. Similar sort of thing to Griffin but maybe just a little bit more under the hill. So slightly less break and maybe possibly be slightly more aggressive with this. Still moving tons towards the end. It’s moving towards the bottom of the hole. What a pat from Fleetwood. [Applause] That’s a great time to do it as well, isn’t it? So, the pressure moves to Dshambo. This to tie the hole. Now, just on repeat. Very similar sort of thing to Fleetwood maybe again just slightly further down the hill. So this will be slightly slower but once more turning mightily off his right hand side. Bryson hasn’t made a birdie since the fifth hole. Got to have it. I mean my gosh you have to have it right now. Oh my goodness. I mean, it’s really a disaster for the US to have Sheffler and Dambo to go 0 and2 today. I mean, really unexpected. I mean, that’s it’s a killer. [Applause] [Music] 217 Rose 174 for Rosie doesn’t actually play as much uphill as we initially thought this two up with two to play you know what that means get this in tight we can go home [Applause] bounce not his best effort But he can make three from there without too much drama. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Well, not spectacular, but safe. Opens the door just a little. That’s quite the scene, isn’t it? Around the 17th hole. They’re used to it by now and it’s a lot of people to play in front of to find your very best and that’s what Griffin needs here. Yeah. So incredible how they’re able to concentrate through this noise, through this stress and pressure. Also a good looking swing. He’s due to something magical. Get up. Finally a good spot below the hole there. That is the best place to putt from right there. So hopefully that gave a lot of information to Bryson and he can kind of do his calculations and uh make a good swing here. US needs it in the worst way. What has Bryson got left for us? One less for the superstar. [Applause] Fantastic line. Big time shot. Mhm. [Applause] So, uh, still could be what, two and a half, one and a half in favor of the United States here potentially. Yeah, there’s no doubt if you can close out your match before you stand on that 15th TE, that’s the way to do it because this is like the coliseum. The stress levels and the excitement just builds. Very cool. Wonder if Rose will be chipping or putting. Chipping it is. Yeah, he’s been backwards and forwards to the bags a couple of times times today. And once more, I just think with the fringes having a little bit more grass, you can be a little bit more aggressive when you do sort of back foot these and just chip them out, push them down the hill, there’s a bit of movement on this. Clearly in between clubs to be this long off the tea at 17. So, can he feel this one down that left side? [Applause] not to be Fleetwood. This is a part to win the match, Anthony. Yeah, a tough one at that. Right to left, up and over the brow down the hill. an extended version of what he’s just told at 16. Actually, not going to get there, is it? By some distance. [Music] [Applause] Ben Griffin at 17. That was to win the hole. Remember Dambo? You can see his marker there at the top of the pictures. He’s got a an excellent look at it. It’s his moment, isn’t it? Coming up, Bryson. Mhm. Four and three loss this morning. This is the moment. All eyes on him, including half his team. Yeah, just to just to keep this match going. Heck of a shot, but have to do that a few more times. actually couldn’t see a lot in this. But what was interesting was walking up and looking at the pup. The line that he has on the ball was exactly left of center. Very unusual, which I think is the line. Just keep the pace up. Just about, wasn’t it? Just about. And they keep it alive. They will go to the 18th. They need something unexpectedly good to happen right now. You know, they’re just they’re just hanging on for dear life. What a wait. Ben Griffin Anthony. Yeah, it’s interesting how they’re swip swapping over all the way through this back nine. So hard to hear out here at the minute. Now look full twirl on that one. Right down the pipe [Music] back to 18 and the shambo looking to launch one off that elevated T. Such an inviting T-shot but it’s not that wide down the bottom of this hill at 18. Starts right as it coming back. [Applause] lie dependent might not be so bad. The camera angle, however, might be deceptive. Yeah, it’s a must find this fairway. Loves it. Picks the tea straight up. That’ll do. Yeah, quite right, Anthony. That’s a settler for Fleetwood as well. Did the job. First man on the tea. Found the fairway. Tommy after Rosie just piped it down the middle, not even watching it. Te’s in his pocket and he’s down the fairway. Well, that match still in the balance. So is the bottom match up to 18 Fleetwood and backed off it once. So much noise around this green trying to pop this in low. Take some spin off it. It’s on top of the ridge. Oh, it’s a pear for man. Exceptional from Fleetwood. [Applause] Over to 18. Justin Rose this time. See Fleetwood’s ball in close and 98. He won’t know that, but he’ll know it’s reasonably close. What an advantage having your shots in first into this final hole. Just a little pitch. Can he find a worldy a little bit of spin? It’s not quite, but it’s good. appreciated by his European teammates. Griffin in the fairway to Shambo away in that right hand rough just three yards closer. Just a note, Shambo’s got a shot. He’s got a lie. It’s not the greatest of angles, but this is the shot. This is certainly his game, Griffin. This is needed here. The two really in tight. [Music] [Applause] It’s an excellent effort. Mhm. It truly is. And he gives himself a chance. Steely look saying it all from Ben Griffin. Finally to Shambo then and just the 82 as I mentioned a good lie. Angles’s poor. Shouldn’t be a lot of spin out of this. So he has going to have to work really hard to get some float on this and get some height. That’s three in close, which he’s done. Gone as high as he can, but not quite as far as he wanted. [Applause] Third shot for Dasho up ahead at 18. Got to go in. Good shot out of there. That’s just massively disappointing. Like on the 18th hole, 400 yardd hole and you can’t hit the green and two. Like no opportunity for birdie. Like it’s just that’s rough. I mean that’s just rough. So both Americans on board at 17. Lowry wind hard off the left. Shane and Darren had a pretty good discussion. So I’m guessing it it’s not an easy number. Okay. Opens the door for Maroy to be aggressive. Well, that was a huge putt on the last hole down the hill from Maroy. I mean, Lowry had one up the hill, but he wasn’t waiting. This guy’s just big time. He’ll draw this up against the wind. Wind is gusting now and coming a little bit in his face. [Music] Looks like a pretty good swing. Yeah. Wow. up to 18 and Justin Rose with a birdie putt to win this match. Inside left for me, no more. Both players looked a little uncertain. It’s a tough one to read. No mistake from Rose. The elder statesman of the European team pounces at the last to wrap up that point. Europe move 52 ahead. [Applause] And it does mean that both Scotty Sheffller and Bryson Desambo have failed to win a match on this opening day 0 and2. That’s the big surprise I think out of today’s play. The chump soiling the occasion as ever.
Remember we are playing golf here, so really no room for American speak – should be golf speak i.e. hole halved not tied, match all square – not tied – lets get back to how it should be and don't let the trans Atlantic language interfere. DeChambeau is peculiar – his putter should be banned, it is surely anchored. It's simple really – just make the rule that the putter must be the shortest club in the bag.
Bro Bryson was carrying griffin on his back
I’ve tried to like Bryson but every time I get close to it, he acts like a knob again and it’s gone. 🛎️🔚
