The Hero World Challenge is underway at Albany in the Bahamas as Scottie Scheffler searches for another trophy and players take aim at the $5 million up for grabs.

20 of the PGA Tour’s top stars are gathered to compete for the $1 million first-place prize, and second place has the chance to earn nearly half a million. Tiger Woods hosts the event that made its first appearance in January of 2000 but will not play as he recovers from his seventh back surgery that took place in October.

World No. 1 Scheffler also looks to defend his title at the course, which he says requires a certain skill to win.

“I think it’s a good golf course. You’ve got to keep the ball in play. It is funny coming in, this would be the first event typically from a long break and so you don’t really ever know how things are going to go.

“Yeah, I’ve had some success here, I think a couple seconds and a couple firsts. It’s a golf course that I like. It’s a great place to be able to practice and kind of get back onto a schedule with my trainer and Teddy and guys that I don’t really see throughout the offseason. I find this week to be pretty valuable as I look toward starting next season.”

Scheffler is the two-time defending champion and will face many big competitors over the weekend, including Ryder Cup teammates J.J. Spaun, Harris English, and the losing captain Keegan Bradley. He will also compete against 2016 champion Hideki Matsuyama and 2014 winner Jordan Spieth. The field features eight golfers who have combined to win 13 major championships.

He will also compete against European Ryder Cup stars who came out with a victory in New York at Bethpage including Robert MacIntyre, Justin Rose and Sepp Straka.

The Hero World Challenge is Scheffler’s last tournament of the 2025 season, as he looks forward to the offseason after battling a hand injury at the beginning of the year.

“I think a lot of times you have to see and feel how things are in competition. I took a pretty good break after the Ryder Cup and my season’s going to start a little later than it normally would with Maui being canceled. I feel pretty good.”

Scheffler added that even though the injury set him back, he has a similar routine as to when he was injured.

“It’s nice. I feel like I’m on a similar routine to how I was going into last offseason. Yeah, I don’t anticipate any interruptions this time around. Surprises happen, but I’m remaining hopeful that nothing will go down. Yeah, it’s good being back in a routine.”

The Hero World Challenge hosts the top 20 players in the world and benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
