Michael Kim has reignited a long-standing debate on the PGA Tour, calling for a major rule change after years of controversial plugged-lie incidents. His argument centers on fairness—why should a player be penalized for landing in a pitch mark created by someone else? Now you see the pin just tucked over that lefthand bunker. Golf fans are buzzing after Michael Kim publicly pushed for a major change to one of the PGA Tour’s most frustrating rules. And he didn’t mince words. Follow for more as we break it down. Kim said the tour should immediately allow players a free drop from any plugged lie in the fairway, adding, “Plugged lies in the fairway, even if it’s not yours, you get a free drop.” When a fan replied, “Doesn’t that already exist?” Kim clarified bluntly, “It has to be yours to get a drop.” Kim argues the current rule is simply unfair, especially when a perfect drive ends up buried in a pitch mark created by another player. The Paul Casey incident at the players championship in 2022 remains the prime example. Casey found his ball deep in someone else’s divot, killing a scoring opportunity and derailing his chase for the title. Kim believes the fix is obvious. Make the rule fair for everyone. eliminate luck from the equation and protect players who do everything right off the tea. This debate isn’t going away anytime soon, and Kim’s voice might be the push the PGA Tour finally needs. Follow for

  1. All balls that land in the fairway should be preferred lies. Plugged balls, divots or anthing else should be moved to a spot no closer to the hole within say a foot. You hit it in the rough and it lands in a divot or whatever, then you should have hit in the fairway.
