ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida man is in custody and accused of DUI after a golf cart crash killed his wife in a community where carts are as common as cars.
The crash happened on Sunday in a neighborhood where WJAX says golf carts nearly outnumber its residents.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJCSO) reported that the suspect, Angelo Theodosiou, was driving the golf cart with bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. His wife, Christina, died after falling from the cart and hitting her head on the ground.

“We woke up the lights out here, came outside matter of fact, she was already loaded into the ambulance,” neighbor Christopher Barnes told WJAX. “Her husband was out here, and the police were talking to him. He was pacing around. The golf cart was already by the mailbox.”
Attorney Curry Pajcic says these accidents are more common than most people think, telling WJAX that, “People need to know golf carts are not toys. They’re dangerous, and they can kill people.”
Barnes said there had been close calls in the past and that he expected an incident like this to happen eventually.
Pajcic offered safety tips for golf cart enthusiasts, including: “Don’t drink and drive, always wear a seatbelt, keep your headlights on, use your blinkers, and stay in your lane.”
