Féile O’Sullivan is a teenage girl from Allihies, West Cork, who suffered life-changing injuries in a farming accident in July this year.

Féile is currently a patient in CHI in Crumlin and continues to face significant challenges, including ongoing surgeries, intensive rehabilitation, and adapting to a new way of life.

The financial pressures on the family remain enormous, and this event aims to bring the GAA community together to make a positive impact on the family’s circumstances.

The Stand for Féile Golf Classic was launched at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday, December 2.

The goal is to bring together more than 100 teams from both Cork and Kerry, and early interest has been incredibly encouraging.

Speaking about the event, Barry Coffey, chair of the organising committee, said: “I reached out to the main organising committee following a conversation between several former inter-county GAA players from both Cork and Kerry. I then approached Cork GAA, who backed the initiative 100%, and fully embraced the opportunity to support it.”

“Over the two days, we will welcome more than 100 teams,” said Mr Coffey. “We are delighted to have clubs from both Cork and Kerry taking part. We are also extremely grateful to Cork County Board for their support, including their generous contribution of All-Ireland final tickets as the first prize in this fundraising event.”

Pat Horgan, Cork County Board chairman, said the entire Cork GAA community has been deeply affected by the terrible ordeal that Féile and her family have faced. “We are all determined to help in any way we can to support the O’Sullivan family through this difficult period. I am delighted, on behalf of Cork County Board, to support this initiative.

“I would like to thank Barry Coffey and his committee for their excellent work in organising the event. I hope the O’Sullivan family will be heartened by the great support that this golf classic will garner as we all keep Féile in our thoughts and prayers,” he added.

Kevin O’Donovan, Cork GAA CEO, said the wider GAA family can always be depended on to show support and solidarity to those who need it most. “Féile and the O’Sullivan family need our help now and this initiative will be a significant driver for raising much-needed funds to help them through the tough days ahead. I encourage our supporters to back the golf classic and demonstrate the values that makes the GAA unique.”

Teams of four can enter for €500, with All-Ireland final tickets a remarkable first prize on offer.

The organisers are encouraging GAA clubs, businesses, and individuals to get behind the campaign and help support Féile and her family at this crucial time.
