Have Srixon Changed Game Improvement Irons Forever? (Srixon ZX4 Mk II R & HL Review)
Srixon has made a bold move by introducing their first-ever Super Game Improvement (SGI) iron: the ZXIR and the ZXIR HL (High Launch).
Srixon promises to deliver the premium feel, classic looks, and cutting-edge innovation found in their famous players’ irons, but packed into a forgiving SGI head. But can a Super Game Improvement iron really look and feel this good?
I put the new ZXIR irons to the ultimate test, taking them from the range to the course, to see if they truly offer the perfect balance of forgiveness, distance, and performance.
What You Will Learn in This Srixon ZXIR Review:
The Look & Feel: I break down why the ZXIR wedge and 7-iron look remarkably like a player’s iron and how the feel compares to my gamer ZX4s.
New Technology Deep Dive: We explore the brand-new I-Alloy material (10% softer than regular steel) and how the Main Frame Milling and Tour V.T. Sole technology translates into real forgiveness and better turf interaction.
Distance & Launch: Are the strong lofts just for show? I share my on-course numbers to determine if the ZXIR irons deliver powerful distance without sacrificing the necessary launch and land angle.
Who Should Play These Irons? Srixon targets the mid-to-high handicapper, but I argue that the blend of forgiveness and looks means anyone—from a raw beginner to a low-handicapper—could benefit from putting these in the bag.
Let me know in the comments: What do you think of the ZXIR pricing? Is this the future of game improvement?

Shrixen are introducing their first super game
improvement iron. This is the ZXIR and ZXIR HL for high launch. So this is the first time
Stricks and Golf are bringing a super game improvement iron to their family of irons.
So they’re promising the quality, the feel, the innovation that we’ve had in irons for
so many years now in a super game improvement iron. Someone who desperately needs to improve
their game. I’m keen to test these. So ZXi R first impressions. I’ve got a wedge. I’ve got the
full set here, but I’ve just got a wedge and a 7. The wedge is classic looking. Nice and round.
Sometimes game improvement wedges can be so ugly. But that wedge looks really good. Like
a player’s iron. Slimish top line. Chroing all around. Plenty of face down by the balls. It’s not
the smallest head in the world, but it’s certainly not the biggest. I do like about ZXIR is the
back of them falls in line with their whole stricks and iron range. We’re not going for like
mega fancy badges on the back. Some of the game improvement clubs and manufacturers like go, “Oh,
look. It does mega things on the back cuz game improvement people need like special pictures or
something.” This just looks like a ZXi Iron, but it’s the R. So, game improvement. Maybe slightly
longer blade length. Little bit of offset. Oh yeah. But I can tell these are going to be
I can just see the loft. I mean it’s these are strong and I can see that from some of the numbers
I’m collecting as well. Wowers. But for an iron that looks stricks and fantastic. Feels solid.
Not as soft obviously as their kind of forged offerings, but certainly not as crazy as other
game improvements out there that can just be crazy kind of clippy. That sound is very much in line
with my ZXi 4s, which I game. I I can almost see myself going full game improvement because it’s
giving me the looks that I want. It’s giving me the feel that I kind of already have. And if it’s
offering more help, why would I give that away? I think what this iron would do for a lot of
golfers is that I mean I know this isn’t important to maybe lots of golfers but you no one’s going
to know that’s a game improvement iron unless they know every ins and out of the entire brand’s
range from a distance from playing with someone in the bag. These are just going to look like good
irons. Yet, you’ve got all the help, the technical benefits in theory of their most game improvement
and well, their first game improvement iron and their most game improvement iron out of the whole
range. It’s totally delivering on every level. If you’re someone who wants classic looks, not crazy
jazzy, decent feel, but as much help as possible. Impressive. So, are we getting that perfect
balance between technology and Shrixen’s feels and looks? So, we get I alloy. This is a brand
new material engineered especially for ZXIR irons. This is 10% softer than regular steel that’s found
in game improvement irons. This helps with feel, vibration, and overall feedback is what Shrixen
says. We also see main frame milling patterns. This is going to help that face perform all
across the face. So when we’re mishitting, we don’t get huge drop offs in ball speeds.
And it also allows them to push that sweet spot a little bit lower on the face, which for
irons is generally where people are striking the golf ball. We see the tall VT salt, which
we’ve seen in stricksen irons for ages, helping with turf interaction. We get progressive
grooves, the tighter grooves on the scoring club, slightly wider grooves on the more distance club.
This is all about trying to maximize performance across each individual iron. And we get the
laser face millet. Again, just trying to maximize performance launches and spins on every club
on every shot. So, for a game improvement iron, the blend of tech to what we see in their players
irons is super interesting. When it comes to the always awkward conversation about price, well,
here are the prices. You decide. Maybe in the comments, let me know. Is this too expensive for
a game improvement iron? Is it where you think iron should be or should they be at a slightly
different price point? Let me know. Yes, nothing is cheap at the moment. Nothing is cheap. So, as
someone who plays tricks and irons, I’m super keen to see where these sit in the family of irons.
So, I took them out onto the golf course, played a few holes with them. And what I was noticing very
quick is the feel compared to my ZXi4s, which are obviously on the game improvement side as well,
was super super similar. The ZX i5s as well, wasn’t miles away. It definitely is a slight step
in the game improvement field, but my distance control, how they performed instantly in my bag
without me having to make huge corrections to a new set of irons was great. They’re definitely
on the powerful side, so they were pushing those distances on a fraction. But for me, I was
feeling I could just use this set of irons. Am I really going to be using a super game improvement
set of irons? Possibly. And also, I could easily blend these like I kind of do already in my set
to make sure my pitching wedges and maybe my nine and eight irons are where I want them to be.
moving then on into the super game improvement as I get into less loft. I think the standout
thing for me when I took them onto the course was just how seamless they just started fitting
in to my already set and kind of already where my game is that familiarity with what Stricken
have been bringing was just playing through even on their super game improvement iron. So when it
comes to the actual performance of these clubs, land angle is very good. Launch and spin is good.
spin obviously on that lower side which it needs to be for a game improvement iron to be maxing
out those distances. It feels easy to hit. Can I really gauge across the face hits you would need
to hit a lot more shots than where I’m hitting and still you find what we already know is that ball
speeds do drop off. They’re just dropping off a fraction less how much that plays on out on the
golf course. It’s a season plus for you to decide if that’s making a difference. But the distances
are strong. They’re powerful. They go far. They are easy to get up in the air. They’re still
relatively easy to stop like any game improvement eye and they’re dropping the spin-off a little
bit. But they are powerful and for me at the moment as someone who has gone this way in my set,
I’m quite enjoying where these sit in the distance world that I mean I don’t mind psychologically
hitting an eight even though I know it’s a seven iron in in whatever loft whatever true is
anymore. Just psychologically for me I don’t mind that being an eight. And I certainly quite
like the fact that I can joke with people that I’m hitting an eight when they’re hitting a seven.
But the numbers are where I’d expect them to be. Strong and powerful. And who should play these
irons? The always interesting question when it gets to these. I mean, I can play these irons and
I’m going to try and get qualifying for a senior tour event. I could absolutely play these irons.
The manufacturer. So, Shrixen are kind of saying they’re more the mid to higher handicapper range,
which is what all the manufacturers do. I think you need to decide what you want from your golf
clubs. If it’s good looks with game improvement and better player feels and performance off that
club, so consistency of spin, these are going to be hard to beat in any category. If you want
shaved down shapes and prettier looks, yeah, you can get that in more performance-based club.
Trying to say that they’re for a certain handicap, well, I can see why they’re designed with higher
handicappers in mind, but I honestly believe anyone could play these clubs. Anyone from a tour
player through to a raw beginner, you decide. Maybe in the comments, let me know. Are you going
more towards game improvement than you ever done, or are you running off the blades than you’ve
never done? Let me know in the comments. Now, if you want to find out how far your seven iron
should be going, maybe check this video out. It’s got all the information you need. Don’t be

I would love to see the wedges offered in these to be full face grooved.
Great review as always. I have the ZXi4’s …. are these really that different from the 4’s performance wise? Like why would someone go with these over the 4’s which are already very game improvement?
First ever isn’t really true. I game their z355s which would be the direct precursor to these, as they haven’t had an SGI set since.
Can the long iron get you to 300 and tour card? 😅
Do they offer enough to pull people off other SGI/HL irons?
The best super game improvement "irons" are hybrids. 😆
What irons are you playing right now golfers?
They do look very nice, my fear of the GI models is with experience of Mizuno JPX 919, not so much the drop off or the help but would get one that was super hot and fly 20 yards further making club selection difficult. Since switching to Cobra King Tour Forged i get some good help but no longer get the rocket ship ball, unless I still havent founf the middle after 2 years of trying which is entirely possible 🙂
Just picked up a set of Ping iBlades to play around and practice with, VERY nice.
“Nothing is cheap” 💯
Mark I have to tell you that it is so refreshing hearing you talk about how You could play these irons.
I often watch golf club reviewers, review golf clubs and rate them exceptionally well…but then quickly state that “This is not a club that I would play because it is aimed at a higher handicap golfer“.
When I hear that, all I can think about is how much better they would be if they took advantage of the technology they recommend to others-especially in the irons department!!!
I used to think like that, but have taken your lead and started to embrace more golf improvement clubs with fantastic results.
So, thank you for truly helping the masses get cubs that actually fit their needs.
Look good. Is that a new golf bag from Srixon too?
Being a long long time subscriber, I recall the Mark C. of old and his totally unbiased reviews. I do still faithfully watch and enjoy your videos, thank you very much. But I do miss the confidence I previously had
in your reviews. I know this is your job and you do need to generate income. But Your fierce Independence and the integrity of your unbiased reviews are missing. I will always consider you my old “friend “ on YouTube. Thank you.
Super tour improvement irons 😂
I wish just one company would make a game improvement iron with no or little offset. Some of us hook the ball!
I'd be happy to play game improvement irons but I don't want the offset. Are there any irons giving maximum forgiveness and minimal offset?
Mark Crossfield 's Senior Tour debut WITB: ZxiR HL 4 iron, ZxiR 5 and 6 iron, Zxi4 6 iron, Zxi4 7 and 8 iron, Zxi5 8 iron, Zxi5 9 iron, Zxi7 9 iron, ZxForged PW….
Sticking with my Cobra s9’s that I bought in 2009…😂
I mean, for $1100 usd for 5-AW they are not that out of line price wise. I may have to go to my local fitter and try them out when they get em in
I have recently gone from more "players" oriented clubs to bigger "GI" clubs. I did order them with weaker lofts to combat the offset and loft creep. The confidence to toss a shovel at a ball is freeing, my handicap was creeping up from 6, with the change I am hitting more greens and have dropped a couple points to a 4.
100% here for these as they look incredible. Testing to be done.
Other reviewers are not very flattering of these clubs, is this a little biased?
200 yard wedge, was I seeing that right?
So Cleveland dropped pretty much all irons but wedges and such and Srixon adopted these. It is probably a smart rebrand. I see it as a tad pricey but I think it will likely be in line with other 2026 game improvement irons once they are revealed.
