The 2009 Australian Open champion, Adam Scott won his Australian Open at the New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney. 273 m to the bunker on the right hand side. Nobody will be reaching that today. Straight back into the northerly breeze. Low ball flight down the left flank on the tea from Western Australia. Minwi, 27 years of age now, a winner on the PGA Tour for the first time earlier this year in Houston and a three-time winner on the DP World Tour. And I think you’re going to see a lot of creative shots out of this trio today. A lot of low ball flights. Minu Lee obviously renowned for his stinger. This one came off the club face beautifully down the left side of the fairway and I almost just got blown over calling that. On the tea from Northern Ireland, the 2013 Australian Open champion, Rory Mroy, winner of the Australian Open in 2013, denying Adam Scott the Aussie triple crown that year. Good looking T-shot down the right hand side from Rory to begin his campaign. Didn’t look happy with it, but it’s a fairway found. It’s quite a generous fairway this 10th. The further back you go from just off the green. Minu Lee looking to cozy one up there. Almost better than that. It’s beautifully done. Smart choice. Back to Rory Maroy for Birdie. Got a nice teach off Minwar line just moments ago. It’s got the speed. Oh, what a start from Mroy down under on top immediately. Certainly is an opening statement. Pure iron shot and 30footer never looked like missing. And here’s Jeffrey Guan who uh Euan referenced earlier on. One of the amazing stories right now in Australian golf, his comeback story, a young man from Sydney. Oh, that’s a handy bounce. A great result for Guan. He might be handing over a glove in a few moments time. Hoisting it up in the air. Fading a little towards the flag. Little short of the putting surface, but he’s shown his ability to shape it both ways on the opening couple of holes. Yeah, just caught the ups slope of the front of the green. Almost lucky it actually didn’t roll back another 10 meters off, but he was licking his lips in the air. How has he created the fade here, Nick? He’s just aiming a little left. He’s going to just keep that club face a little open through the ball coming out of the rough. light rough. You’d say it’s a little hard to create the spin, but just watch the rotation of the upper body through the ball. Just trying to keep that face open as long as possible. Left hand really very strong. What about Minu Yuan? Oh, just three or four m closer. Got to be looking at a similar shot 10 15 ft left of the flag. Try and drift it in from left to right. 188. It is fading in just left of it. judging it beautifully. So, Mu will get a look at birdie here on the second hole of the day. Good strike. Miles in the air on a good line, too. Superb. knew immediately he left that on the right lip. So, drops back to even par through the opening couple of holes. It wasn’t a joke. He’ll be doing it all week and then he’ll settle into a routine and a plan of his own. Yeah, difficult hold this today. Down left to right. The fairway cambers from left to right and you’ve got to hit a right to left and that has ran out of room for Cam Smith, but not a bad angle into this green. Fairway’s running quicker than the greens. As we snake our way round what is the middle paddock of four here at Royal Melbourne, go back to 11 and go back for birdie. Can he find the pace? Just it can be done. Let’s go back to Kuso. He too giving this a lot of break. Generally doesn’t move as much as you think. He’s dead. Got it. Great read and a great execution. Threewood miles up in the air drawing back towards the middle. This will find a short press. couldn’t take his his driver there, but as you can see, he’s executed the three-wood perfectly and he’ll be the last to go at it when the ball eventually stops. Former champion Jeff Oglev, we saw him outstanding form last week at the PGA in Brisbane. This was moments ago here on the par five and he’s running it up beautifully. Anything landing on this green with a long iron is going straight over the back and Jeff knows that up ahead of the green. Jeff Oggoy is for Eagle to get back to level. Yeah, that’s the way to do it. Still got it. 48 Jeff Oggovy. See how Adam Scott approaches things. 178 from the middle of the fairway and the breeze more of his right shoulder from this angle. So he’ll be starting it out that right side of the green turning it in. Eight in hand. It is drawing. Good looking shot. He liked it and that is wide. Scared the pin for a moment. See how how strong and direct that breeze is by the the flag. New season is underway. Now Scott for eagle and that’ll get him going. Adam Scott with an eagle. Yeah, it was the perfect leave. Little past the hole coming back up the slope slightly. Never looked like missing. Even a little early walk. Nothing like a putt, an eagle putt to put the spring in the step early. Now Guan big sweeping downhill left to right. Thank you very much. And that is a bonus because that was going a good seven or eight ft past. Thorning start for him, but he’s fought back. And a very difficult one to gauge the pace here up the ridge. Should be pretty straight for the first half. It’ll feed a little bit to the right at the end. Oh, the Rory fans are ready. Another magnificent long putt from Rory Mroy. You can’t keep him down for too long. line pace all matching up from a difficult spot on that green as well. Cam Smith second shot. 120 for Cam Smith. Straight down breeze. How brave do you want to be at this pin? Wow. Well, that’s brave. Cam trying to follow Elvis in. And another birdie. So, the Australian superstar stepping up right now. Smith and Smiley. He’s had success here before with David Maloozi at amateur level and lost that playoff to Ryan Peak last year in the Sandbell Invitational. Minu Lee was part of that master of the amateur tournament with Micuzi back in 2018 here at Royal and got it. There’s a birdie for Minu Lee at 17. This guy’s popular the world over. Eddie Peril chance to get to three under and join the leaders and right around for another birdie. Little lap of honor there for Eddie. I was going to say it’s not often you get the world number 40 carrying the scoreboard around for a group of three. You watch the ball flight thanks to Trackman with support from Rolex. Oh yes. pulling the screen and the tap inverting the two under Q Ian Baker Finch and the great Jack Nicholas. He’s Cory Lamb. I was speaking to him the other day. So excited to play the composite course for the first time. this for Eagle at three and Lamb chops quickly to two under. You talk about a old school putting stroke. There is so much wrist in that action. Very much like John Daly. Yeah, I think he’s got that right. I think he’s the speed of his putter head was a bit out last week, but this week it all looks in sync. tracking and Cam Smith looking for his first Australian Open title as a co-leader on day one. Ugo Casau for Eagle to join Pero at the top at four under likes it. He’s interested to settle for birdie. Tell you what, that’s two massive hits if that’s his eagle putt. into the teeth. Either that or he got a couple of bounces off sprinkler heads. I’m not sure because that is huge. We’ll see. Mroy hasn’t. He’s had total control. And here he is at two. 1419 in hand. This is high, but it looks good. It looks like it will get there. And get there. It does. Opportunity for Rory to get that shot that he lost straight back. That was never going to miss. Aurori roller coaster continues the downs and the ups. Now Elvis from the right side of the fairway here on one. We’re drawing one in from the middle of the green. Yeah, I believe he’s got six iron here. Brad Peter told me that wind is really howing across left and right now. Oh, there you go. There you go. Sometimes you just need a little bit of luck. Well, if he holds that putt, I’d race over to that person and I don’t know, just give him half a dozen balls or something to join the lead. Elvis Smiley, a three with an assist, you could say. Mark Leechman searching for a birdie here as he is for an Australian major. So close, so regularly. Got it. First birdie of the day for Mark Leeman. Back to level par. Gives himself a little clinch of the fists. Yeah. 29 for Smiley. Luxury of seeing the last two shots. He’s played this one down a little bit lower on a good line, too. That’s a fantastic shot. Super shot from Elvis Smiley. Straight up the hill and straight in. And once again, no pass in sight for Aurora at the moment. It’s Birdie or Bogey. and he ties the lead. A sea of people at minus three now. Another trap here at four. The gasps of the gallery says it all. Euan. Yeah. They’re putting across the green uphill into the breeze moving from his left to right. Perfect long range put for Minu Lee while others were struggling on this hole. Not so for Minw. Now the test for Rory. Uphill slow putt right center. There’s a path and a handy one. Dead center in the end. I think the cashmere breathes a little better. Not the spot to be for this flag though for Alex Fitzpatrick. Not much to work with, but he has done very well. That’s it from our pleaser. Alex Fitzpatrick all the way back to one over again. Similar card to that of Rory really Danny Willlet. Not a whole lot of joy today. Starting out with a triple bogey and his opening hole, but a birdie chance here. Roll out and does. Played a couple of really good threequarter shots today. Well, he’s gone flat out at that one. Starting it right. He’s trying to draw. and hangs on. He’ll be able to use the putter, but the other two have plenty of work to do. Short on that hole now. Cam Smith at six. Cam Smith long off the tea here. Only 110 m back into this breeze. This one’s headed a little left. If he’s long, he’s okay. It’s getting more difficult, Gowi. Oh, it is. It’s just swirling more speedy more than anything else. And I’m just trying to pick the wind at the right time. And that was a very good shot from Elvis and Cam Smith. He’s the closest in the end. Cam Smith. Slider for Birdie for Cam Smith. Been some great signs today, hasn’t there, for Cam Smith. Great to have him back on the leaderboard, back in form. We go to one of our co-leaders in Sebastian Munos. He was prominent last week at Royal Queensland. Loving his time down under. And look at this one just rolling away. But he’ll have a good look at birdie to be the outright leader. Jeff Oggovy. He’d know how to hit that shot. That’s for Birdie on the short par four. Beautifully done. That’s for Birdie for Peril to join the pack at minus four. And that’s exactly what Eddie Pil is able to do. His first birdie on the back nine out in 31. Now Smiley, he would have got a good gauge on the distance from Cam Smith. And doesn’t he make it work? Elvis smiling. Five under and he is making the running the Crown Australian Open in the opening round. Just you mate. Thank you. Appreciate it. Reaching for the putter. Y don’t think this is a bad play at all. Allie, it’s actually not sitting that great. Either way, he has to run it up the bank. That wind is gusting so hard right now. Quite an exposed point of the golf course. He’s going to have to give this a good wrap up the hill. Otherwise, it’ll come back to his feet. Yeah, he’s almost got to play for 20 30 ft past the flag here. If he tries to get too cute, you might be down here for a little while. You’ve almost got to accept your bogey. And if you happen to finish within 10 ft, it will be a miracle. So, what’s his line there, Nick, as we look back over the hole and see? It’s going to be a little bit out to the right. I’d say it’s just going to go a fraction right to the left up that slope, but it’s it’s more about speed. And to be honest, it’s a bit of a guessing game here as to what it’s going to do this first party. If it takes a big bounce or a jump, this could easily come back to his feet. So, you’re going to have to, as I say, play 20, 30 ft past and really take your medicine. I mean, when it gets to the fringe, when it gets to the green, it’s got to be about a foot and a half right in the hole. All right, you got it. Good focus here. Hold nice and still, please, folks. Thank you. Not sure you practice that often either. Sit there. He’s done well. That’s exceptional. In fact, from there. Oh, what a save. Well, he’s hold a bunch of pass saving putts from varying lengths from six to 10 ft, but I think that’s the best one of them all. Now Scott, he’s going to have to play a little bit more of a spinny shot here. Both those shots are world class. Controlling the distance beautifully. Now Adam, well Nick, it’s a tricky one. It’s a right to left putt, but the breeze is coming hard off his left. Might counteract that. Yeah, perfectly judged. That was never going anywhere else, was it? Now Ogby finish his round with a birdie. First birdie today at the ninth hole. And it goes to that man. Back to back birdies as well at eight and nine for Jeff Ogleby who ends his day in the red. Here is our outright leader on his penultimate hole today. Elvis Smiley Gowi. Yeah, he’s just got 86 meters here. It’s blust blustery out here. This is sits up this green and it’s going to be firm. What a shot. Great look here for Smiley to get to six. He’s got it. Smiley looking to claim his second Aussie major. Now Mroy putter out. Great job. Superbly judged. Wonderful touch. That’s a 72 for Mroy in his first competitive round here at Royal Melbourne. In fact, it’s 73. knows this place so well for the international team, the president’s cup level. He’s been a regular for nearly two decades now. This composite course has hosted the President’s Cup twice in Adam Scott’s era three times overall and he’ll be here for a fourth iteration very soon. Here’s Mark Leechman. He’s from the state and that is a birdie. Nice fight back from Leash. We’ll see if he can do it here. Should move a little bit left or right. Closes out a round of 70. Not quite the finish he was hoping for, but I think he can take a lot out of that round. really dug deep towards the end, especially to save bogey on the previous hole. A good par there. Anything under par today, you’d be very very happy with waking up this morning. You’re inside the top 20 if you’re under par at the moment. Worked hard to make the cut last week. Found confidence on the weekend. Finished in the top 20 in that title defense and he’s built on it big time today. Elvis, he certainly has. Just watch this putting stroke and just keep his head down. First couple of feet the ball rolls. Always a good sign with him. It’s a 600. 65 on day one for Elvis Smiley. That’ll be hard to top here on the composite course on day one.

  1. I'm watching some stunning golf on a stunning golf course. I hope we see more international players here in coming years. This course should be challenging the world's best.

  2. Between their histories and the quality of the golf courses, the top Australian events should get more participation from the highest ranking American pros.

  3. 🤔 Why did Rory’s card say par on the 10th, when we supposedly watched him birdie the 10th, his 1st hole of the day ? 🤔

  4. Pretty big galleries for a 7am Thursday tee off. Shows you how starved for quality golf us Aussies are… PGA Tour… are you listening?

  5. Very very good highlight reel. Pulling for Aussie golf atm. What a 3 ball btw: Rory, AS and Min Woo.

  6. O'Driscoll is a one eyed, biased, kak commentator.

The Boks could have put 50 points against the Irish, instead they made a point of breaking them. They destroyed the scrum. Should have been at least three penalty tries. Plus the Irish captain was offside at so many rucks, side entries, playing the ball. A poor performance by the Ireland team. If you watched the coach interview, Farrel is a sore loser. Couldn't accept the fact that the Boks destroyed his team. Barely acknowledged the Boks excellent performance. Poor sportsmanship.

  7. In the first few moments of the video you see Adam Scott take his left hand grip with the driver holding the club very closed by his side, do you think his grip is that strong further down the bag?

  8. Poker actually led me into copytrading 😂 Been working with Bella Flor Hampton and it’s helped me a ton. Finally starting to feel some financial freedom.

  9. If Rory committed to playing at the Australian Open for ten years, at this golf course, I think it would have a chance of becoming the fifth major, or replacing the PGA. The Masters and Australian Opens at top quality set venues, along with US Open and Open cycling through the best courses in the US and Britain is a schedule I would be up for.
