I test a £17 PGM Chipper and I could believe the RESULTS!
We got asked if a 9 iron could be used in the same way as a chipper?
Never in my life have I ever thought about putting a golf chipper in the bag!…They’re for HACKERS right?
For the first time in my life I tried a chipper and I couldn’t believe how much easier and more simple the technique were to chip!
I’m a scratch golfer and I’ve got to find room in my golf bag for this club!
PGM Golf Chipper bought off ALI EXPRESS for £17.50

welcome back to the channel guys today joining us on a sunny but cold morning at robam golf club it’s a bit different the last time I were on camera but yeah yeah we were in Turkey weren’t we last time but is dry we’ve become a little bit of fair wether golfers would you say well I’ve not played since which I think speaks a lot doesn’t it yeah definitely we got asked a question though uh because one of our subscribers is struggling with his chipping he’s considering buying a chipper which we’ve gone out and bought for him it’s the PGM chipper off AliExpress okay um it’s about a 9 o Loft asked can we use a traditional 99 out the set as well as a chipper is it worth him going and buying a chipper because he’s struggling with his chipping or is he just kidding himself like could he just do the same with a nine iron so that’s the question we’re going to answer today we’re going to test this for him we’ve not even took the rapper off this yet uh I can’t say I’ve ever gain one of these no me I’ve seen them I mean it could be ideal for me because as we know my chipping is not the best I’ve seen in Pro Shop obviously here at R go they’ve stock like the Odyssey chipper before the pingle did Ping did a chipper so you can get some really premium ones this is like a pretty much entry level budget one um but yeah we’re going to test it give it a try there it goes give you some feedback so I’ve got Dan with us obviously Dan’s quite a reasonable golfer you’re six handicap yeah but you but he’s actual chipping you really struggle you’ve probably seen handicap 20 handicap he chips with one hand so he’s going to stick with his normal technique do you want to just h a few sort of chipping runs with a 9on is it a shot you normally usually play honestly I never play like a bump and run with eight n yeah no I know players who do and use it well I don’t know why I don’t but well let’s see I mean you might be a great sort of person for this cuz obviously somebody that struggles with the chipping you never know this could be in your bag after this well never say never but we’re going to sort of test both I mean if you start buting some yellow balls with your Club Y and we’ll go to go to this one here uh what F this one no the middle one on the left hand side what just say number two yeah number two I’ll just make sure we can see I don’t think there’ll be much to see guys just have free shots and then we’ll it free with a wedge and just start to see how we feel I mean maybe it’s a shot you need to startop prac I just I nearly pack clubs away went to the car any golf coach will tell you keep that ball on the floor get it on the floor as soon as you can when you’re out green that’s my issue how firey they are I think cuz you’re using one hand Yeah you sort of struggle to sort of hit it soft don’t you soft is not my uh game better it’s amazing what LMS people go to when they’re struggling chipping is it you know like you’re a prime example of that is I’ve seen people start to try and Chip left-handed you know they try all sorts don’t they I think even just speaking to Callum my coach even some top golfers telling me some at stories it’s it’s amazing what they’ll do it’s really amazing but you’ve got to keep playing golf a you the best you can you’ve just found that chipping one hand actually works better so give a couple of them and just let me know initially what you feel like obviously picking up a different Club it’s the same Loft it’s obviously designed for out green more yeah I assume it’s going to come off a lot softer but I could be wrong well it’s the same Loft so it don’t really come off any sof doesn’t come off any different quite similar actually to a 9 yeah cuz it feels like I don’t know if it’s you know it being a like a shallower face I think you see the Loft more than you do on a a bigger face if that makes sense yeah so I’m feeling like it’s going to launch it in there but actually it’s just it’s coming out yeah it’s not so be obviously if we just put it next to my sort of 9on it’s the same off the 9 it’s considerably shorter is it I think that’s why you see the Loft more and you feel that it’s shorter when you’re playing it no not really cuz I on these shots I’m gripping down anyway yeah I’m not using about obviously it looks like it’s got like more alignment on than a normal 99 is that helping in anywh no I don’t I don’t really look at that right let me give you my professional opinion then obviously I think it’s good to sort of get people at different chipping abilities not that mine’s fantastic by the way in fact I’ll start with my own N9 cuz this is a shot that I do play a lot I like to keep the ball yeah down and keep it rolling get it rolling as soon as I can I think you’re right there less risk is it yeah so it’s just almost like use it as a putting [Music] stroke you didn’t pick easyest flag here did you no not really no so I’ve got that little bit of forward press back foot very nice I’m just gripping down it not too bad right let’s see what I feel so because it’s shorter I feel like I’m standing closer to the ball which is ideal what you want when you’re playing a a Chip Shot around the green if you stand closer the club’s going to move up and it’s not going to Ark around your body as much basically so you can keep that club face squarer to your path rather than If you’re sort of re with a longer Club you’re going to naturally AR more so so straight away I feel like I’m more like a putting stro really yeah I actually think like I’m holding a putter and for some reason I naturally want to hold the shaft in the middle so I’m more here rather than I think with my own club I’d want to sort of do that more I don’t feel myself wanting to do that the way the club’s designed I think if I were to do that the Leading Edge would sort of dig and obviously got this nice wide sole on the bottom and I think to get the most out of that I’m going to hold it in the middle stand upright like a Putter and I think if you come back and give this a go like this and see if this technique helps you anymore and then from there it is really just like a putting stroke that’s how I see this club being used you’ve almost got the back of the club it looks like a bit of a putter at the back of the golf club I’ve got to say I actually like that you sounded like a nice little strike actually that s like I’d got four far less uh negative around interaction with floor I won’t cuz even me as a better golfer when you get on these like little bit of a muddy lies in Winter you do get a bit nervous but with this cuz I’m I’m not that Leading Edge is up off the floor and I’m using a putting stroke which I’m pretty confident with I feel like the connection is going to be better I don’t feel like I’m likely to sort of make much bad contact with floor and you’re quite a good putter down so I think this could potentially work for you cuz I’m literally using a pting stroke weight’s 50/50 balls in the middle that one just checks a little bit maybe a bit of a soft bounce I want you to give that a go the playing that same technique CU I think putting this could help you cuz you you are a good Putter and I think you just that first time you tried it I don’t think you were approaching it in the right manner let’s just check your setup so exactly I just do a put yeah exactly yeah nice straight arms weight 5050 and just trying to sweep the floor like really flat to the floor just just a putting stroke now you lifted it you see you didn’t put a you didn’t put a putting stroke on I have another one show me a proper pting stroke imagine it’s a putter so nice and low to the Flav a practice stroke first it’s not a chipper would you take a putter that far back as well you know really really dial into a putting stroke technique really flat to the floor that’s better same again I’m getting you from this angle cuz I want to make sure that you you’ve got it vertical arms nice and straight nice and rigid weight 50/50 and just put it you might not like this club cuz you’re a low handicapper but I think that you could really use a putting technique you know with this club I’m not trying to sell you it but you are I think for you I think this would be a fantastic Club to have in your bag I think it’s one you could get really confident with um because You’ be able to dial into a pting stroke rather than a chipping stroke I mean there’s no doubt it gives you definitely a bit of confidence just way it looks just play that last one I think sometimes with this though you do get confused between wanting to put a proper chipping stroke on it which you don’t need to do it’s literally a putting stroke and I guarantee if you put two hands on a pitching wedge and try to or a 9 tried to that same shot your results would been way different well I think it’s a pretty easy answer that D yeah I mean it definitely inspires a bit of confidence do it I think you know we’ve only just picked it up I think 30 minutes an hour with could be a bit different for me you cannot play a 9 like a chipper a 99 is longer it’s a club that you have to forward lean you have to get your weight you have to basically play a proper chip with a 9 with this club it allows you to stand like a putter you’re right so if you fancy yourself as a good putter but an awful chipper you just cannot replicate having a chipper in your bag it is literally a putter with Loft so you can stand to it with your weight 50/50 the ball in the middle of your feet and literally get a pendulum stroke you’re not having to kind of lift the club off the floor like you do with a um you know obviously a n you can literally put a really shallow stroke low to the floor let Club do work for you let the club do the work obviously because it’s a shorter shaft it’s more upright you stood closer to it so you’ve not got much Arc you cannot replicate um a n iron into a chipper so I think we’ve answer the question give it a well and I think um you might not like this D but I genuinely think if you could get over the fact that you’re a six handicap and you’d have a chip in the back you I think you should generally and I know you like your equipment so you might go down the route of you know maybe a ping or a more you know an odyssey one but I I honestly think around green if you were my partner I’d prefer to see you chipping definitely guys hope you’ve enjoyed that video If you’re not subscribed hit the Subscribe button and we’ll see you in a few days time Normally get your videos ;;; but how can you have a test with a chipper with a golf handicapper on 6 with 1 hand
I've been considering the ping chipr lately too, I play for fun, so wtf do I have to prove?
I know James says you’re on the cheap but wow! Ali express 😂
If you are struggling with your chipping there is no harm in sticking one of those in your game.
I have one I never really got on with it, it only offers the one shot and I find I prefer a wedge, its the ability to hit straight but that for me was not the issue it was more feel and the ability to judge the landing spot.
When in doubt chipper out. Cleveland 4.0
Gaz, I have a putter grip on my Cleveland smart sole chipper. You put a putter grip on that chipper and compare the difference.
im a 3 handicap with the chipping yips for the past 5yrs.. my little cheap no-name chipper has saved my game
Interesting, i play off 5 and my Cleveland chipper is a magic wand, I use it up to 60m. But often when I tell people how good it is, they will have a go but just get the technique wrong like Dan was early and don’t like it.
He should go left hand low with his chipping, he would be much more consistent
If you play with a Chipper you should have your man card revoked 😮
Send him to Dan grief
For those shots with a chipper, you need to use a putting grip as well, not just the putting stroke..That’s only from my experience..Even put a putter grip on my Spalding TPM’s (Helps stop me from using it from 100 Yards 😂)
I was struggling with chipping duffed so many, I bought a Cleveland smart sole chipper saved me loads of shots especially after I changed all my wedges to Cleveland , the chipper is really versatile 42 degrees I use it for full shots, out of fairway bunkers, out of the rough, great club.
Dan seems to be very wristy with his stroke and not rocking his shoulders back and through.
I am a high handicapper (23.4) and i tried to like a chipper, but i just couldnt make it work for me…couldnt care less about a "stigma" around having a chipper, it just did NOT work for me personally. Even using a putting stroke i had far more mishits, and far more inconsistent strikes compared to using a 48° or bump and run with a 7 iron… i probably spent 5 hrs at the chipping green trying to get a grip on that club but it just didnt work, so i sold it the week after i bought it… it was an Odyssey x-act, guess they arent for everyone…
Could there be a correlation between being a poor chipper and only using one arm to chip, I wonder.
The ping chiPer is a wonderful club around the green, and looks great, so you can look good, and play better golf ⛳.
Totally agree putting technique doesn’t work with smart sole.I’ve hit some great shots under pressure with it, great addition for most club players. Amazing from 50 yards it even grabs on second bounce.
I think he should use the chipper like a putter…not one handed
I'm single figures and use my 22° hybrid to putt when not on the green and nowt to go over. You have to practice it but it is brilliant for me.
Maybe fit a putter grip to help with the putting stroke needed. Better still, have a chat with your mate at LAB and see if he will make one for you. Lol
For me it’s always been an ego thing, which is bloody stupid!! I have got one and use it for a while when I get the chipping yips, once I get my confidence back I go back to using my PW for chipping. As I said, it’s a bloody stupid ego thing!!!!!
I play a ping chipr,
Love it around the greens when I need it to roll out a good distance.
I bought a chipper on Amazon for USD 25 toward the end of the 2024 season. It genuinely changed my short game. I never thought I would use one but here I am, lol. It really does inspire confidence around the green and helps me to keep the putter stroke consistent. I wasn’t able to do that with my 8 or 9 iron.
Once the point in this one handed demo? Not a good video.
First guy should have used the chipper 2 handed see if it made a difference.
Chip with a putter stroke. Easy. Or flick(with wrists)the ball with a wedge halfway to the hole, and it will run to the hole.
One-handed shots are for the heavyheids.
Greenside shots are my best shots. If I could use a wedge instead of a putter on the green, I would .
I used to use a chipper , it was really helpful but eventually I learnt to use my 8 iron and I passed it onto the wife.
I, too, am of the “more ground time, less air time” school.
Depending on feel from day to day, I will either “putt” with my 4 hybrid or choke down on my 6iron all the way to the metal, stand closer to the ball and “toe” it. Feels like a putt. For some reason the only iron it really works with is the 6
Let the guy try chipping with a 5 or 6 hybrid with a putting stroke… And give us the video to see. Works for me.😊
1 hand? Wtf
I cant imagine that dude is a 6 handicapper , lol . He must drive , putt, and hit his irons better than anyone else on the planet.
The guy is using a wedge action ,just put and you will get the result .
Your dad has a lot of wrist action in his putting stroke.
Why one handed? He doesn't need it. Only higher handicappers….
I've never seen someone swing 1 handed.
