Today I am taking on one of YouTube’s best golfers and my biggest rival. Sometimes my friend, but today my foe Peter Finch. Wow. Great. Hey, how we doing? Good. I know. I don’t even know what day it is. Like the 26th or something in November. Wallacey Golf Club in immaculate condition. We’re having a straight up match play. We’ve got an 18hole stroke play coming from Pinehurst, Pete. Okay, that’ll be good. We just literally just been talking about I completely forgot about that. We’re playing twice in the space of like a week. Yeah, we are together. But 18 holes match play. Well, who knows? 18 holes. Maybe, maybe not. We’re going to head down to the first two. Play well. Um, 382 yards. Wallace Golf Club looks incredible for this time of year. It’s basically December. It’s cold, but it’s firm. Greens are quick. Think about this hybrid a lot. What am I doing? Sorry. Literal world of literal world of me. All right. Come on you chopper. Right, lad. Jeez, you’ve got me at a real uh That seemed to be in the air for a very long time. Yeah, it was. Fry’s got me at a slight disadvantage here. I’ve just literally walked out of 25° sunny heat into a sunny fridge today. Could feel every single part of my body. What an antisocial first. That’s the first time I’ve ever been laughed down here. It’s nerves. You see it’s nerves. I get it. I get it. I get it. Like when you’re in when you’re in my aura, you know, things things start to go a miss. Well, how how long you can take 30? Never been over there. We’ll have to wrap up in a couple hours, I reckon. And that that’s with me throwing a come back from a week of warm weather training. Yeah. Uh it’s it’s pretty inconsistent. Inconsistent. Yeah. What I’m really the thing I’m most nervous about cuz I can feel already is my back. Soon as it gets cold now I’m like back. Sorry. Glass back. Oh mate. Honestly brittle boy. I’d uh like 4 days into the turkey trip. I had to like take a good like 2 hours out. I think it’s just been around my uh my back when last time we fell. Oh man, honestly 160 to the flag. Where’s the wind? Off the left. This is the green where it sort of falls down and on. So I actually only have 150 front I need to fly it to. So cold temperatures about I think it’s about six I saw in the car when we came out. So I think I’m going to go eight here a good number please. That should be pretty pretty good. I think there’s about 6T left of the flag. A good yardage. So fingers crossed. Maybe there’s something to it. Getting healthy, being fit. I don’t like to admit it, but you know, time’s getting on. My body is slowly falling and slipping into a pit of soreness and incapability. So yeah, gym massage, eating healthy. That was good. Jeez. Fryer. Fry’s coming out to play. Miles, right? That is miles away. Looks like I’m fading it today. Look at that. That’s a great shot using the bank as well. Pitched it here. Absolute player. Knows his yardages. Surprising. Like Josh says you’re crap. I was like I thought he was all right. I know. This is the uh first try out of the blade. A zero torque putter for Pete. He was putting like me last year with his previous putter, but now he’s decided to change. He’s definitely got a case of the friars with his putter. If I can get a victory today, that’s massive. Pete’s sort of like my what would you call him? My my biggest rival. Carter don’t really care about. He uh doesn’t take golf seriously as well. Peach transformed himself into a great player and I really like what he’s done with his golf this year. So that’s my ambition for next year to be as good as him. So today is a good test to see where we’re at. And right now he’s going to be putting again. Yeah, it’s still you. Whoa. Don’t miss agree. Still you. Uh yeah, I’m not uh I’d change your putter back if I was you. I am not being uh overly dramatic when I say these greens are actually quicker than a lot of the ones played in Turkey. They uh the point greens seem quick to be fair. And into having fantastic work though, don’t he? That’s unreal. Yeah, he’s a uh master of his craft. One would say a lot of golf clubs who’d want him. Yeah. Pay whatever they pay him whatever he wants. Wy do not let him go. Very very good, sir. What a two put. I don’t think there was any doubt. Was there clash two put saved your uh just want to make it dramatic. It’s all about retention, you know. Saved your bacon there, sir. There you go. I’ll just give you a chance to stick an ad in just before that put. Yeah. Right then. Come on. Yeah. Yeah. So, the beauty about a zero torque putter is you can just move it. I actually hit that exactly where I wanted. You take that away. Well, half I think you should be pretty disappointed then. I hit two. I kind of think you should have won that. Yeah. I mean, I feel like I might half momentum sort of shifts there a little bit, but I’m happy. I’m happy. Don’t worry. I’m uh I’m not going to move any sort of momentum today. Yeah, we’ve got Turtle Pete with us. I feel I feel like physically and mentally heavy. I feel like an anchor. This tea is actually better down here on the second. Even though we’re only 10 yards left, it just feels like a better angle. Second hole is a par four. That’s 450 dog legs from left to right. And there are some bunkers down the right that come in at 259, the first one. And then the next one’s not in play. It’s further up. All square Pete. All right. Why? Why? Why are we flying off the backs? Why? Yeah. Because we want to give ourselves the most vigorous test we can. This It’s 6° and it’s December nearly. These drives like 250. Absolute max. Oh well. No time to think about swinging mechanics today. It’s a bit downwind, I suppose. Yeah. Down off the right. I think it’s just bang it at the bunker and let it come back. Stay right shot. That’s going to miss them both. Oh yeah, that’s really good. Just right of it. I think that’s it was just right. Sort of just right in between them. I think he kind of kick left. Can’t show you the head yet, but that’s the shaft for it. And oddly, it’s a little bit like half an inch long. And it’s actually Luke Donald’s old shaft that he was fit into. And if I can hit mish hit it and get it in the fairway more, that’d be pretty darn good. Anyway, 160. I’m going eight and the pins sort of front left. So, this is a good club and just slightly right of it. And let it come back in. Wind. Wind. Wind. It was a a healy mishit, so couldn’t expect too much, but thought the wind was off the right. I am all today. I’m just going to play one extra club cuz it’s cold. So 150 a little bit down. That just normally be a wedge. So I’m going to hit nine. Aiming at Josh and then just letting the wind just let it fall to the left. wind short. Oh, it is not flying far today, right? Two uh lackluster shots there. These uh approaches are like greens, aren’t they? Yeah, you could almost put that. Not going to, but you could almost You’re going to put it. I I could saying I could almost put it, but I’m not going to. Just chip it just to the front of the green and let it trickle on up. That’s very nice. Basic. I think I will put mine on him. I think I will put mine. Yeah, yours is. It’s so tight. The fringe, isn’t it? It’s the tight and firm, which given it’s been a monsoon here lately. I’ll let you decide. Is that gimme or not? If it’s not inside a putter length, no. Oh, just outside. Just out. Okay. It’s uh it is a 33 in putter though. So if I went standard, it was inside. That’s just inside a grip. Yeah, you can have that one. It was online and then your shadow knocked it off. I I realized when you were taking it back, I was like, ah, shadow. Oh, well, I didn’t want to then move it cuz I thought I don’t think he was like this anymore. bit tactical. It’s always tactics. It’s always something. Can’t just have a nice pleasant round of golf. That’s what it’s there for. You may as well wipe them lips. I felt my face open then. That was disgusting. I could I could almost see it. Yeah, it actually got to about 62° open at impact then, but luckily we were that close. It didn’t matter. Pete was just stingy with his gimmies. Well, I listen, if you would have taken it away, I wouldn’t have actually said it then. Well, the third hole is 374 yards. It’s a lovely one that just runs through a valley of dunes here. Yeah. Up to a green that is protected by two large slopes either side. And uh it’s a it’s a rascal to say the least. If you get the driver in play in play, it does make it easier, but even then it’s it’s tricky. Just trying to think. He’s just just m to the left. Literally, they are the perfect line now. Okay. Just straight at them. Let it fly. Unbelievable. It’s going to lie. It’s right on that white post. To be fair, that should be okay. I think it is just humps. Yeah, you’ll just be like, to be fair, if you look at it, it’s cut down, isn’t it? If you were 15 left of that issue, but you’re not. Wow. You’ll be having a lob wedge or a gap wedge, I would imagine, onto the green. That might be the best strike I’ve had in a few weeks. My driving was horrible at two, was it? Yeah. Get yourself in the zoo now. Yeah. Nice. Nice. Yeah. Oh, tremendous kick into the middle of the fairway. That’s Mizuno for you, baby. Very unlike performance. Two fairways found in the first three holes. 97 yards. I need to try and get it in close. Get a bit of pressure on Pete cuz I’ve not seen where he is yet, but I would assume it’ll have a very stinky lie. Now, this green does have a big slope at the back that can help. So, I’m going to play beyond the flag. 97. I’m going to hit this as if it was 100. and 15. I’ve dug it. That was terrible. Stay up on that. Oh, Matt. I think that spun down the wrong tear. That was a bad golf swing. I’m going to be really cruel and make him regret that. I’m going to back foot a 54 degree, land it in the middle of the green, and just let it scoot up. That’s chipping as well. I think there’s Okay, I’ll take it. I’ll take it after almost losing it. From what was a great T-shot, I’ve now got a very hard pitch. Looks like I pitched up on the middle and spun it all the way back, but should have been much better with a wedge. Indecision is the bane of my life. God driver’s seat to car crash on the M6. Not good. Well, we are uh Jeez, we are making a I hit that hard of this hole. That’s a very good effort from there. has to turn. What’s that in? I’ve actually lost count. That’s a five. So, this is for the half. And I was in the middle of the fairway. Oh, man. I should have even gave you this chance. Criy. Quality golf. You know, quality. Well played. I think in the end that’s a good half. Well played class. I’m happy with that. That’s the problem, Matt. You just you just got to lower your expectations. You just got to be happy with what you get. What a douff. Don’t happy duff me waste to wind up anyway. Oh well. The more negative he gets, the more positive I get. Just kills him. Hates it. That would not play. Stableford here is actually Frank would be very upset I believe, but we’re not. We’re match play and at the moment the scores are tied by some just insulating striking that we’ve had. Uh the fourth hole though is a par five, 533 yards. You’ll see some glorious drone now, but there is a bunker down there that you will notice. 297 to creep the edge of that one and 302 to clear it. Pete, big stick. Yeah, send it. I kind of right here. So, we’re okay. It’s not a double fairway, but you do have like the 60 to the left hand side. So, be the only time you play that hole today. I kind of do with him. I kind of think you just you just whack it, don’t you? Just hopefully you don’t go in it. Yeah, it’s almost like a aim at it and hopefully you don’t hit it straight. Yeah, I’m going to go and wind’s off the right a little bit, so I’m going to go straight down the middle of the fairway and then if it moves. He’s a brave boy. That’s fine. He’s a brave boy. If I strike it like I did the last hole, that’ be absolutely fine. Yeah, I would. Just about what followed after it. I don’t have to worry about a bunker there. That was fading for the longest time and then just had a gentle little drop of draw into the fairway. What a lovely shot, Peter. Thank you. Well played squire. There’s actually two good strikes in a row. God, even Wales has come out to play today. You see? Oh, you can see Wales all the way down here. Majestic place. If you’ve not been, why get yourself down here? It is amazing. Yeah, keep going left. That’s fine. It’s all right. In all fairness, where that flag is, that’s probably a better angle in. That’s why I hit it down there. I’m that talented. Wow, look at you playing chess and we’re all just playing checkers. Just my fries world. Have to be a part of it. 226 yards to the gentleman that is stood five paces left of the flag in the heart of the green. Now the wind is off the right, I believe. Yes, it’s 207 to the front. I’m like, is it a four iron? Is it Peach stretching now? Look at this. Oh no, now he’s rehearsing his swing. He’s just doing some mad lunges then. Uh four iron or seven wood. I could cut a sevenwood up and know that I cover the traps cuz that’s the the main concern for me. Oh no, the wind’s got it. Just right of the stump. The wind really took that one then. 225 yards, which is normally like a really hard four, but with it being a bit chilly, I’m just going to try and cut a hybrid in, which I’m not entirely sure will be enough with the wind. But I think even in that front bunker where the pin is, that’s fine. But I’m going to try and get it middle of the green just to the left. Yeah, that’s left edge of the green. Pretty good strike. One good thing about it being cold, I don’t uh I don’t really think about my swing too much. More wind up there than you think. Around here. My gosh. Casting shadows on my own. Cast no shadow. Go. Thank you. Three pars do weak, don’t they? So there they are. Yeah. Well, I’ve all got my pace control. This putter does look good. It’s very easy to line up. I’ll give it that. I think it looks left when you line it up. Well done. Wow. We all just level pegging all over the place today. Yeah, this is going to be 18 holes, folks. All right, couple of birdies. And then when we all square on the 18th, we’ll have a downing of a pint. Who downs a Guinness? The fastest winds. Well, this par three is 179 downhill. Melo’s just told us with slope it’s actually playing 176. So that’s good. He had it off, Matt. He had it off. Okay, I’m going to go six iron and just try and hit a like a not, you know, not a full not a full rascal, just more of a like a chippy. How far did you say it was? 179. To be honest, I think in this weather like I think it’s just a normal six. Obviously depends what fly you’re going to stick on it, but Exactly. That flight. Wow, that’s a great shot. Golfed. Judging by the length of Pete’s, you’ll have probably about 8 foot coming back and uh you’ll then you’ll then hold that. So, I realistically got to hold mine. done well to stop there. I actually thought that was going to be stone dead. That looks had a little bit more on it. Oh, that looked unbelievable all the way. The flag the flag was like um like a guide, little landing strip. When you actually stand to where I was stood, you can see how much downhill it is. Ah, you don’t really see it from over here. I might need to Good read, Matt. Get in. Get in. Should we just go? I am actually starting to really enjoy looking down at that. Really, I just love the fact you can see like the entire front edge of the putter. That’s interesting. I don’t know why. I just really enjoy just seems it’s so easy to line up. Seeing the front. Yeah. Well, we are just like literally slapping each other’s bottoms today so far. Yeah. Like it’s a real par off. Good one, buddy. Level par for both of us. We got like a a chance to get there. The six hole is 325 yards to the front of the green today, Peter. Straight down draft. Straight down the brizzle. Bunkers are plenty. What’s the flag? 330 335. Uh those guys are kind of next to it there, aren’t they? They are 328. Okay. Better get the 3wood 3wood out. Uh there’s nothing up there, is there? It’s just literally just as well. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Interesting. Great par three that last, isn’t it? Well, the first, as you said, every par three is good. Every 12’s fantastic. Well, the whole course is just 12’s awesome. It’s just such an underrated golf course. There’s still so many people who don’t really know it’s here. Well, the only like literally the only issue if you will, it’s like as we get past this hole, there’s just like a little flat area of the course which is separated from the dunescape. There’s an old Tom Morris green though down on seven. Don’t you be speaking a little old. The thing is it’s not like they’re bad holes. They’re just a little bit far. These are just far more grand and spec uh spectacular, aren’t they? Oh, that was good. But you just don’t get like the amount of courses that you go to where every single hole is a knockout, right? Yeah. Just doesn’t really exist. Like you get the odd one there. Maybe Trump International in Abedine like there’s no literally every hole there could be a single char but every single course has something. Anyway, for more reflections by this could be going in this ball by the way. Oh wow. Great shot. Should be watching these guys. John the green keeper behind. Well, he knows. Well, now he’s put all the pins where he wants them. He’s actually set the course up for his style of play. I knew I was going to do that. I mean, I saw it bounce, but I don’t know what it would have bounced into. Rubbish. Yeah. Trying to release the driver a little bit more and just keep getting that sort of little pulley one that dives down. Hit it more on the inside mat with that feeling and you’ve cracked the game of golf. All right, straight at it. Hello. Hold there. Hold there. Just going to miss the trap. Right. Yeah, just pitch right at the trap. Yeah, easy chip. It’ll be better than mine anyway. Strikes of my drivers for certain. Unreal. Maybe I found the secret of golf. Just just hit it. The fairway finding has stopped. Normal service resumed, but not too bad. Just going to get this new feeling with driver bedded in. Got to trust swinging a bit more to the right and releasing it. But we’ll get there. We got a winter to work on it. And this ain’t the worst in the world. 60 yards. Try and land it up there and let it just run up a bit. I just got a pure flyer. Hit it nice. It came out absolutely fantastic. As if it wasn’t even in the rough. Oh well. Up and down. So into wind, which does help a little bit. So I’m just going to try and pitch this about 2/3 of the way there. Lovely shot. Oh, sit. That’s it. Wow. It went on you, lad. Yeah, it went on you. Came out like completely different than I completely different than I wanted to. Mine came out as if there was no rough there. It was just just glided through the grass. Lovely. They’re actually wrong on the watch because they’ve redone them this year. Yeah. What’s the uh they made them deeper. What’s the thing with Tom Morris? How many surviving greens? Six. Six. So five or six something like that on here on this course. Yeah. Five. Five. Five original old Tom grades still survive. Right. Bash it at the cathedral and let it come back. Stay there. Stay there. Get past Oh, wow. There was a moment. There was a moment there. I’m quite surprised that um actually got that right. I thought he was going to pitch where it like where the ball is now. I think the wind’s relatively strong. I’m going to set mine out like at that left bunker. I think Yeah, I went to the big steeple in the distance at the dome. It’s a good shot. There is another hole. I think that bunker’s 290. There’s another hole to the left as well. I’ll see even if I do kind of pull. You do have half of the whirl. Oh wow. Get right of it. Yeah, that was such a heel strike. Get right of it. Was that very much out of the heel? Yeah, that was a Yeah, that was that was a weird one, folks. Not finches. He’s just been done by the gym going frier. Well, after a actually really bad T-shot, I’ve uh you’ve done all right. Away with it. Yeah, I’ve got back to normal. This is I think the most fairways I’ve hit in around this early in I think all season two. And you know what? I’ve gone to a longer driver shaft. So going short, it’s all a lie, kids. Hey, listen. You just length does matter. Absolutely. 250. I’ve got a little bit shorter this year and it’s been absolutely revolutionary. So don’t listen to that. You don’t know what I was talking about. Kind of hoping I get a bit of a knuckle on this. I want to be landing this like 2 220 kind of in line with those guys in the background. And hopefully it just like trundles this way. Oh yeah. Just didn’t quite get that first kick, but overall pretty uh pretty happy with that. Right. 225 for me. I’m going to go four iron and just aim down the left and let the wind push it back on. Be phenomenal. I could go in. That’s well shot. Oh. Wow. Nice shot. Very good. Tell you what, that’s two of the best shots I think I’ve hit all year. Just sounded a bit like bit funny with the strike there. That was out of the middle, you cheeky booger. Maybe just sounded unusual for you, maybe. I don’t know. Yeah, you’ve not heard me hit the middle in a a year. That was the middle. Did exactly as I I wanted to do that. I’m I’m almost empty. a proper like I put it do like a proper middle of the summer shot. Now this is I think this is something that old Tom would approve of. So he’s built this green so I can do this. This is for you Tom. Well done. Yeah, too bad. Before I nearly close, but must admit it’s quite a weird uh quite a weird shot that can’t remember the last time I did like a proper off the green putt. It was either a putt, a rescue, or a sixiron. Or if you’re an American, get your lob wedge out. Try and spin it up near the Yeah, the lob wedge was the first thing I did, Paul. So, come on. Up the hill. Not much in it. Don’t leave the hole. Oh, I pulled this as well. Just a bit of a pull. Yeah. Take it away. Oh, it hit the same side as the hole as mua. Just at the end. It just just drifted. Oh dear. Oh, one up. Well, one up and one under. It’s been a very very scratch game at the moment. Yeah, it’s very professional. We needed that little movement there. We needed that little movement to get us in before the turn. And hopefully we can carry on in this form, this vein of form. 387 yards today. A little bit into wind. So I I could have a go, but I’m just going to lay up, I think. What’s that trap? Sorry. 250 to that trap. Two 250 is a bit of an horrible number. Yeah, it is into wind and it’s cold. I’m going to aim at it and play a slizzy 3-wood. Well, perfect. It was not quite like the shape I wanted. I just It’s done the job. I got the heel a tad. Is that a mini driver? It is, mate. Oh, you beast you. Same thing. Just going to te it low and just what? And heal it. Heal it. Yeah. and heal the life out of it. Seems to be the way to play it. Oh, just settle a touch. So, your mistake now is you’ve hit it too pure at the bunker. Just a touch. I can still see it. Just Okay. The only problem like do you find like when you relax too much all of a sudden the ball flies about 20 yards further? Yeah. or that came out like an absolute rocket. All right, then. Good shot. Well, we carry on our fine vein of form of hitting fairways. 165 into. Do you know what shot this needs to be played like a par three, the six iron? Just a bit of a flat flight off speed. The green’s a big bowl as well. So, I think just keeping it a bit lower, I get a better chance of getting it closer. Feeding. Yeah, that’s pretty good. It’s in the heart of the green and it’s taken the slope. So, we should have a good look at birdie. So, 140. I think it’s just like a normal wedge. Like you fattening and that going off the back of that bunker. He could carry the bunker. We’ll see the other angle where it pitches and actually screws back a bit. Right.
