Presidential granddaughter and recent University of Miami golf commit Kai Trump will be a special contributor next weekend for the broadcast of the Optum Golf Channel Games.
The event is billed as a live, made-for-TV primetime event featuring Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler leading four-man teams competing in a series of unique challenges. The 18-year-old Trump will participate in challenge tutorials with commentator Johnson Wagner as well as the trophy ceremony.
McIlroy’s team consists of Shane Lowry, Luke Donald and Haotong Li. Scheffler will lead Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns and Luke Clanton in the competition. The five challenges are the Timed Drive Competition, Timed Short Game Competition, 14-Club Challenge, Timed Shootout and Captain’s Challenge.
Current PGA Tour pro Keith Mitchell will serve as an analyst alongside longtime Golf Channel commentator Steve Sands, who will provide play-by-play commentary.
Smylie Kaufman, Brad Faxon and Wagner will serve as on-course commentators, providing insight and live interviews with players throughout the event.
The event is being held at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, FL, so there’s a chance the elder Trump makes an appearance, as well.
Kai Trump, who sometimes plays with her golf-loving grandfather, made her LPGA debut last week in the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. The University of Miami recruit, who played under a waiver, shot a 13-over 83 in round one and improved to a 5-over 75 in her second round on Friday. She did not make the cut.
The Optum Golf Channel Games will be shown on the Golf Channel and USA Network on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
