New Ross Seniors
Once again Martin Burke got his weather forecast spot on – just – despite a few in the doubting Thomas category.
New Ross Seniors turned out in force on Thursday despite misty conditions for their weekly 14-hole scramble.
Results: 1, Martin Murphy, Willie Whitty, Donie Cody, Joe O’Farrell, 79 points; 2, Bob Doyle, Tommy Kehoe, Pat Walsh, Paddy O’Shea, 77 points; 3, Jimmy Furlong, Seamus Bolger, John F. Roche, Martin Forristal.
Golf was succeeded by our Seniors AGM, with Martin Burke taking the chair in the absence of Jamesie Murphy, who is continuing his recuperation after a recent health setback. It’s good to know he is home and that his colleagues, Michael Brennan, John Kennedy and Denis Murphy, are also on the mend.
Tony Harford (Treasurer) confirmed that though weekly numbers were down, the Seniors account within NRGC was in a sound financial position.
As has become the norm, New Ross Seniors made financial contributions to four local organisations as well as sponsoring a club competition.
Jamesie Murphy was thanked for organising successful away outings to Dungarvan, Courtown, Faithlegg (two) and Woodenbridge, with Billy Redmond overseeing collection of green fees, liaising with clubs and hotel (Woodenbridge), procurement of prizes and distribution.
Some 31 Seniors travelled to Woodenbridge with 21 staying over for the two nights. A truly wonderful two days of very enjoyable golf ensued, helped enormously by the away format (best drive 1-18), plus nearest the pin prizes on all par threes each day and prizes for the top three teams, also each day. All were presented on the second night after a very enjoyable dinner in the hotel.
Early in 2026 Jamesie will confirm the away outings calendar.
Next Thursday we have our annual dinner in the clubhouse at 2 p.m. approximately, preceded by golf over the usual 14 holes, but on a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
Those Seniors who cannot play golf are welcome to join us for dinner. If not registered, contact Martin Burke.
