Donald Trump may have developed a reputation for being a cheater on the golf course but it’s claimed he is at least the best president to have ever played the sport.

The 79-year-old is renowned for his love of golf and the frequency with which he enjoys a round or two alongside his White House duties, having taken regular trips to his various resorts across the nation, all at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer.

President Trump, however, takes no issue with boasting about his latest golfing achievements, even if many of them have been shut down by those who have witnessed him in action, or just simply don’t believe a word he says.

But given how much the Republican plays golf, there is some assumption that he must be at least half decent, especially given he claims to have won further trophies every time he updates the media on his on-course exploits.

As a result, many Americans have been left wondering what Trump’s handicap is, and while nobody expects him to be on par with professionals, he certainly ranks higher than most would expect.

According to the Golf Handicap Information Network, President Trump’s official golf handicap is a 2.8. This is the lowest handicap of any U.S. president in history, and suggests that there may be some truth to what Trump says about his own game.

However, one man who needs no invitation to shut down Trump’s golf scores and achievements is author Rick Reilly, who famously wrote the 2019 book ‘Commander in Cheat’ about the president’s alleged antics on the golf course.

Just last week, Reilly dispelled Trump’s claims that he had won 38 golf championships on a Thanksgiving call with service members from his Mar-a-Lago estate.

“I’ve won 38 golf championships and I don’t get to practice very much,” Trump said last week, having previously claimed he won 36 club championships. “I beat a 27-year-old kid… I’ve won 38 of them, every one of them legitimately.”

Reacting on X, Reilly soon hit back with: “Ha! Trump adds about 10 every time he brings this up. Problem is, he hasn’t actually won any [club championships]. None. You beat Trump, he throws you out of the club. It’s like when you let your toddler beat you in a foot race. He thinks it’s real.”

When Reilly wrote his book, ‘Commander-in-Cheat’, it was during Trump’s first term as U.S. President. In the book, Reilly noted that Trump claims to be a 3-handicap, almost never loses, and has won an astonishing 18 club championships.

However, when the two unexpectedly ended up playing a round together on a day Reilly was meant to caddie for him, due to the president having nobody to play with, the writer saw him for who he truly is, none more so than when he claimed to have won 18 club championships during one of his 2016 election campaign speeches.

Reilly described it as “a s——- lie” because Trump ‘plays by himself’ whenever he opens a new course, and ‘declares himself the first club champion’. “He even said: ‘This is against the best players in the club. No strokes given’. What? I played with you. You’re a 10-handicapper at best. There’s no way you’re winning a club championship,” Reilly said.
