A Special Celebration Night was held at City of Derry Golf Club on Friday last when the achievements of esteemed member Naoimh Quigg were recognised and included congratulating her on her remarkable year as Lady Captain of Royal Portrush Golf Club during the recent Open Championship.
A capacity crowd of club members were treated to a lite bite on arrival before being enjoying a relaxed conversation with Naoimh hosted by former captain Kevin Doherty asking the questions.
Naoimh started her golfing career at City of Derry in the mid-1980s when her father Maurice was club captain. Her honours list and association with City of Derry include victory in the Ulster Championship in 2006. She also captained Ireland, and won the Irish Open. Naoimh also held the distinguished post of lady captain at her hometown club as well as at Portrush.
Her extended list of achievements included the Ulster Girls Inter Provincial team; Irish Girls International team; Irish Women’s Strokeplay Champion; Irish u-21 European team; English University’s Team; Ulster Women’s inter Provincial Team; North West Scratch Cup winner; Ulster Women’s Championship; R&A Curtis Cup Selector; R&A Junior and Women’s Vagliano Team Selection; and Captain of Irish Women’s International Team.
The affable golfer reflected on her career highlights and gave an insight into the experience of the Open Championship and the role that City of Derry Golf Club played in her golfing journey. Naoimh also had advice for up-and-coming young golfers on how they should conduct themselves, have belief and practice hard to achieve their goals.

During questions, highlight of the night was her selected fourball – former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane was the first name out of the hat!
Part of Friday night’s celebrations also included the club’s Mega Raffle with a number of winners in attendance to pick up their prizes from club captain Adrian Johnston.

At the close of proceedings, all members retreated to the Hall of Fame where a plaque was unveiled highlights the Derry golfer’s list of achievements over her career.
