Let me start by saying that I know these are supposed to rust, but at this point there was a bit too much for my liking, and the oil can finish had all but disappeared. After finding these on Facebook Marketplace for $150 bucks I decided to refinish the set. There were some helpful posts here showing how to do it, but most folks who refinish clubs have a garage with a bench grinder, and I live in a city apartment – so that wasn't an option.
Process
The first thing I did was remove the clubs from their shafts using a small butane torch. I don't have a vice, so got my brother to help me out and it was a piece of cake.
Next, I soaked the clubs in white vinegar overnight. This got rid of most of the surface rust, but the clubs had a bunch of surface pitting on the soles. The faces were in fantastic shape.
I used a scotch brite pad and wire wheel on my cordless drill to remove as many of the dings and dents as I could, knowing that without a belt-grinder I wouldn't be able to get to 100%. I'm OK with that because I know they'll get scuffed up when I use them. After that I sanded starting at 150 grit and worked up to 1000 with the scotch brite pad in between passes to remove scratches.
Used the Birchwood Casey gun blueing kit to apply blueing to the club heads. I did 2 coats, and dunked in cold water to wash them off after I finished a roughly 30 second application for every head.
After letting the clubs sit for a day or two, I did the paint fill with regular acrylic paint I bought at Dick Blick. I didn't love the color options that came with "golf club" paint, and many people seem to have had success with acrylic, so I used that for both the white paint and copper accents.
They're not perfect, but for a first attempt I think they came out much better than they went in!

Those look sick OP
I’m seriously considering a sand blaster so I can do this and refinish the faces.
