The PGA Tour announced in October that the PGA Tour will be making a stop in Austin next year.
In partnership with Good Good Golf, the Tour has released a brand new tournament, the Good Good Championship, which will debut during the 2026 FedExCup season. The tournament will be hosted at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa’s Fazio Canyons Course. It will take place Nov. 9-15.
The world’s best golfers will return to Austin for the first time since 2023, when the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play tournament brought the golf world to Austin Country Club, which has served as the host site since 2016. The Match Play stood out for its unique format, the season’s only event that saw players compete in a head-to-head bracket rather than the traditional lowest score to par stroke play format. Scottie Scheffler, a former Longhorn, climbed to world No. 1 for the first time after winning the event in 2022. The tournament was discontinued the following year, leaving Austin with no professional golf scene.
Now, a new Austin tournament arrives at a different Austin course. Preparing for a PGA tournament is no easy task, especially when the course has never hosted an event before. Still, the message across Omni Barton Creek Country Club’s staff is simple: excellence.
“As always, our approach is guided by the principle, ‘The difference between good and great is the attention to the details,’” Tony Miller, Omni Barton Creek Country Club’s director of agronomy, said in an email statement.
The detail-driven process of preparation starts way before the first tee shot, as Miller and his staff will be readying the course starting 12 to 16 months beforehand. The Good Good Championship serves as the introduction of Omni Barton Creek Country Club to the broader golf community.
“Every element – from turf conditioning to sightline management – is planned and executed with the expectation of delivering a championship-caliber experience for players, caddies, spectators, and sponsors,” Miller said.
Then, during the actual week of play, Miller plans to expand the agronomy team from 20 people to 60 team members to ensure precise setup routines in addition to working with the PGA Tour’s agronomy team to determine green speeds and rough thickness, and density that best test the world’s top professionals.
Moreover, the Good Good Championship will also serve as a groundbreaking crossover between professional golf and media golf, as it is the first tournament hosted by a digital-first golf media brand. With 2 million YouTube subscribers and 1 million Instagram followers, Good Good has emerged as one of the leading contributors to golf’s recent surge in popularity.
“Good Good Golf is at the forefront of the content creator movement with their popular apparel and the authenticity and energy of their content helping to make golf more approachable and exciting for younger players and fans,” Ian Helm, Good Good Championship tournament director, said in an email. “By blending entertainment with sport, Good Good is helping expand the game’s reach and ensure golf remains relevant and inspiring for generations to come.”
With four championship courses on property, guests and club members at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa will be able to enjoy continuous play while the Fazio Canyons Course is brought to tournament conditions.
