Officials will vote next week on an increase in the trail fee at executive golf courses in The Villages.
Daily trail fees for residents are currently $4, but are set to increase to $5, according to proposals to go before the Amenity Authority Committee and the Project Wide Advisory Committee.
The current $4 fee has been in place since 2012 and has not been increased for 13 years.
In addition, the trail fees for guests during peak season (Nov. 1 through April 30) will be increased from $11 to $12 and from $7 to $8 for guests during off-peak season (May 1 to Oct. 31.)
The need for the increase is being attributed to increased costs for maintenance of the courses.
There are several reasons that the District charges trail fees for players using their own golf carts. Trail fees help to balance the budget for operating and maintaining the executive golf courses, help to cover the costs for ongoing repairs and maintenance as golf cars contribute to the deterioration of course infrastructure and the turf itself. Trail fees are also used to contribute to funds for capital investments such as renovations, course improvements, replacing cart paths, and enhancing draining systems.
