What Low Handicap Golf HONESTLY Looks Like at Harrogate Golf Club [Every Shot]

Welcome everyone to the beautiful if autuminal looking Harriet Golfer. One of the best courses in the area up there potentially with Oakdale and Panel. However, the last four holes measure over 1,700 yards in pars. So that is an unbelievably difficult finishing stretch. So let’s see how a low handicap golfer can get on. Well, to walk up to the course in November and get summer teas and summer greens is delightful, but it’s only 306 yards off the first, so butter knife to go with it. Wouldn’t mind a good strike. And that’s a very, very good strike indeed. I’ve got the sniffles, but that hasn’t stopped me there. I’m deliriously happy with that start. Got 73 yards. And if every hole looks like this and my golf plays that way. We’re on to a winner. Well, it’s safe. I tugged. It might be a bit deep, actually. Well, for one reason or another, I rather overpowered that approach. I am on the green, but something like 50 ft back up the slope. Luckily, I had time for a few practice putts and I hit a few from this range. So, no excuses really. Get up. Yeah, not quite a tap in, but a good effort nonetheless. Well, I got up close and it’s more like 3 feet, so nerves are wobbling early, but this would be a good confidence boost. Got it. Good start. Good solidish start. It’s not really. I had 73 yards, but it’s a par. I’m happy. Well, we scrambled for par on a 306 yard hole. And now we have a 406y par4. Stroke index two. Trees up the left and a lot of deep looking bunkers up the right. So straight’s probably a good option here. Well, I was panicking a little bit, but that’s wonderful. That is good to see. The good form seems to be continuing. Right, we’re well into November now, and this looks absolutely class. I knew it would be good, but 111 103. Wouldn’t mind a good one. And the greens are massive, so if I miss it, I’m not very good at golf. I thought the wind was right to left. It’s just hung out. Oh my goodness. I’ve actually rolled out a tiny bit. Good shot, though. These greens are really, really good, especially for this time of the year. I’ve just got a very much swinging right to left and slightly downhill putt. Not one to be aggressive with. Not that I ever am. Not as quick as I thought. In fact, not quick at all. But this is more like the the tapping length that I would like. Maybe not quite a tapping. Right. That was a well played hole. That was the second hardest on the course by stroking next. So, good four, good start. How good does this path three look? Nicely treelined in the approach and 160 flag. So, it’s very much on the limit of my aine in cooler weather, but I think short is probably better than long. That’s my guess anyway. It’s not my best struck eight. It’s clinging on the right. I think I’m putting Well, I was writing that a full eight was optimistic. I know I didn’t strike it the best, but I’ve come up way short. I’ve opted for putter from the fringe, which is not usually my forte, and I’ve not reached yet. So, going to give this a bit of well. Let’s try and get it to the hole. Let’s make a par, please. It’s got to go. That’s another great layup. Oh dear. Yes. Solid as a rockish. It’s not solid at all, but we’re somehow clinging on to level. This is my kind of hole. It’s about 250 to the flag. Looks like all the trouble’s short to lay up and we’re obviously going to go for it. Three wood in hand. 230 front. It’s a little soft drawer off the middle of that bunker. I pulled it. There’s a very big conifer up there. That looks worrying. Thankfully, I’ve belted a tree and dropped down. Oh dear. Well, I’m lucky in that my ball has dropped straight down instead of ending up in the bund over there. The difficulty now is I have a bunker to go over. I’ve got to keep it low. So, I’m going to have to just go slightly right of the flag. That’s absolutely the best I could have possibly done. I managed to keep it on the back edge. Right. Well, I’m staring down my first downhill putt. Let’s see if I can not leave this one short like every other putt I’ve had. I’m going right edge and to hell with what I saw on Paul’s shot. Did go left. Damn it, Paul. I reached. That’s a bonus. We’re making inroads on the greens. After that T-shot, I’m delighted with a four and still level somehow. Another lovely par three 190 plane 175. Just going to try and land my seven somewhere near as it’s downhill. Let it roll up, which seems to have been the case so far. I’m expecting some carnage soon with quite a few short holes at the start. Great for line. It needs to go. I think it really needs to go. Well, my ego was absolutely desperate to hit seven there, but it was always six. Fairly routine chip, though. Just slightly uphill and then down after the hole. So, nestle it close. Generally feel more confident doing this than I do with a putter in hand, to be honest. And that’s why not quite a tap in, but should hold it. Praying for a gimme, but that doesn’t really come on the YouTube tour, unfortunately. That was full-blown yip central to be honest. It was coming from the outset. Ah dear, one over. Not to worry. Still a decent start. Well, to follow up a dirty, dirty lip out, we have a 375 yd par4. The fairway sort of moves from the right. So, I’m going to have to keep it up the left. If I can bring it down on the marker post, that’s usually not a bad option if I don’t hurt myself in the process. That is a fantastic drive, especially considering the chaos that happened on the green just before. Here’s a question for you viewers. How is it that I can hit the ball on a string 280 yards and yet I can’t hit a twoft putt where I’m aiming? I love golf. I genuinely do. And I hope it’s relatable. And if you are enjoying and you’re new to the channel, don’t forget to like and subscribe and hype if you have access to the feature. It really helps me grow and bring you more videos like this from wonderful golf courses. 82 yards. Good yardage for the 56. Time to open the birdie account. I think mine’s good. It’s a tiny bit deep again. somehow grown muscles. Who’d have thought? I have just noticed there’s a puff of breeze down for that approach, but there was a time not that long ago where my 56 would go 90 yards full swing and I only chipped that and it’s gone 90 yards. However, uphill birdie put with not a great deal of break looking at it. Oh dear. Putting was great on the practice green, not so much on the course. This is uh not what you need after missing one. Probably shorter than this on the last. And it broke right to left, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to go left to right. So firm and straight. That’s more like it. Straight in the middle. Still battling. Right. What you need after feeling sick over many, many putts, a shortish par five, or at least it’s playing downhill. So, very getable with a good T-shot. Full of confidence, though. Let’s smash one up the middle. That’s pretty much identical to Paul’s just up the left. Struck nicely. Good start. This looks so cool with all the leaves on the ground. 181. Perfect yardage for the sixiron. Struck it beautifully. Be good. Oh, it’s short. Three yards right. And that was going to be nestling close to the flag. But that’s golf front bunker. Well, if we’re being hyper critical, my sixiron was about one groove low and I’ve ended up in front bunker. It’s not too bad. There’s a lot of slope back to front in the green, so I don’t really want to go long. Yeah, that’s as good as I’ve got out the bunker. That was very fantastic. Both the sand and the shot. We’re back. Back to level somehow. Come on. Right, we are turning the screw. Following that birdie. That was lovely. Played the hole nicely. Long power 4 390 up the hill. Bunkers everywhere. Don’t know if I can get over them. So, I’m just going to try and hit a fade off the flag. Yeah, that’s as good as I can do. If that ends up in the bunker, I’ll be distraught. I think it’s brilliant. Again, driving the ball beautifully. And now we have 90 yards or 89 playing 90, which would be a perfect sand wedge yardage, except I’m on quite a big ups slope. So, that’ll take the ball left and up, and I don’t want to get it up in the air too much. So, it’s a 52, a chippy one. Uhoh, that’s way right. Just far enough left to get away with it, but not a good shot. Well, being that I’m more like Edward Scissor Hands with a putter, probably better here with a 52. Gently downhill and sweeping right to left. Wow, that’s really quick. just kind of shot out a bit low with a bit of spin, but not enough. It’s a funny old game because I’m now sat here thinking if I’d have just played the same shot with the 56, it would have been much closer. This will be semi catastrophic if I don’t make par after that drive. But we will. Come on. got away with it. Still level. Well, I was expecting a long hole at some point. Wasn’t expecting this. Just a nice easy finish to the front nine of uh 210 yards. So, it’s a very, very well struck four iron. It’s a bit thin again just up the right. It’s not a terrible miss. It’s just a chip along the green, but going to be tricky. I don’t know what you guys think, but a hole as long as this in a par three, I think, is the hardest. And I’m really struggling for power here. I’m going to need some very nice mitts. Kind of did what I wanted. Just hit it a little too hard. Well, what 10 ft too hard? In fact, a little bit more. More like 13 or 14 ft if I had to guess. Makeable though. Just have to pretend it’s a birdie put and not leave it short. Straight as an arrow. Not hard enough either. And I feel like I kind of talked myself into that. But that was coming from the outset making a a bogey and being one over for the front nine. But I’m quite happy with it to be honest. Long way to go. Okay, little reset halfway through. One over. Plenty of opportunity to get it back. Although this is a very narrow hold. Right. That massive tree looming. So, I just want to be right of that. Pured it. It’s right though. It’s not going to be OB. It’s short of the tree. Lucky for me, my strategy was on point there. I’ve come up about three yards short of the bunker, 10 yards away from the OB. Perfectly clear shot in 132. Should be a nice wedge. I’ve struck it well. I flailed it again. Needs to get over the bunker. Well, again, hit the back of the bunker and should be on the green. But a long way from home. Well, yet again, I found the green, but miles away from the hole. My proximity must be enormous. It’s like 50 ft uphill, slightly left to right. My favorite. Oh no. Didn’t turn at all. Oh, why do I keep doing this to myself? Thing is, I’ve got all the information in the world. If I set this off online, it’s going in. Simple. What the heck just happened there? Scrap everything I said before. I thought that was right edge. Missed it a cup right. Not my best put by any stretch, but it is a bogey. Two in a row, two over. Ouch. Okay, I’m not going to be disheartened. I’m having an apple and we have a par five on a weird mat that is kind of grass and kind of not. Slap it up the left with a little fade. Go for the green in two. Get off the bogey train. Kind of flapped at that, but I think it might be good. Well, that’s a lovely view. And now I’m going to hit a lovely five iron, 196 flag adjusted from 202. Let’s see if I can just hit a soft draw from the right edge. Good strike. Just slightly left of it. That’s really good. Really, really good. We’re on the green. Putting for eagle. Right. Two great shots to get to here. Would love to just nestle it tight and make birdie, but I really want to make it for eagle. That would be very good for the program. Touch of a baboon’s backside. Don’t know what that means, but zero out of 10 for execution there. That went that way. I like the aggression. Well, I did. I don’t anymore. What an absolute toddler of a man. Ouch. Well, this is a beautiful hole and I’m changing the narrative. I’ve been playing like an absolute clown on the greens especially and I’m going to be brilliant from now on. 140. Nice smooth nine iron. Just draw it in from the middle of the green. Stay there. Uh-oh. Just left of it. Should be green bound. Uh, if my eyes don’t deceive me, that’s going to be a slippery putt. I’ll just go make it. Where are we going? What are we doing? Straight downhill. Plus, it literally went sideways at the end. How do you judge for that? the scene. I think the uh the rain coming down is pretty apt as to my current mood, but I will not give up. Aside from the fact that we now have a 460 yard par4 stroke index one. Yeah, we won’t talk about the helicopter, but the T-shot is great. At least I think it is. Thing is, I just want to play well for you guys and reward you for sticking around, but it’s very hard. I am enjoying it though. It’s a lovely course. just can’t put right to the matter at hand. 168 flag doesn’t look like going long’s a good idea. So, I’ve got my seven. If it comes up short, fine. Was again a bit thin. Looks big. I can’t say I was expecting to go long on a 460 yard par4, but here we are. That’s almost exactly where I wanted to land it. It’s pretty good. Surely I can’t miss another. Even that was a tiny bit of a tug, but we made a par. Come on. On the hardest hole on the course. Well, besides the rain, another lovely looking par three and it’s 150. So, it’s a nice little eight iron. And Paul and I both kind of agree that especially off the tea and where they put the tea boxes, it’s very much a fader friendly course, which is fine for me off the tea. I’ve gone straight at it. Be the right number. Oh, that stopped very quickly. Good shot again. 35 ft downhill. Just put a good stroke on it. That’s all I’m asking for. Better stroke. Absolutely horrific leave. Just a bad read somehow. Can’t go to the claw, can I? You can’t gone to the claw. That snapped. Believe it or not, I hit that bang on my line just left of center. Running theme on the back nine. I swear to everybody that’s made it this far, I am not doing it on purpose. It’s just one of those days. I went to the claw and still missed it. Anyway, just lash this down the middle. Pretty narrow. 420. So, I need the driver. Just trying to bring it down on the left side of this little bridgy thing. And smash it. Oh, that’s very tight up the left. That’s gone into the red stakes. And I’ve snapped my tea. I’m sorry, everyone. It’s getting worse. Pure unadulterated horror. You guys can see the green. I’m struggling. I’m hooding down an eight, having to hit a hook. I’ve taken a drop. So, it’s my third and I’m capitulating on the back nine. I’ve done it. I’m actually left of the flag. Brilliant shot. I think I’m on the left side of the green somehow. Well, the good news, guys, is I’ve played a wonders shot with the Aine to get to here. The bad news is I’m on the green, so I’m putting. But after everything that’s happened today, I’ll probably come away with a four here. Finally, a good effort. It’s the first time in a long time I feel like I’ve had a tap in. Unfortunately, it is for a bogey after the drop, but I played that hole quite well really, aside from the T-shot, which isn’t like me. And that’s five over. Here we go then. After all the shenanigans that have gone before, we now have what is renowned as the hardest finishing stretch in the area, if not further a field. 440 yards up the hill. That helps. Bombed up the right edge. Absolutely superb drive. 155 to the flag. So, it’s a nice eight iron. Don’t think this little hump is an issue, but we’ll soon find out. Let’s plunk it on the green really close to the hole. Just go in. That’s all over it. Oh yes. Come to play on hole 16. Well, that was an absolute cracker jack eight iron. And now we have about seven or eight feet for a birdie, which would be incredible. I’d definitely be gaining on the field on this hole, that’s for sure. I’ve got it. Wow, what a turn up for the books. I’ve got one back on a very tough par four. Back to four over. I’m actually playing to my handicap. Don’t feel like I am, but I am. Well, that was a nice turn up for the books. I didn’t think anyone saw that coming. I was in the doldrums and now I’m flying. But again, another difficult hole. Pretty narrow. 400 yards. Just at the green side left hand bunker, I think. Nailed no fade. Oh, well that’s a bit more yellow paint to add to my golf ball after whacking a tree. After clobbering the trees, I’ve got away with this. I think I can get over with the 52. It’s 126. Definitely over. Right at it. Another birdie chance. Wow. Well, this would be quite frankly unbelievable if I could go two in a row. Oh, Paul’s had enough. Oh, wow. Yeah, I thought that had a chance halfway and it really dove off. That was very Yorkshire par save pretty good. I’m very happy with that. If I can finish one under on these last four Oh, wait. No, I made a bogey ear, didn’t I? That’s bird in the last. As always, guys, I want to know what you think of the course. I know a few guys are fairly local. I absolutely love it. I have not seen a course in this good a condition in early to mid November ever, I don’t think. And this is a very tough hole. It just looks narrow and I need a good drive, which we will get. Maybe hopefully I will. Oh no, got late. That was a tired swing. I think I’m in play, but only just unfortunately it’s a drop. Playing my third 150. Got to keep it low under these tree limbs. So, I’m just going to punch a seven. I could still make birdie. What a golf shot. I just hit like a low riser and it’s maybe 10 ft short if I’m not blind. Well guys, I hope you’ve enjoyed this. The weather has just about played ball and I’ve absolutely loved Harriut. What a wonderful golf course, lovely clubhouse. And this for a ridiculous part to keep me at four over. And I wouldn’t put it past me making it to be honest after the roller coaster of emotions we’ve had. Hope you’ve enjoyed. That is ridiculous. 73 I believe for four over. Thank you to Paul. Thank you to Harriut. See you next time. Goodbye. What the hell just

Today I’m taking on one of the toughest finishing stretches I’ve ever played — a final four holes that are as beautiful as they are unforgiving, all wrapped in the ridiculous yellows and oranges of peak Autumn. It’s the kind of setting that makes you forget how hard the golf actually is… until you step onto the tee.

  1. This course saves its toughest test for the finish… and with those autumn colours popping, it’s as beautiful as it is brutal. 🍁🔥

    Appreciate you all watching 🙌

  2. What a lovely looking course, especially for November in Yorkshire! Some great courses around Harrogate! Well battled too 👍

  3. Isn't it just wonderful how different every round of golf is?😄
Not missing the grim UK weather one bit right now…🥶🤧☔

  4. Played HGC a few times and it is tougher than it looks -often finished feeling beaten up!
Well played and I m sure the putter will behave next time

  5. Was literally going to ask you to do Harrogate yesterday, and here it is! Used to be a member there, but never played it as well as you did. Great to see it lookingso well!

  6. Jonny, I left the area 10 years ago to live abroad. Every single one of your videos brings back great memories for me. On top of that your videos are so easy to watch, great golf with no ego. Love ‘em, keep it up.

  7. Great looking track. The good thing about videoing your round, you'll soon see what's going on with your putting stroke 😉
Thanks for posting another enjoyable round.

  8. Jonny yet again some great golf from yourself. It definitely looks a tight track and think you played well as you always do. You’re a great putter and I suppose you can’t hole them all. And as Jack Nicklaus would say ‘that’s the game of golf.
Well played Jonny. Looking forward to your videos of summer golf ⛳️

  9. Really enjoyed that Jonny. The putter went a tad rogue on you, but you battled on fantastically. If I could be greedy, I'd love your vids to be a little bit longer, but hey, I'm grateful for them. Cheers

  10. Hi Jonny. Hope you’re well. Been at the range 2/3 times a week and having golfing lessons as per your advice. Genuinely love your videos. Please play a course in the Wakefield area!

    Joe

  11. Good video and round considering the weather conditions. But more importantly, good for you to hang in and get a round in the books. Question, why the drop on #18? That parallel drainage ditch is OB. The white OB stakes clearly mark that entire right side. I only see one rule you could invoke that would result in playing a shot from where you dropped and played. While possible, it does seem highly implausible in this situation. Perhaps you simply didn't wish to walk back to the tee to hit your 3rd shot? What am I missing here? Straighten me out.

  12. 4 over what were you doing 😁 Great stuff as always. Well played and another lovely looking course.
