I’m not a master criminal *wink wink*, but if I were, I probably wouldn’t walk down a busy street in a bright orange coat lugging stolen goods over my shoulder for the entire world to see. But that’s what a Scottish thief did this week when they made off with £3.5k worth of golf clubs—just under $5,000 for us Americans—stolen out of a trunk of a parked car. Needless to say, this is the most expensive parking ticket golfer Grant Ager will ever pay.
The 59-year-old Ager parked his car on Perth Road in Dundee for a quick venture to the Urban Botanical florist. When he got back the trunk to his car was open with his golf clubs nowhere to be seen. According to The Courier, “He believes the vehicle was locked, but says the boot may have either opened unintentionally or been accessed using a key-jamming device.”
“I’m absolutely certain the car was locked,” Ager said. “I’d only been away for about ten minutes, and when I came back out of Urban Botanical, the boot was wide open. My first thought was just, ‘Oh no.’ The golf gear wasn’t even visible – he must’ve been raking through the boot.”
Making matters even worse, CCTV captured footage of the bandit moments after the robbery walking down the street in broad daylight carrying the Ping bag. He didn’t seem to be in any hurry. Slow and steady wins the race.
What was stolen exactly? Well, a treasure trove of clubs, including:
Callaway 5-wood with a Dornoch head cover
A dark grey/black Ping cart bag
“It’s unbelievable someone would do that at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon on a busy road,” Ager added. “If he’s willing to lift golf clubs in broad daylight, it makes you wonder what else he’s capable of.”
Scottish police are investigating the crime with inquiries “at an early stage and ongoing.”
