Harewood Downs Golf Club in Buckinghamshire has invested in its future by funding development courses at the Club Management Association of Europe (CMAE) for four key employees.
Over the last two months, Harewood Downs staff travelled as far as Barcelona, Helsinki and St Andrews to take part in accredited courses alongside their counterparts from venues across the continent.
The Amersham-based club views staff development as an essential part of its long-term mission to grow the game of golf in the local community and has invested in a series of CMAE’s world-renowned MDPs (Management Development Programmes), each carefully matched with the most appropriate member of the team.
Clubhouse manager Craig Lewis, who earned his Club Management Diploma (CMDip) from the CMAE earlier this year, spent October and November expanding his skillset with a specialised course in strategy and leadership.
Jess Frewin – who works in golf operations and social media at the Buckinghamshire venue – headed to Birmingham for a five-day masterclass in club operations, while head chef Andy Walsh took the same course in Finland late last month.
Finally, Harewood Downs golf operations manager Connor Jones attended a golf management course at the home of golf in Scotland.
Matt Mayfield CCM, general manager at Harewood Downs Golf Club, said: “The CMAE has so much knowledge to impart, and we are confident that these courses will benefit not only each member of staff, but by extension the club as a whole for many years to come. Craig, Jess, Andy and Connor are already very valuable members of the team, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their roles in the months and years to come.”

Founded in 1907, Harewood Downs Golf Club is located in the Misbourne Valley among the rolling Chiltern Hills and offers an 18-hole course that plays to 6,008 yards and a par of 69 off the white tees and 5,576 yards and a par 72 off the forward red tees.
