It’s time for the 2025 Hero World Challenge.

The unofficial PGA Tour event, which kicks off golf’s silly season, begins Thursday at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas. Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1, is a two-time defending champion. The event is hosted by Tiger Woods. This year will be the 10th time it has been held at Albany.

However, the event’s host will not be teeing it up this week.

Tiger Woods injury update

Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion, ruptured his left Achilles while ramping up training to return to competitive golf in March, and in October, he underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery in his L4/5 Lumbar spine for lower back symptoms.

There’s no timetable for Woods’ return. He has been seen in public recently following son Charlie at his high school golf tournaments in Florida and is expected to be in attendance this week in the Bahamas.

How many times has Tiger Woods missed the Hero?

This will be the seventh time Tiger Woods has missed the Hero in his career and fourth time in the past five years. He made his debut in 2000, when the event was held in the spring and again in the winter. He missed playing in 2008, 2009, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2024 and now 2025.

How many times has Tiger Woods won the Hero?

Woods has won the Hero five times, the most of any player in the history of the event. Four golfers have won the event twice, but Woods is the only golfer with more titles. His wins came in 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011. He has also finished runner-up five times, including two playoff losses.
